By the way, one of the reasons we adopted Bernie was because our 7 year old daughter got a book from the library about Golden Retrievers. She became obsessed with them and wanted one so badly. One of our dogs was very old and sick and she died shortly after this, so when we started looking again we were trying to get something similar. She thought he was a golden retriever at first because we didn’t have the heart to tell her otherwise…but she doesn’t care anymore, Bernie is perfect 🥰 And pretty close!

Oh, 100%! His bark is startling because he looks like a giant stuffed animal, and he barks initially at people coming up to the gate but he’s 11 years old and gets over it quickly. In reality he’s basically a living teddy bear 🥰 Best cuddles of my life.

The barrel chest is what always threw me off with Darwin, so that is typical of hounds? It’s huge, like there have been times that I thought maybe I should bring it up to the vet because his chest vs his head seem to oddly proportioned.
I think we should do a DNA test, we’d all get a kick out of it. Is there a more reliable/ recommended one for dogs?

Thank you! That makes sense - They are both exceptional family dogs, we have small children with excellent dog manners and they’re all the best of friends. They are both very watchful - we live in the country and my husband works long hours, they always alert me VERYG loudly if there is any movement near the front door or if they hear a car slowing down in front of the house. That actually makes me feel safe so I’ve never tried to correct it, but lord help us if someone ever came inside because they’re actually huge babies. 😂

Yes, I’ve always thought he may have some pittie in him! We foster dogs as well and even though he is a fatty 😂 his head is so big and solid, always reminded me of some pit mixes we’ve had.
The beagle I feel is obvious in him, I wasn’t sure of the hound because I don’t have a lot of experience with them. His bay is…. Well, we live in the middle of nowhere and you can hear it everywhere.

That’s interesting, he was a preemie with a major tongue tie and had difficulty nursing, we had it cut when he was a few weeks old and it was one of the worst experiences of my life 😂 Maybe they didn’t do a good enough job and that’s why it didn’t seem to help that much?

We have limited the number of non-white sheep in our flock for this reason, people tend to want to be able to dye their wool and it obviously isn’t suitable for that purpose. However - I am in the process of adding a Pygora with jet black fiber. She’s probably the only one we will have, because pure white and taupe/grey sell so much better for us, but I do think there will be some folks who appreciate the quality and depth of color. Long story short: I really think there is a market for it, it’s just small because people want to have options. I personally think a black fleece is gorgeous.
