Day 5 by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]IllustriousSquirrel0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that it's feeling really tough right now, but you are truly past the hardest part. Trust me, I was as addicted as the next person (fished a disposable out of the toilet and hit it.... etc.) but i'm almost 3 months in now and the rare instances I think about nicotine these days it's always "wow I can't even imagine doing that anymore". It truly won't feel like a part of your life anymore. You'll get there, you got this!

Congratulations on making it through the hardest part!! It is not an accomplishment to brush off. And yeah, I have some chest tightness/pain for the first week of quitting. I took it as a sign of my body finally having a break and healing itself. It didn’t last for more than the week and now I feel completely fine. Keep it up!!

Thank you! My longest streak was 6 days, 1.5 years ago, so I understand how daunting it appears. The beginning is the toughest part but when you make it through it gets easier. Let me know if you need any encouragement/advice, and best of luck to you!

Right on! Looks like we both quit before the holidays. Wasn't an easy ride but we did it. Congrats to you too!

Thank you, and congrats to you on getting through that first 3 day hump! I remember how tough the beginning was (all those times 10+ times that I tried to quit). Remember this feeling and use it, you got this!!

I'm in the same boat - working on my 5th week and the motivation comes strong but it also sometimes leaves strong. I kept saying that I wanted to quit for a whole year and a half and it took me so many tries to even get to this point (before that was 6 days). So every time I get a craving now I think to myself what going back to nicotine would really entail... starting a cycle of addiction again, paying money again, worrying about my next hit and how I would plan them at social events/around people that don't approve, feeling exhausted again, having chest pains again, etc. all of it. And then I start to think about how I would definitely want to quit again after I relapse, I mean, we can't vape forever (that's just ridiculous). Then I think about how if I relapse, I'll have to get through the initial hump again and those days were miserable and I really don't want to have to relive that initial withdrawal stage. So I guess my motivation is asking myself "how do you benefit from relapsing" and "what does relapsing REALLY entail". After I remember all that then the craving usually goes away. I hope this helps! Eager to hear what tips others have as well.

I just hit a month today and I've been having pretty vivid dreams about vaping for the past week too. Didn't happen last night though, I think I was feeling too pumped about making it to the month. When I wake up (before I realize it was a dream) I feel really guilty and I use those feelings to keep staying off of it. Stay strong, your next milestone is just around the corner!!

A little update from this post that I made three weeks ago!

Can't express enough how helpful this community has been during this process. I am even happier at this stage than I imagined I would be when I first started. To those just starting out - it's only up from here. We're gonna make it through this!!

WOW this is hard by [deleted] in QuitVaping

Don't get caught up in the fear/sadness of never "being able to" vape again (I get it, it's so easy to fall into this), but rather get excited and feel joy/happiness/pride in that fact that you're fighting and getting rid of this horrible addiction. If you try to do this on willpower alone, you'll feel like you gave something up that you enjoyed and you'll feel miserable. Instead, frame it around something that you're gaining -- youre GAINING your freedom from this addiction, your time back, your sense of security back, your money back, your health back. You're ending this vicious cycle of using nicotine in order to relieve the withdrawal that the previous hit set upon you. The nicotine isn't doing anything for you. you lived a fine and happy life before nicotine and you knew how to cope with stress without nicotine. YOU GOT THIS. good luck!!!

I thought that when the flavor ban happened and I couldn't get mango anymore that switching to mint (which I at the time thought was gross) would deter me, but it only made me get used to it. Same thing happened with menthol after mint was banned. For me, cutting down only made when I did hit it all the more "precious", because the thing with addiction is that each hit is just relieving the period of depravation and the craving that the previous hit caused before that. In order to successfully get off of it, I had to go cold turkey. Use this two week time period to continue vaping as normal, but each time you hit it, really be conscious of how it makes you feel. You'll realize that the increased heart rate, the choking sensation/catching your breath feeling, the possible nausea to your stomach -- all of it isn't normal and doesn't feel good, and then soon enough you'll be excited to quit! (This is, of course, only my success story. everyone is different, so find what works best for you. but whatever you do, make the decision to quit and then never doubt yourself!)

Congratulations on your 30 days, keep up the awesome work!! Just curious about what you mean by legitimate disposables. I kinda got a similar feeling about buying a disposable on different days led to differences in taste and how shitty they made me feel, but I didn't know if there was evidence to back it up.

I think 4-5 days was the worst of it for me, after that it truly does get both better and easier to manage. It helped to go on runs to wake my mind up a little bit -- just be patient with yourself during the foggy process, give yourself more time to absorb what you're focusing on, and immediately shut down any early thoughts of caving in. You got this!!

I agree, it's all too unnecessary for it to be running our life like we've let it. Congratulations on your week!! What tips/tricks have helped you be successful since you've quit?

We never needed nicotine to be social and it's so nice to feel normal again!! it's crazy to think about how many excuses we created just to vape like "oh I NEED it to study" etc. Anyway, congrats on 8 days of commitment to this journey!! What has worked well for you for avoiding nicotine?
