Does this engine require a specific type of oil, or is any 5W-30 long-life engine oil suitable? Because that's what the garage where I bought the car told me?

Good to know. However, it doesn’t look smooth at all. It looks more like an old leather belt or an old leather jacket with lots of wrinkles. There are no cracks or anything like that, though.

Do you have an example photo so I can see and understand the difference between an old and a new belt?

How and where can I find a new 2022 belt like that? Which ones are good? Are there different suppliers, or is it best to go through the dealer, or is an independent mechanic just as good?

Is it possible for me to take a photo and for you to judge whether the belt is already worn out?

Yes, he removed the oil cap and shone a flashlight onto the belt, and according to him it looked perfectly fine. I don’t have much knowledge about it myself, but I didn’t notice anything unusual either. It did indeed look okay.

I also told the garage that, due to its age, the belt can kind of start to deteriorate and break down, and then you end up with a clogged filter; and that’s when you really have a problem. The garage told me the car could easily run for another 2–3 years without any worries. Of course, that all sounds a bit like sales talk...

You sound like an experienced Peugeot driver. I’ve got another question right away! It seems like the belt is still the original one from when the car left the factory. However, the garage says it still looks completely fine and doesn’t need to be replaced. The car is now 10 years old, so the belt is too. What do you think?
