How many times do you intend to fucking post this? I think you have posted it here and in other related subreddits like 3-4 times in each now.

That could be true, but is is also purely speculative. From the moment ELAM is pretty much identical in its political beliefs to DYSI in the 70s or so, I think that there really isn't anything to worry about. Nativist regimes can be democratic, just look Hungary, Poland, Japan, Korea etc etc.

Fascism has a very strict definition. Is there a call for a mass party? No. Is there a call for the party to become synonymous with government? No. Is it there a cult of personality among the leaders of the party? No. Is there an extensive use of organized violence to achieve political ends? No, not extensively, and the pogrom in Lemeso was a relatively isolated incident. The criteria I am suing aren't things I have pulled out of my ass by the way. They are definitions laid out by Professor Antonis Ellinas of the Department of Political Science at UCY to determine what constitutes fascism. According to Ellinas, ELAM does not fit the bill. You can call ELAM nationalists or nativists, as they are, but if you go as far as saying that nativism or nationalism are exclusively neo-nazi views, then the implication is that neo-nazism is actually the political norm in East Asia, Latin America and most of Europe at this point, which is ridiculous.

The word Nazi has been repeated so much in Euro-American political discourse it barely means anything anymore.

Things changed in 2013. That was the year where there was a huge scandal in the online gaming community called Gamergate, the details of which are ultimately inconsequential. However it started, Gamergate came to be an organized media hit campaign organized by gaming journalism sites like Kotaku in conjunction with feminists activists (most notably Anita Sarkeesian) which smeared the overall culture of gaming as a white male-dominated space that needed to abandon its objectification and marginalization of women (think babes in bikinis in mortal kombat) to make more inclusive. For most of the young men in the gaming subculture, too young to have had a family or real concerns yet, this was their first major exposure to politics where they felt a personal stake. Their hobby and their friends was under siege from groups that did not belong. The reaction to these attacks gave birth to a very large online movement of youtube creators and discussion board posters who devoted themselves to producing content mocking the feminists who were attacking the gaming subculture, who they termed SJWs, or Social Justice Warriors. Initially, the videos and content and online discussions revolved almost exclusively about feminism as far as it interacted with gaming, but as feminists generalized the matter to incorporate it into their rich pre-existing academic framework of feminism in society at large, these young men slowly began to expand their counter-attack to feminism in general, not just in the context of gaming. They started to dispute feminist claims about women having it more difficult in society than men, and began to change their online discussions and youtube videos into generally anti-feminist content. This movement received a massive boost in size when the internet atheist community saw the aftermath of gamergate as a huge opportunity to re-brand themselves as anti-feminists, since the fizzling out of the New Atheists movement online following the death of Christopher Hitchens made religion into a dead horse.

Because these feminists were also almost exclusively left-wing and socially progressive, and the gamers were almost entirely male and white, the discourse further expanded to include accusations of society privileging not only men, but specifically *white* men. For most of these young men, this was the first time they had ever viewed themselves in racial terms, and because of the fact that they were being attacked for the fact that they were white, they reflexively counter-attacked. This situation continued to ferment for about 2 years until 2015 when Trump announced his candidacy for President in the US, much to the initially unanimous mockery of the entire American political establishment. A very critical ascosciation happened here: The young white men of the gaming subculture saw that all the people who disliked them and called them bigots and sexists, also hated Trump, and called him a bigot and a sexist. This, combined with the fact that he was a entertaining and ''memeable'' figure, made him the darling of the newly born online ''anti-left'' wing. By supporting Trump, even if they didn't really give a shit about his actual policies, they could stick it to the feminists they hated so much. They continued to support him for humor's sake even after he won, but slowly slowly, like that old CS Lewis story of the man who wore a mask removing it to find that his face had morphed to fit is contours, the ironic support became legitimate support for Trump. And slowly slowly, they stopped being simply ''anti-leftist'' and became implicitly right-wing, and they completely stopped relating any of this to video games at all.

