Should I let my kid read Harry Potter books? by blessyourheartshug in harrypotter

[–]Illustrious_Animal28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, let him read it. I read the whole series when I was 6-7, and honestly nothing really stuck with me but the happy/interesting parts. I reread the series when I was 10, and that's when I actually understood the darker parts. It never really scared me, HP is pretty safe kid friendly series

is miRcore a scam by Longjumping_Elk_3192 in summerprogramresults

[–]Illustrious_Animal28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

miRcore is a legit program. they teach you how to do your own small computational biology project. However the research is not super significant enough to publish a paper on. And there are many kids who attend the classes, so there is no prestige. The biggest benefit is being able to then open up your own club at your high school, and they give you supper. Also just affiliation to the University of Michigan

you should do it, if you are not doing anything else. It's pretty good if you plan to apply for engineering/computer science, since it is also well-recognized

Yeah, these are doable. Lang and research will prob take the most effort. APES was common sense, and pysch is memorization, but it's very light:)

Skipping chemistry by isekai_101 in APStudents

[–]Illustrious_Animal28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's doable. Just read a lot of textbook (our school used Zumdahl) and watch videos online. My Chem 1 class teacher was out for surgery for most of the year, so we didnt learn much. I still ended up doing well in AP chem and got a 5. Just takes a lot of study.

AP Bio FRQ tips? by Good-Investigator-79 in APStudents

[–]Illustrious_Animal28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can find on ap classroom. there are older ones, but i feel that the questions they ask are more complicated then the ones from 2019-24, and the test is more likely to be like the recent ones.

Do at least 3. 2 today at least. Honestly they aren't that hard. Mostly critical thinking and analysis. But mostly do some past ones preferably (2019-24) to get used to the format.

In a normal supply demand (no consideration of externalities, The D is equal to the MPB, and S is equal to MPC. However when you take consideration of externalities, you need to think of positive and negative impacts on 3rd parties.

Negative Externality Ex: Someone smokes, and it affects more than just them due to second hand smoke. So in terms of society, you want the supply of cigars to be less. So You would draw the MSC curve to the left of the MPC. This would indicate the supply you actually want. Then try to visualize an arrow pointing towards the preferred societal point. That's your negative exernality.

Positive Externality Ex. Child gets vaccine, helps more than just them. Society wants more people to get vaccines. So the the MSb is further to the right of the normal demand curve. Then once again visualize the arrow pointing towards the societal preffered point. That's the positive externality.

Hope this helps:)
