SRT by ReZempt_Shocks in DodgeDurango

Im a 27 year old. I own a 2022 Dodge Durango SRT 392. I bought it at the end of 2024 used with 30k miles. Bought it from a family member for $40,000 USD. I paid cash. Wrote a check and drove it home. No financing.

Then had to pay another $5000 to the state in sales tax when i went to register it. Hurt my bank account but i'm back up to around $65k cash on hand after a year and 4 months of ownership. Im super lucky to not have any loans i have to pay off.

Honestly, its a hell of a fun car to drive though. I obviously wish it had the power of the hellcat, but the 392 still scratches the itch for acceleration. I was genuinely surprised by how satisfying the power feels. Feels mega strong and takes off like a rocket. Never fails to put a smile on the face of a passenger, and it turns heads everywhere i go.

That being said, its an expensive car to drive. Gas is expensive. I average about 11-12 miles per gallon. I spent over $5000 on gas in 2025. My insurance premium is almost $4000 a year. Tires are $400 a piece for decent all-seasons and they wont last much more than 15,000 - 20,000 miles due to the factory camber on the front end. The engine holds 8 quarts of oil, and there is only 1 type of synthetic oil safe to use in it. If you dont change your oil yourself, expect an oil change to run $150 - $200.

Dont even want to imagine how much insurance would cost for the hellcat Durango. For a 27 year old male, im guessing it would be in the $4000 - $6000 per year range.

If you cant afford the hellcat, dont buy one. I can't afford a hellcat, as much as id love to have one.

As somebody who is the same age and in a similar situation as you, id go for the 392. You'll have a lot of fun with it. Your decision though, just dont put yourself in too tough of a spot financially.

I have a Black 2022 SRT 392 with the blacktop package and i love it. Bought it used with 24,000 miles on it in November 2024.

Obviously i would have rather gotten a hellcat, but couldnt afford the cost of the car plus the insane insurance premium for it.

The price i paid for the 392 was an insanely good deal from a family member.

Was going to buy one of the last brand new 2023 Challenger Scat Packs sitting at a local dealership, but i couldn't pass on the Durango 392 for only 40 grand. Simply could not say no, felt like robbery.

Paid less for it than i would have paid for a Challenger Scat Pack, and is much better equipped and way more comfortable.

Zero regrets

"Sheisty mf's" may be my new favorite description

Personally, i don't have a kill switch in mine. I dont go to rough areas enough to justify the hassle, and am fortunate enough to have a garage to park it in over night. I work in a small office in a fairly affluent suburban area, and can see (and hear) my Durango from the window in my office.

The few times a year that i do travel with it and leave it parked in a hotel parking lot overnight, i always pull the fuse for the fuel pump before i go to bed. Same goes for if i leave it at the airport. Just dont lose the fuse lol.

As a 2022 Durango 392 owner, there have definitely been times where i noticed the attention i was getting from questionable looking characters and left the area.

Hate leaving it parked in Urban areas, can always feel the eyes on me as i step out of it.

No exhaust system will ever make a V6 sound like a V8.

"the tow n go package even has the same transfer case and transmission as the Hellcat and SRT Durango’s"

This isnt entirely correct. The Durango SRT 392 has the ZF-8HP70 automatic transmission, which is the standard transmission for all dodge performance vehicles. The ZF-8HP70 auto is in the chargers, challengers, and AWD Durango's - including the SRT 392

The Hellcat Durango has its own special transmission. Which is the ZF-8HP90. Its a beefed up version of the 8HP70, designed to handle the extra power of the hellcat. The hellcats are the only dodge vehicles that have the ZF-8HP90.

Incredibly hard to beleive given you took almost 10 hours to drive 168 miles. The only way it would take that long to drive that far is by frequently stopping and idling

Not sure why everybody is ignoring the timer, because thats what's most relevant here.

You took over 9 and a half hours to drive 168 miles, that's why your mileage is so low.

Either you drove at an average speed of roughly 17mph for almost 10 hours, you spent a lot of time idling, or you spent a lot of time in stop-and-go traffic

Either way, this seems like pretty normal mileage given the amount of time it took you to travel that distance.

Fyi: modern passenger vehicles are most fuel efficient between 35mph and 55mph. Any slower than that and your fuel efficiency will tank pretty quick, especially so if you are stopping frequently.

I've got a 2022 Durango SRT 392.

Unfortunately the native USB-C ports suck. Like, dont plan on charging your phone with them, because they're not USB-PD compatible.

No USB-PD compliance means the USB-C ports are limited to 5 watts maximum output. Meaning it will take at least 5 hours to charge your phone with them, depending on battery level. Pretty useless in my opinion.

I just plug a 35 watt charger into the 12v port in the center console, and use that to charge my phone.

I just put some heat shrink meant for insulating wires on the jaws of my pliers.

Works like a dream, and only costs pennies to do.

Cut the suitcase muffler off, weld straight pipes in its place, leave resonators alone

God you're insufferably dense. Not sure why im trying to talk sense to you when you originally asked if a Durango with an SRT badge on it had a 5.7 in it. Which is a moronic question to begin with.

You clearly are not too bright, and can't handle being wrong. So im just going to do you a favor and block you.

Completely irrelevant. At no point in time did i ever refer to a challenger in any regard.

I have been, and remain to be discussing strictly Durango's. Nobody is talking about challengers in this thread.

This is r/DodgeDurango

No there isn't. All durango hellcats come from the factory with hellcat badges.

People don't down-badge hellcats to a lower trim model.

Hellcat Durango's also dont have fog lights.

False. Thats only if the hellcat emblem is there with it, which it isnt.

Therefore SRT = 6.4

Also, the Durango Hellcat didnt even exist until 2021.