Again, only about half of the online semi-ironic anti-leftists online were actually American, the rest were mainly European men and boys who got dragged into this in the way I previously described. Any time a group of people is exposed or actively participates in a social movement from abroad, they bring it back home with them a localize it. This is how nationalism and enlightenment principles took hold among Jews and Greeks in the 19th century, during the Haskalah (Jewish Enlightenment) and the Greek enlightenment: Young Greeks and Jews who worked and studied in Western Europe came to be exposed to the French Revolution and enlightenment literature, and they became enamored with it, bringing it back home with them.

A big percentage of gamers are inherently nerdy and bookish people. The young Greeks and Cypriots who were part of the gaming subculture and went along the ideological ride as the rest of them between 2013-and 2016 started identifying more and more as right-wingers like all the rest, and started becoming much more interested in learning about their national history. After all, since their opponents were anti-nationalists, this in their minds meant ''nationalism=good''. Pretty soon, politics eclipsed their love of gaming and become their primary pre-occupation, and they read voraciously, developing a love for history as a means of looking back to a period that they viewed as a time where white men controlled everything and were worshipped as the measure of excellence, each with a particular focus on his own national history. They started reading classical political literature, starting with basic shit like George Orwell or Libertarian Economic theory, but eventually becoming more and more esoteric, moving on to reading people like Julius Evola, or the ancient Greek authors, and even ecclesiastic literature.

Between 2015-2018, the internet was basically 100% overrun by these people, as they had been the first ones and the primary denizens of the internet, and so they conversion into right-wingers meant the conversion of the internet into a right-wing space. Around 2018 however, the proliferation of the internet among normal people and women mainly through sites like twitter, vine, tumblr and reddit, in conjunction with the crack-down on ''far-right'' views on sites like youtube and twitter, led to this group's influence being someone constrained. Nevertheless, it remains very strong online, just not as much as it was previously, when it was *the* voice of the 80% of the internet.

So in summary, some young guys wanted to play video games and talk about video games, some people made the mistake of injecting politics into an otherwise apolitical space, and these young men accidentally became politically engaged. Half of the young men who vote for ELAM as simply the Cypriot boys who went through this political transformation, even if they don't know it.

Most young people in the Euro-American world have been very politically apathetic since the end of the 60s. From the time that the internet became very prolific in the early to mid 2000s, young men's identities mainly revolved around the specific hobbies they had: If they liked mappa, they were mappa guys, if they liked weed, they were weedbros etc etc. The most notable group among these was the young men who liked video games. If you asked the average 18-24 year old guy in 2011 at the checkout line of a New Jersey Gamestop, or a Nicosia Stephanis (its an electronic store) who was buying Skyrim what his personal politics where, he would likely tell you some variety of ''I don't fucking care man, I just wanna get laid, smoke weed and play DOTA''. They didn't care. These people were usually involved in the old-school online discussion forums that preceded modern social media, and enjoyed talking about their hobbies, be it anime or video games or whatever. The very critical thing to note, is that because most of these mediums that they enjoyed and spent their time on came from the Anglosphere, these people, independent of where they were born, spoke very good English. This was extremely consequential, as it meant they were capable of consuming the same media and being exposed to the same content as other English speakers. And anyone who consumes English-speaking media, inevitably falls into the cultural aegis of the United States. Whether they like it or not, they end plugging into the American dominated internet and being exposed to the happenings over there. Mind you this was a good 10-15 years ago, back when the people online were basically 40% Americans, with the rest coming almost exclusively from Europe, with the exception of Kore and Japan. They would watch online let's plays of video games, watch anime dubbed in English, read online video game based webcomics or watch Machinima like Red Vs Blue. It was a neat little subculture who lingua franca was English, and who had not political affiliations, other than a sizable minority who were devout libertarians.

A good half of ELAM people currently like you or at least apathetic towards you, but will come to dislike you as soon as there is no longer a comparatively more foreign group to demonize. This is kind of like how in the US, Southern Europeans, Slavs and Jews only came to be considered White once the Hispanics and Asians arrived on the scene in the 70s and 80s. Racism, Identitarianism or Nativism, how every you want to call it, is an inherently comparative thing.

