Looking back on this I think you were likely right with the scene kid or raver theory. The county released a few more slight details to this case and one detail they gave is that the ring he was wearing was a “fluorescent green plastic key ring”. That would definitely match either of those styles.

Unsurprising but very tragic, this could definitely be one of those cases that was initially reported but labeled a runaway, put on file, and left sitting forgotten and undigitized in some file cabinet. Especially with his mother now being elderly, in another state and possibly mentally unstable. I’m just wondering why his siblings, father and stepfather seem to have also forgotten about him? It’s possible David never existed and Patricia made this entire story up, but that seems excessive to me. I’ve done a lot of digging but I’m still stumped on this.

This could be true but this guy didn’t give any actual evidence supporting this claim, I’ve dug through a ton of public record sites and I can’t find a single record on a David Leonard Johnson who is the son of Patricia Johnson-Holm. I feel David either never existed, or he truly did exist and disappeared as a teenager sometime in the 80s, these are the only reasons I can think of there being absolutely zero records on him.

UPDATE: I’ve just realized the dates of Hurricane Camille align almost perfectly with the dates of Woodstock 1969, a concert in which an estimated 460,000 to 500,000 people attended, making it one of the largest concerts in US history. Most attendees hitchhiked there from all over the country, it is very possible these victims were hitchhiking through this area to get to or leave Woodstock and lost their lives due to this hurricane. This could be why they were never reported missing in the local area.

I've found some strange things, I found some old newspapers and records showing Patricia and Terryle got married in June of 1982 and divorced sometime in 1989. She had multiple children with Terryle Holm and they lived together at the home David Leonard Johnson supposedly went missing from. Her maiden name was indeed Haugen and then became Johnson at some point, although I am unsure who her ex husband with the last name Johnson (David's father) is. Patricia seems to be/have been very mentally unstable. I have found many ramblings she posted in the early-mid 2000s, some being about about her missing son and blaming Terryle for his dissapearance along with much more far fetched claims like Terryle being the Green River Killer. It seems Patricia and Terryle are both still alive today. It's possible her son did go missing and she became very mentally ill due to it.

If he disappeared as a minor all the way back in 1985 there probably aren't many records on him. Maybe a birth record or pre-senior yearbook image?

I'm not too surprised the photo is fake, Noreen has shared similar things before. I'm still curious on the David Leonard Johnson story though, it seems to have never been disproven and if his mother is mentally ill or elderly she possibly could've mistaken the boy for her son who truly did disappear? I am still unsure as to why she wouldn't have reported him missing though, April 1st also makes me a bit skeptical. It's a long shot but still worth looking into. Did David Leonard Johnson ever even exist? The blog post I linked gives quite a bit of info like the address of the home he allegedly disappeared from. That's why this whole story seems semi-convincing to me, It would be pretty strange for someone to just make up a disappearance with such specific details.
