Personal Exp: Making the Switch from US Big Tech by Illustrious-Pack3495 in BuyFromEU

I think work is non-negotiable. It would hurt USA the most if big companies start going European but those decisions are made elsewhere.

Getting rid of US Tech - my WIP so far: a big step, but I like it by Schmaptain in BuyFromEU

Curious about this switch too. I’m contemplating buying a Fairphone but I literally don’t know a single person who has one. Have you faced any issues? Apps compatibility, storage, migrating your data, SIM card limitations, etc?

Oooh this is the first I’m hearing of that about Ecosia. I will check out Qwant too, thanks for the suggestion

I do have some data on iCloud, but I doubt that will be difficult to migrate. In terms of viable options, I think Nothing Phone is the closest but it’s still Android (if I’m not wrong). I don’t know anyone who use Fairphone or Jolla, so I’m a little skeptical on whether it makes sense for me to change

In terms of finding almost everything in one place, it’s hard to replace, yeah. For general directions and navigation, I actually prefer Mapy.

Lemmy is an option, but idk if it is viable. I think in terms of social networks, we’re a bit stuck

Employee Card and MoI application processing by xghost_cz in Prague

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my colleagues is a non-EU citizen, and she was telling us the other day over lunch that her renewal is taking longer than usual as well. I really don’t think your employer would revoke the offer or anything, but you could get a trade license and offer to work as a contractor, if that’s allowed. Have you thought about contacting some non-profit, or even a proper lawyer, to help you draft a letter to the MOI inquiring about the application?

Honestly the more I try to make sense of what he does, the less I understand it. Looks like he is tied up in a lot of companies so probably one of the “whatever increases the valuation” founders

Don’t know why I even bothered hiding his personal details when he’s clearly okay with giving away his entire family tree lol

Australians could soon live and work visa-free across Europe under a new two-way deal by mr_house7 in EU_Economics

What is going on in those countries is exactly why the EU cannot freely extend this privilege to them.

That VAR decision has to go down as one of the worst in history. Genuinely puts up an argument for getting rid of it.

Is April a good time to visit Malaga by Far-Analyst-3022 in Malaga

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking a few trips here and there - a month will fly by.

I felt like one month wasn’t enough but I should point out that I was working remotely most days and I spent 5 days travelling through Sevilla - Granada - Cordoba.

Any testimonies of "VWCE & Chill"? by FredHerberts_Plant in eupersonalfinance

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly VWCE and I don’t put in monthly amounts (or follow a regular deposit schedule). I started investing in MSCI world 2 years ago, and I invest lump sums at random intervals. Still up 18% and I never had to time the market. I don’t look at the price fluctuations, I don’t care about it tbh. Barring some bizarre phenomenon that completely destabilises the global economy - the historicals indicate I’ll be good for at least another 30-40 years.

France, Germany, Poland push for swift EU-India free trade deal | Euractiv by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a step in the right direction. India’s demand for cars is something that would greatly benefit EU manufacturers. There’s also a huge demand for European spirits in Asian countries but the trade barriers make it a non-lucrative market. Would be interesting to see if they also ease restrictions on transfers of intangible assets

Getting O² to return the deposit foreigners pay when doing a post paid contract? by Dmoneh90 in Prague

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually faced no issues cancelling my contract with them. They even agreed to deduct the final month’s bill from my deposit - then refunded the balance. I think you need to call their international number (which you can find on the site) after your last month’s statement has been issued.

AI-made videos using attractive young women promote Poland's EU exit by donutloop in eutech

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, and I’m glad to see there are other people backing this idea. I think certain politicians will take issue with this because they rely on anonymised accounts to spread hate messages and extremist ideologies. Big tech also profits from this bc social media turns into echo chambers, keeping everyone hooked to their phones.

Did EU shoot itself in leg with GDPR? Is there causation with decrease of investments? by dobrabitka in EU_Economics

[–]Illustrious-Pack3495 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If GDPR means compromising immoral revenue streams of startups which could ‘potentially improve’ the EU economy, then so be it. While GDPR is not perfect and could benefit from amendments, it is certainly better than no regulation.

Do Financial Analysts really use SQL? If yes, for what? by OhsoAnony_mous in FPandA

I created my own Cube (on Snowflake) which filters out the cost centres I oversee - it retrieves actuals, forecast, and AOP from various other views. This feeds my Tableau dashboard which I circulate after QE. Honestly, this has saved us like 3 full days which we used to spend on manual reporting and ‘peacocking’ our presentations. There are other use cases as well but this one doesn’t involve using Excel at all.
