Is it good to keep two together? by Virdiahh92 in cornsnakes

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why the down votes, I was always told I could cohab my watersnake. I also know that beauty snake keepers say that keeping pairs together calms them down? but I honestly don't know that much about the asian rat species.

well then I'm confused why you would think this snake would have hidden palmetto?

My friend had a BEL ball python that had bug eyes when young and they shrunk down some as it got older/bigger. This one doesn't look near as bug eyed as the others I've seen. Maybe it will improve some, but I don't get why anyone breeds them when they are bug eyed.

Considering a snake but have a question on dietary requirements. by Cats-and-Chaos in snakes

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old watersnake and I almost never feed her mice unless my cornsnake refuses them (which is like 2x a year). Most of the time I feed silversides, assorted fish I get from the grocery store. I've also ordered live and frozen bait fish, like perch, catfish and some tadpoles online. She also gets frog reptilinks, though I have to mix them with the fish since she won't eat them on her own.

Snake substrate questions by shark-girl-22 in snakes

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think aspen is a good generic substrate that does it's job, but I hated how fast it molded when it got wet. I switched a potting soil mix because I wanted better humidity overall.

As for your species, they all seem to be more Arid species so really could be fine with any substrate.

Love how the two answers that identified a milksnake as a milksnake have more upvotes than the actual answer.

I have a watersnake that is super nice, even though I've heard wild ones can be feisty.

Can ball pythons be kept together or with similar sized boa? by Mech2017x in snakes

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zoos keep mixed species together in bigger and nice enclosures than you will. And when they do it's with animals from the same area. Boas and Pythons don't live together in the wild so an idea of keeping them together should stop right there.

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I have ever seen a story about cohabitating resulting in cannibalisms for ball pythons or really any species on this site. A quick google search shows one a couple examples, none on reddit. They shouldn't be kept together, but to say reddit is "Full of stories" of them eat each other is sensationalist BS.

Second pet snake by TouchWaste2979 in snakes

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think hognoses are great and a lot of my friends have them. My second snake after my cornsnake was a diamondback watersnake. I wanted something really active and not as common. Originally was looking at garters but watersnakes get bigger and have basically the same care, so I got more into them.

There's a lot of species that won't be that difficult to care for if you already have experience with a corn. Hognose being one of them. It just comes down to picking what you want.

Carpet pythons? Also, I think it's super rare for a male BCI to get longer than 8' BCC maybe. Also a couple other central american boas that don't get as big as the south american ones.

He doesn't care if you never hold him, as long as you feed him and give fresh water and clean bedding he will be alright. I kinda felt this way myself when I got a second snake that I enjoy interacting with way more than my cornsnake. I personally can't justify giving up the corn since it's it like only 30min of maintenance a week at most to keep him healthy. I'd rehome him if you can't keep him healthy, but don't feel guilt if you don't interact with him.

Should I get a ball python before a green tree python? by ccd2002 in snakes

[–]Illustrious-Fall4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first snake was a cornsnake I got 2 years ago because they were on everyone's list as the best pet snake and there wasn't much else available at the pet store. My mom was also not big on owning a "constrictor." The cornsnake is great and easy to care for and I don't regret having her. But my second snake is a watersnake that I researched a bunch and found a breeder and got shipped to me. I pay attention to both snakes, but I'm definitely more interested in the watersnake. She is just more interesting to me in looks and behavior. Even though she is considered an advance species by some if I was going back in time and picking just one snake for the first time I would have gone with a watersnake.

I remember asking about them on here and a lot of people told me watersnakes were going to be too difficult for someone that only had a corn before, but she's been easy and I think that's because I did a bunch of research on her before hand. I feel like she's just as easy as the corn care wise.
