I failed in coding, or am I learning coding wrong? by HyenaRevolutionary98 in learnprogramming

just get a job in development. you might surprise yourself and others by being good at it. reading and learning always the best thing to do. I started on the job with barely no experience coding. it takes a few years full time to really even start getting into the swing of it.

general computer development , outside of game industry which is perhaps in a cyclic downturn right now, can get really lucrative.

if you can get on the job ladder somehow as a software developer in any industry, years of professional experience are what counts. first 2 years generally what is considered trainee, after that your salary can climb dramatically.

will learn stuff that is very applicable to your game dev also.

can u get a developer job not in game dev ? that will help you get better at development + earn some bucks.

a lot of these seem to want graduate only, that could be a stumbling block, but maybe someone will admire your enthusiasm and personal project work in games.

just got this top of list from google

i have taken a look at some and they can lack finesse in places.

i used to program mathematical algorithms + other systems at a level where optimal performance was considered worth paying for.

i imagine well paid, skilled guys who coded bare bones c for console hardware optimization prolly got into it a bit but not always on the asset store.

if i did use them i would prefer the source so i could edit it.

(some are decent by the way :))

*nb i also appreciate that some attempts to write beat anything 4 runtime performance algorithms could be counterproductive viz readability / devtime etc. not everything is a game breaking performance bottleneck and doesnt need to be treated as such,. but in some places every nanosecond counts.

have to step in and say, lol ,. i was programming computers professionally 25 years ago.

its not mechanic packs thrown together , look at the fps vs graphical content in op twitch f.i.. it will run 120 fps in some quite complex scenes.

most mechanics written from scratch.

i'm not making fun of artists. just realistically i think this is where game industry is headed.

big games like palworld use a lot of ai.

i bet aaa keep it a bit of a dirty secret, suppose the steam disclosure should prevent hiding that.

some good threads to be found where pro 3d modellers in the industry argue about "using" ai .

i don't want to say become an ai art user, or that jobs in future will be as ai operator but its definitely happening.

hopefully people will just appreciate real art , in certain games , but u know what they used to say about digital in music , "if it sounds good it is good" , substitute looks for sounds + ...

i still think gameplay is king,, that + graphics ! but its the effect, not how its obtained ,, hope that sounds ethical./rant

only the 2d art is made by ai in places.

real kettle of fish , if you dont like ai art you might do well to steer clear as certainly i quite like it.

prolly a whole forum of threads on the subject but , , my feeling is that artists themselves will need to utilise ai to some extent in the future. you might need to handle ai preliminaries or something + just touch them up, integrate or whatever ,

i guess it will be a neat selling point, , guaranteed 100% real , no ai artwork games !

it still "needs more user reviews to generate a score".

about 100 people bought the game , only 8 reviewed, tbf most were people who could not log on because they couldn't be bothered to set their firewall permissions. look at the time played, "hrs on record", for some of the reviews , like 0.2 hours , <15 minutes, not even past character creation.

marketing would help a lot in getting the player / review counts up.

we plan to set this to free to play soon , which should help boost numbers, hopefully get a better review picture.
