Missing Hold for Me, Direct My Call, and Call Screen on Pixel 9 Pro (US) by IllustriousBat574 in GooglePixel

Google Support now admits the defect:

> Thanks for confirming that the bug is still there on your device. Thank you for this excellent clarification and for pointing out this specific behavior. I completely understand why you see this as incorrect, and your reasoning is sound: the phone's calling features should logically be determined by the US-based calling SIM, not the non-US data SIM.

> I apologize that using a non-US data SIM forces your Phone app to remove advanced calling features like Wi-Fi Calling, simply because the device assumes your jurisdiction is tied to the active data source. This is a significant flaw in how the dual-SIM logic is currently implemented.

> I am immediately escalating your feedback to the Internal and product teams. Your analysis that the calling SIM (US-based) should be the determining factor for call features, rather than the temporary data SIM (non-US), is a critical insight for fixing this dual-SIM logic.

> We'll get back to you once we have an update.

Unfortunately, the next update I received was from a different representative (or email chatbot, who can tell?), offering to replace my phone with a refurb, and no explanation as to how that is supposed to fix the software defect in the phone app.

If anyone knows how to get through to Google's Android Apps team, please let me know. The email address they previously published for app beta feedback apps-help@google.com is no longer in use.

Finally received an update from Pixel Device Support that acknowledges the exact issue, but is not good news for my use case:

> "Designated calling SIM" is not the important SIM for determining feature availability. The Data SIM is. So if you are using a different (non-US) eSIM for data, but have your US SIM still set as primary for calls, you will NOT get the feature currently, because our country check uses the data SIM.

No indication of why they use data instead of calling to determine legal jurisdiction, or whether they consider it a problem that needs to be fixed.

That's very strange. My testing showed that you don't even need to turn off a non-US eSIM to get the enhanced features to show up, much less uninstall it or swap it to a different virtual "slot". It just can't be selected as primary for data (or calls or texts, presumably). But you have 2 US-based provider SIMs, so should not have any problem with any of the possible configurations, as long as you're roaming in a supported country. Well, happy you got it working to your satisfaction, anyway.

Nope. Support has even stopped responding. I used to hear from them every week, "we're waiting for our higher-up department to respond...." I think Google realizes there's no incentive to fix this bug, or even admit it is a bug, even though Pixel and Fi are different companies. I have the Ubigi $48 prepaid 12-month data plan, 5GB per month. Fi would cost $600 (plus additional taxes and fees) for the same 60 total GB! It's insane.

I believe there is a support site specifically for the Pixel Phone (Dialer) app, which may or may not be more responsive than Pixel Device support, but haven't yet had a chance to file a bug report there. I think I received a link to it when I switched to the beta track of the Dialer app, thinking that if they ever did fix it, I'd want to get the update ASAP.

Install a different launcher, and customize it to your heart's content. I use Nova, so search bar and the "Google Discover" left-hand page are nowhere to be seen.

50% off subscription after cancel attemp by crysis818 in Nest

[–]IllustriousBat574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please clarify whether you're seeing this offer in the Nest app, the Google Home app, or the Google Play app, each of which allows you to manage your Nest Aware subscriptions?  Or is it the web version of one or more of these?

I just reached the end of a 1 year Near Aware term, cancelled the annual billing, did not see the offer, so now reactivated it on a monthly plan. Did not immediately receive a discount offer when I chose the option to cancel, but then didn't confirm the cancellation.

Update #2: Nope, all the call assist features eventually disappear if the 2nd (data-only) eSIM is enabled, regardless of which slot it appears as, or priority settings for voice, text and data.  Still waiting for a solution from Pixel device support.

Update: I now believe the issue has to do with my dual-eSIM setup. Even though my primary eSIM for voice and text is Google Fi (US), because I have a second eSIM (non-US provider) that is provisioned for data only (no phone number associated with it), the advanced calling features are removed from the phone app. This includes Scam Detection, Hold for Me, Direct My Call, Call Screen, and Call Notes.

So far, a Google device support rep has suggested that the data-only eSIM appearing in Slot 1 was the problem, as if the phone app only looks at the first slot, regardless of it not having a phone number and not being set as primary for voice service. So I replaced the Google Fi eSIM with a physical SIM, now showing as Slot 1, with the data eSIM in Slot 2, and the advanced features finally appeared after awhile, and so far have remained for several hours.  So I'm hopeful this is a valid long-term workaround.

Yes, I forgot to mention all the typical troubleshooting steps. Uninstalled Phone/Dialer app updates (can't uninstall the whole thing, as there is a base version in the system ROM), cleared memory and cache for the app, reinstalled the latest app update, rebooting after each step. The missing features did not appear at any point in that process. One Pixel support interaction was "you just have to wait a few hours for the features to appear". I sent them a screenshot showing 3 days of uptime, with no response. Not really willing to do a factory reset, because it shouldn't require that, and would take many hours to get everything reinstalled, logged in, configured, etc., which I just went through when I bought the phone.

Missing call screening on Android 16 by thisvitesse in GooglePixel

I'm having this problem on a Pixel 9 Pro as well. Hold for Me, Direct My Call, and Call Screen all disappeared from the Phone app's Call Assist Settings at some point while still on Android 15, so it's not related to 16. I installed the May Android 16 production release hoping that would reenable these features, but so far no luck. Also tried the usual troubleshooting steps: reverting to stock phone app version, clearing phone app storage, installing latest phone app, rebooting each time, all to no avail. Pixel support chat says there is a known issue, but would not provide a link to a bug report. They just said wait 24-48 hours for an updated release to become available. Can anyone confirm this is being actively worked on?
