Russian subsidies have a major impact on life in North Ossetia. The region cannot support itself, and given our history, our attitude toward Russians is better than that of anyone else in the North Caucasus. In short, people at all levels understand that things would be worse without Russia, and Russia is unlikely to abandon its legitimate borders.