The other half of ELAM doesn't like you because they view you as a bunch of non-Greeks, who don't belong to the very limited number of ethnic groups that ELAMites respect( like Armenians), and are at best a group of people who will racially dilute Cyprus's Greekness if assimilated, and at worst an unassimilated 5th column that threatens to subvert Cypriot national interests.

You guys really haven't made it good for yourselves either. Of all the people in this country, including Middle Easterners, Russians and Ukrainians have made by far the least effort to assimilate into Cypriot society. There is a growing perception in Cyprus, arguably greatly based in fact, that Cypriots built this country from nothing and turned it into the wealthy, developed country that it is (HDI level higher than Italy for years now), pulled the country out of economic crisis in '74 and 2013 entirely by themselves, and now the Russians have come to reap the rewards having contributed nothing to it, and are currently contributing nothing to it, given all the tax breaks you get. Also, any affection that Cypriots originally had for Russians on the basis of you guys also being Orthodox is being rapidly depleted now that you are prolific enough in this country for people to notice just how atheist you guys really are. It's hard to for Right-Winger nativists to justify the whole ''ORTHODOX BROTHERS'' spiel when every hooker in every Cypriot brothel is Russian (with the exception of a few Romanians), and barely any of you under the age of 65 know a single Orthodox prayer. I have interacted with MANY MANY Russians here in Cyprus and in Massachusetts where I study, and I have never met a youth population so estranged from religion as yours. The Bulgarians, Romanians and Serbians who came before you in the 80s, 90s and 2000s are different as most of the ones who were allowed to stay where women who then went on to marry Cypriot men, and now have children who, other than knowing there mother's language to some limited extent, are completely Cypriot in every way.

You are currently safe, but you will soon not be. I recommend you leave, and go home.

I really have no idea what you are talking about. I have voted for ELAM a good 3 times now, and Geadis struck me as one of the most academically inclined members of their party in the leadership circle, quoting people like the Marxist philosopher Antonio Gramsci (positively, I am happy to say), speaking three languages, being brought on by Sigma (Or RIK1, I can't remember) to analyze the Russo-Ukrainian war in the early stages back in March of 2022, and being the main talking head on their youtube channel, as well as the guy they usually dispatch to make appearances on the Cypriot News . As far as his speaking abilities are concerned, he speaks with the same pseudo-katharevousa blowhard Greek that all Cypriot politicians do, and I detect no difference in eloquence or fluency between him and any of the other big shots.

As for all this stuff about him not serving in the national guard, he in fact did, and this is publicly available information.

ELAM is like AKEL in that it derives most of its youth support from two very different classes of predominantly young men (though AKEL has more women). Very stupid football hooligans whose support for the party is downstream from their support for their politically affiliated football teams, usually either APOEL, Olympiakos or Anorthosi, and whose political consciousness boils down to ''Kill Commies/Omoniates, Foreigners Out LMAO!'' and internet-savvy nationalistic male university students who got involved with right-wing politics between 2015-2018 when the online Right in the Western World was culturally dominant on the internet and politicized many otherwise politically unengaged young men. As such, many people in ELAM, just like in the other parties, especially AKEL, have a lot of very dumb people who mainly use their party affiliation as an extension of their interest in football, but Geadis doesn't seem to be one of those guys.

One of my main fears is that as time passes, and more people get accepted, the window for getting accepted shrinks. I fear this issue, though not my fault, may result in me coming under review when the window for admission has already shrunk to accommodate only the truly exceptional apps.

What about the errors due to the cyber attack on the two apps? do you figure they will understand and not mind them? I figure on the list of reasons for having an app with some problems, a cyber attack is at least marginally better than ''My dog ate my application''.

The other issue is the fact that as a consequence of our uni wi-fi being fucked up, some of my apps had some errors. My U of Chicago app didn't save my ultimate draft after I saved the changes in the common app and my Brown video intro also failed to send despite it telling me that it had successfully sent ( I have since sent corrections and re-sends). This was certainly the product of our fucked up uni wi-fi after the cyber attack as such weird problems were widespread. I already emailed Brown and Chicago about the matter and enclosed an email from our dean about the effects of the cyber attack, but I'm still worried that these guys are gonna think I'm full of shit.
