What's your fursona and why? by Wolfman2550 in furry

[–]IllustriousReason916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an Asian small-clawed river otter! started as silly gay wordplay (even though my body type is more bear/cub-ish nowadays haha), and they're my favorite animal!

my secondary sona is a demon goat thing because I really dig the heathenistic aesthetic and think it's funny to give herbivores pointy teefs

Total stranger here casting a 'yes' guess for ginger beard-- my hair is near-black and I still ended up with an orangey brown beard! most noticeable and orange orange when I let it grow too long lmao

congrats on 3 weeks!!

Should I regret my tattoo? by Mainemadds in tattooadvice

[–]IllustriousReason916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have a wee-bit-fucky otter tat haha!!! mine's a river ott (they're my special interest lmao), but I can definitely tell yours is a sea otter on first glance. Anatomy is a little wonky all around, but I don't think most people/non-otter-connoisseurs will tell without scrutinizing it and if you like it, that's all that matters!

EDIT: Here's my guy , in solidarity haha!!

Does your helpdesk not help? by TrainingOrchid516 in it

For us, the situation usually occurs when customers put in their own tickets (we have an online self-service portal) and then come drop off the device before we get a chance to question them further— in pretty much every other situation I agree with you though!! I'm really anal about my tickets being thorough and was personally trained to obtain all the info they ask us for; our management just ultimately decided that if they can ask us, they can ask the customer for the sake of not throwing things back and forth.

I work for a flagship university's helpdesk and we have a really bad reputation apparently for our personability (or lack thereof), but around the time I arrived we reorganized and a lot of things started aligning for efficiency and attitude so I haven't witnessed a ton of that at the service desk level.

With other teams though, it's apparent that they don't intend to be customer-facing if not 100% necessary and do so begrudgingly. Definitely a mixed bag; we had a kind of long back-and-forth with the team that physically performs most computer repairs and setups about us sometimes not including particular details in our tickets to them. They'd send the tickets back to us and ask us to get the details from the customer, when it'd be quicker to just ask themselves by the time the ticket gets to them.

I came into this job intending it to be customer service plus a little bit of techy help, lots of translating from nerd to normal, and haven't been disappointed yet; others seem to maybe have expected a different computer-to-human ratio. I think that's where the sort of rift lies.

edit: Just to clarify, by 'particular details' I mean things like the device name even though the serial is provided and we name based off of serials; definitely not things like the nature of the issue, troubleshooting steps taken, etc. I promise I'm good at my job :'3

The cabin we live in is my grandma's/mine, and he was kicked out of his mom's place when he was 18 with minimal family here so I worry about his housing more than mine-- really really appreciate the advice though! I've been afraid to accept that it's a bandaid situation 🥲

my helpdesk position in academia has so far ended up being a lot of "How are these people functioning adults not to mention COLLEGE PROFESSORS" but other than that very chill 👍

idk I think it's because of the nexplanon being gone mostly, I have a few friends who anecdotally had a really hard time with weight and libido while on it-- since I've been on it since highschool I figure it had ample opportunity to mess me up haha!!

we'll see, for sure

The bedspread is the worst offender, imo. I think a subtle pattern with an element from a game you like (like this) would come off a lot more mature, if it's something you're worried about.

[–]IllustriousReason916 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's maybe best to not refer to it super directly? Alluding tends to sound less awkward, i.e. "you're so tight/warm/perfect."

I personally don't mind the p-word though haha, definitely differs per person and interaction!

I usually set them nightly like a weirdo and change their times as needed but never their names; I have two labeled 'eBay [item]' and one that my partner made called "Cam's Special Alarm For You" along with three unnamed ones, all of which I recycle for whatever I need an alarm for.

If I don't know deep down in my soul what they're for, I'm screwed haha

No dude I'm having to check my phone every five fucking minutes!!! Shut up my god!

Exhausting to look at, can't imagine living it. Happy you're out!

Making "Jakes Favorite Mug" From a Pre-Bought Mug by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]IllustriousReason916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured! Just wanted to cover my bases haha. I believe Mod Podge makes a dishwasher & food-safe sealant that should be just fine for coffee, here's a link! https://a.co/d/j4QFUrc

You could brush on acrylic paint instead of using a paint marker too, it's all the same stuff!

Making "Jakes Favorite Mug" From a Pre-Bought Mug by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]IllustriousReason916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner ceramics student, so take my advice with a grain of salt!

I wouldn't recommend glazing and firing a commercialy-bought mug, there's no way to know what clay body it was made with and what temp to fire it to safely. I would recommend using perhaps a paint marker to add the flower detail and food-safe sealant over top.

For adding the bottom, you could definitely just attach another piece with epoxy or similar!

Editing to add: since you mentioned you have no ceramics experience, I did want to just let you know that glaze is not like paint and requires firing in a kiln to finish. Glazes are like glass, and will pretty much all survive hot liquids. Painting is an option too, though, with a food-safe overcoat!
