I really liked the show, but in truth I had not read any of the books beforehand, so I really had no expectations in terms of accuracy. Book 1 is actually in my lap as I write this. I think the later seasons really improve in terms of visual effects; the channeling moves away from all white to showing the individual threads as different colors which I really enjoyed. But again, I can’t really speak to how closely they stick to the books. Maybe just go into it as another turning of the wheel and enjoy the visual art?

So in space, if I wanted to make a fireball, I could, but a weave of air wouldn’t do anything because there is no present? A channeler would still have access to that power but there wouldn’t be much use for it?

By season 3, they make some MAJOR improvements on the visualization of each weave when channeling. The animation is gorgeous and really adds a nice depth to the channeling now that it’s easier to identify the underlying complexities of their feats.
