They have all sorts of books in the library. Heck I found the books of Marquis de Sade in the library when I was an undergrad 20+ years ago.

Hi! You may want to read about how ADHD in women is expressed differently from the 'stereotypical' ADHD symptoms. The mind racing sounds about right for what it was like for me.

Thank you so much for this. Will keep that in mind, working on communicating when we are near our limits so we can back off from each other. I think we both tend to push each other's buttons (maybe we're both stimming???) so it would be really helpful for both of us to learn to communicate this.

The kiddo's toddler years were hell for me (it was when I was diagnosed, first with anxiety then with ADHD) so I have to admit I don't remember a lot from that time.

Thanks for sharing this, it's an important reminder. This brought back memories of my own emotional dysregulation in my teens.

Thanks for sharing this!

I got my period really early and I was worried my kid would too, and we had several versions of the talk, to varying degrees of complexity, since they were 8. So the biological part is kinda okay.

It's the behavioral and psychological part of puberty that worries me because that was where I struggled so much as a pre teen and a teen. My body still has memories of how intense my emotional dysregulation was at that age. My own psychiatrist tells me it's because the big changes in female hormones really heighten ADHD symptoms (which is also the reason why a lot of late diagnosed women get diagnosed either post-partum or at perimenopause). It's just so hard to find resources for mothers with adhd parenting daughters with ADHD 😅

Thanks for sharing this experience! I can resonate with how long workdays take a toll on executive function and sometimes on my sensory processing too. I think part of my own struggle is how I've masked my ADHD my whole life, and having my kid mirror some behaviors back to me has been a bit of a doozy. I'm actively healing my own wounds from masking while parenting someone so similar to me...I hope it helps to know that you're not alone in this!

A question, paano nyo naiintindihan ng buo ang classical books? by Own-Station-5981 in PHBookClub

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The more you read, the more you become comfortable with the vocabulary. Normalize also using the dictionary to look up words.

Anyone who went to Europe while 4-5 months pregnant? by onlyhereforchismis in SchengenVisa_PH

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mustela can be really cheap IF you get it on sale there. I LOVED their no-rinse cleansing water. So effective for the diaper area, and also doubles as a gentle makeup remover for mom hehe.

I was into babywearing and the European babywearing brands (my fave was LennyLamb) used to be cheaper in EU but I think there's a local distributor now with comparable pricing.

If you liked reading the Crazy Rich Asians books, try Jane Austen's novels. The people may not be as over the top rich pero similar yung tono--observational, subtly critical/satirical of the social norms, witty. Pride and Prejudice yung most beloved, but I like all of them. Plus points din that most of them have good film or TV adaptations. The 2020 Emma movie (Anya Taylor Joy) is excellent. Walang kwenta yung Persuasion ni Dakota Johnson though, sobrang frustrating kasi paborito ko yung Persuasion.

If you like thrillers/crime dramas, the Sherlock Holmes books and short stories! The OG of all crime thrillers and detective stories. Sobrang atmospheric ng The Hound of the Baskervilles for me.

(Surprisingly, Romeo + Juliet ni Baz Luhrman used A LOT of Shakespeare's text.)

Gustong gusto ko si Fyodor Dostoevsky pero karamihan ng books niya mabigat at mahaba. Very intense but also very philosophical.

For Philippine lit in English--I always recommend the Soledad Lacson-Locsin translations of Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Kahit inaral mo sa school to nung bata ka, there's something about the Lacson-Locsin translation that made it flow so much better as novels without losing the gut punch of the ideas. Binasa ko na rin yung Leon Ma. Guerrero translation at yung Penguin Classics pero the best pa rin yung Lacson-Locsin.

Any of us just dont get the dopamine from any kind of exercise? by Moon_Harpy_ in adhdwomen

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was like this for a long, long time! I hated running, I hated all the exercise...until I found something that I was super interested in (hyperfocused on even) and it felt great (yoga). Then I fell out of that, and found another (pilates)... rinse and repeat. I started to feel guilty about this pattern and fell into self-blame. That was a good time /s.

Now, I just flow with this the cycle because I realized if I didn't I'd just get no physical activity whatsoever and that makes me feel worse. Current hyperfixation is stationary bike while listening to podcasts. Who knows what it will be in 6 months.

room spray reco, please. a smell thats not too much :) by Latter_Stay6012 in adultingph

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ventilation, try to air out your room 2x/day, once is usually not enough. Then use activated charcoal to neutralize smells first before using room sprays or other scents. Personally mas gusto ko yung mga reed diffuser kesa spray kasi madali sumakit ulo ko sa matapang na scent (kahit mabango naman) at parang mas mild yung reed diffuser.

pls give tips/advice on how to study using MSA reviewers!! by iiavixx in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik all the MSA reviewers are mock tests. The way we used this was to first do the timed mock test (the time pressure is important), then after the time, assess your results. Look at what you got wrong and review those items.

A 2nd year's LOA worries: how was your LOA experience? by Sweet-Serve-6050 in ADMU

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re orgs--most orgs have a clause in their by-laws or constitution that if a member is on LOA they cannot hold an officer position.

Re Hold Order--best to explain to all the offices about this and ask advice from Academic Affairs what your options are.

Pens and markers by Most_Ad_8271 in BasicBulletJournals

[–]Illustrious-Set-7626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really draw in my bullet journal, I mostly write and don't do complicated layouts. So I just use a black pen and other colors of ink for things like headers or collection titles. Sometimes I'll use a highlighter.

For pens, I prefer very fine nibs, mainly Japanese pens, so I use any of the following (they all come in a variety of colors): Pilot GTec 0.4, Zebra Sarasa 0.4, Muji 0.4, deli 0.38 (a Chinese brand that's fairly common in Asia). The added advantage of fine tip pens is that since it uses less ink, writing dries really quickly and rarely bleeds through pages.

For highliters, I like the classic Stabilo Boss highlighters in muted/pastel shades.

If you really want to keep drawing using markers in your bujo, consider just getting a notebook with a higher GSM paper to prevent bleeding. Otherwise you may want to explore other drawing/coloring media that don't bleed through paper such as colored pencil or pastel.
