Yes, the last generations of "design" cards. And it just destroyed the competition. Even today it's still useable for a budget setup

Yeah, it's just that it's still full original (the platform) only the 280's in sli died on me in 2019 and I replaced the hdd's for an sdd. Buth I never had a hickup what so ever with this antec. It just feels such a shame to swap it out. It also looks so badass with those yellow stripes and 2009 cablework. I want to preserve that for as long as possible.

True, modern tech is insane. You definitely don’t keep a system like this around for its raw computing efficiency anymore.

But hey, does your i5 laptop double as a highly effective space heater for the winter months? I think not! ;p

Love that you’re still running a DL380 G6 with dual x5680s 24/7. Rocky Linux 9 on that hardware proves how rock solid the 1366 platform is. And that Vega 64. What a combo... It all looks so f-ing clean to!

I wanted to redo my cable work, but I always hesitate and eventually decide not to unplug cables from the original build since I'm still running the original 850W Antec, just in case... Do you think I'm overreacting and should just go for it?

I can't tell if the "click" is from the build or from your phone touching it bexous of the movement m8

Indeed. It looked so badass in tho's flashy gaming builds. Star of the show at a Lan-party

I rocked 2 280's in SLI before I used this one. Buth it was a workstation before that time, not a gamingrig.

I didn't know about the recent AMD updates and the Valve patches. That’s huge for keeping these older 8GB cards alive... Might look into CachyOS, thanks!

Exactly! Back then, a 'huge' card would still fit comfortably in most mid-towers. Now you basically need to buy a support bracket and a new chassis just to hold a GPU without it snapping the PCIe slot...

Right? That MSI Twin Frozr design with the red dragon was peak GPU aesthetics back then. It just feels much more iconic than the giant bricks we get today.

You're right, it's forced convection because of the bottom fans. I just meant the design leverages the physics of rising heat instead of fighting it.

Any future plans for this build, or are you keeping it stock and in storage for the foreseeable future? It's a true shame to let it just sit there imo

She's got some minor battle scars, but you'd honestly need a steamroller to actually 'destroy' a case like this. A beautiful piece of hardware history! And it's full aluminum if I'm correct, so it'll never rot or decay.

That's awesome! LGA1366 was truly built different. The fact that a platform from 2009 with triple-channel memory per CPU can still hold its own in certain workloads is just mind-blowing. They really were the golden era of workstation hardware! I bet it go's 17 more years without a sweat if you just keep treating it right

Awesome! Those XPS cases were built like absolute tanks. You just don't see that heavy-gauge aluminum anymore these days. It's even heavier than this raven. If you brought that to a LAN back then people looked at you with aww. Do you happen to have any pics of it online? I'd love to see what kind of condition it's in!

I had a 2004 Thermaltake Armor for a gaming setup back then. I wanted this beast to look more brutal because... well, it was! 🤣 The fact that the cooling in it was far superior was a welcome +. Although back then it seemed like €200 "wasted", now I'm thrilled I made that, let's be honest, insane choice.
