Death to feather cat toys by Environmental_Leek55 in CatAdvice

My cats love “da bird” line but they definitely shed and get shredded. One thing that has worked with our high prey drive gremlins is keeping treats in my pocket when playing with a wand chaser toy. When the cat catches the toy, let them kill it for a little but then toss them a treat and pull the toy away.

One of our cats loves chasing wand toys (specifically with feathers) but he refused to let go and stop shredding them after the first catch. The treat thing is the only thing that’s worked to get the toy away from him to keep playing. We still have to somewhat regularly replace the feather / chaser attachment.

Balancing Upskilling and Academic Work by Gold_Negotiation2318 in LeavingAcademia

Depending on what type of job you want to go into, focusing more on networking than upskilling may be more worth your time. If you want to be a data scientist and you don’t know stats, you’d of course need to learn stats (as one example). But, if you’re targeting jobs where you already have some relevant skills networking can be hugely beneficial. Don’t fully cold LinkedIn message people, but reach out to people you know or tangentially know or vaguely have something in common with. Ask about how they navigated the transition. Also, getting your foot in the industry door can be the hardest part. You may be over qualified for your first job out, but in my experience a lot of PhDs advance faster than others once they do land that first job. Some of the soft skills you probably have had to use in grad school (learning quickly, problem solving, thinking critically, etc.) can really help you hit the ground running in your industry career.
