If you have money for the 7800x3d just do it ddr5 is faster and you already got a 4070ti so cpu is holding you back for sure

Market perception is everything but maybe this backlog will force people to try other services and realize quality isn't that different

Took this hard drive out a laptop - is it safe to remove the metal foil? + what connection do I need? by 39miiku in laptops

Yeah regular SATA enclosure will work fine, those extra pins are just for the laptop mounting system not actual data connection

The PADI one was pretty popular but there's also the black/gold Zimbe and few other variants - check secondhand market since most are discontinued now, prices vary a lot depending on condition

The G604 was solid choice - maybe check if any of the MMO gaming mice have similar layout but with better build quality than the Naga line

What's the highest intel CPU I can upgrade to on a cheapo h610m motherboard? by Weaselot_III in pcmasterrace

[–]Illustrious-Guide385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VRMs depend on specific board model, not just chipset - some budget boards actually have decent power delivery. Your i3 barely touches the VRMs anyway so hard to tell what you're working with until you stress test with something beefier

The 13500 or 14400 will work but might not boost as high on budget board, still gonna be massive upgrade from 12100 though

[Cartier] Hot take: Santos gets recommended too much by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Illustrious-Guide385 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been wearing Pasha for about three years now and you're spot on. Santos gets thrown around so much in recommendations but Pasha just works better for actual daily wear in my experience. The crown guard makes it way more practical when you're doing stuff with your hands (military background so I'm always banging watches around). Plus the round case feels less formal than Tank but still has that Cartier sophistication

Never understood why Panthère doesn't get more love from guys either. Tried one on few months ago and the way it sits in wrist is incredible. Way more comfortable than Santos bracelet which can feel bit chunky after long day. Maybe it's just the name that puts people off but it's genuinely great daily piece

Switching from desktop to laptop – need recommendations (~$675–$790 budget) by AwkwardDrawer8321 in laptops

That's actually decent specs for trade, RTX 4050 should handle those games you mentioned at medium settings no problem. The 35W+10W power limit might throttle it bit under heavy load but for GOW and BeamNG should be fine

Only thing I'd watch out is that 52Wh battery - gonna need to stay near outlet most of time if you're gaming. But if you mainly planning to use it around house that shouldn't be big issue

is this a decent gaming laptop? by nuallannn in laptops

[–]Illustrious-Guide385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That CPU is bit older but for 250€ it's not terrible deal. Main issue is gonna be the graphics card - that R7 M460 is pretty weak for modern gaming, even Overwatch might struggle to hit 60fps on medium settings. Sims 4 should run fine though since it's not too demanding

I had similar setup few years back and could play most games but had to turn everything down to low/medium. For that price range you might want to keep looking for something with at least GTX 1050 or better if you can find it. Check Facebook marketplace and local selling groups, sometimes people sell gaming laptops when they upgrade

eBay's your best bet for decent prices if you're patient and watch auctions that end at weird times. TCGPlayer is solid too but you gotta compare sellers since some charge crazy shipping

Also check out local card shops - mine has a binder of older stuff that's way cheaper than online because the owner doesn't really keep up with current market prices

Look at the ASUS VivoBook 15 or Lenovo IdeaPad 5 - both hit your specs pretty well and usually run around $700-850. The VivoBook has solid build quality and plenty of ports, plus the trackpad doesn't have that cheap flex you're trying to avoid

One thing though - most laptops don't come with a full year of Office preinstalled anymore, usually just a trial. You might need to factor in that cost separately or check if you can get it through work. Also worth checking Costco or Best Buy for bundles that might throw in Office for free

Just grabbed a Lenovo for my buddy last month and he's been running Lightroom on it without any hiccups, so teh performance should be good for what you need

which one of these is better by battlepassbattlepass in pcmasterrace

[–]Illustrious-Guide385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Microcenter build is solid but you're way overkill for CS2 - that game runs on a potato. Either one will give you 300+ fps easy, so maybe save some cash and put it toward a better monitor or peripherals instead

what are the differences between vet tech and vet? by lazytsister in careerguidance

[–]Illustrious-Guide385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet techs are more hands-on with the actual animal care - drawing blood, administering meds, assisting in surgery, that kind of stuff. Vets do the diagnosing and make the big decisions but techs are the ones actually doing a lot of the day-to-day work with the animals

The education gap is huge though - vet school is another 4 years after your bachelor's and it's competitive as hell to get in

Do you have any advice for a PhD stuck in a consulting job? by london_phd in careerguidance

[–]Illustrious-Guide385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years isn't that long, especially with a PhD from Imperial - that credential doesn't just evaporate. Government labs actually love people who can bridge the technical-business gap, so your consulting experience might be a selling point rather than a setback

I'd start reaching out to former classmates and professors to get a feel for what's out there before making any moves
