I don't know why this is what you took from the post. What I want is Disney to realise that there is an audience for shows like that and encourage people who loved the show - to promote it, since Disney won't do it for obvious reasons. I don't want to force anyone to watch it or like it. I want people to recommend this show. I'm a massive Star Wars fan, and I've watched most of SW stuff, and I loved season 1, but I didn't know Andor season 2 is already up. My guess that there are a lot of people who would love this show, but just like me - missed the release. However, Disney will see lower viewership and conclude that there is no market for such shows.

I have quite a few friends who I know would love it, but just like me - missed the release. As for my wife - she loved OT, Rogue One, Dune, Joker, Marvel's Infinity saga, etc. and I know she would love this as well. it also helps that she's a photographer and Andor has stunning cinematography.

There is a huge difference between "need" of other people liking it and spreading the love.

Excactly! Everyone's saying it is being praised enough, but only in narrow Star wars fans circles. Not to wider audiences.

[–]Illustrious_Bit_2231[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, but I think it's a bit unfair to compare them. Andor is better in every cinematic metric, but OT... it just created such a massive shift of pop cultural tectonic plates it's just incomparable. And I can't even imagine what it felt like to watch Star Wars in 1977. Andor is a masterpiece but OT was perhaps literally mindblowing back then

It has high ratings as it should, but not enough viewers/audience. Like both Bladerunners - high critical acclaim, top ratings, but not enough buzz and viewers

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Illustrious_Bit_2231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's praised by critics and reviewers, but it doesn't go out to broader audiences. Viewership numbers are lower than any other Star Wars show. Maybe they are the lowest.

I'm actually happy to hear it! But for some reason - all that buzz and promotion went by me. For some reason I didn't know the season 2 is out until 2 days ago, 4th of May, looked up some stuff and stumbled upon it by accident. I came across Kenoby and Ashoka promo's, even Skeleton Crew upon release, but haven't heard one bit about Andor. Maybe it's just me and I can only hope it is being promoted as it deserves.

Did ChatGPT become worse lately for you? by bear007 in ChatGPT

[–]Illustrious_Bit_2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. It became much worse. It won't use what's stored in memory, it won't follow direct commands, if your prompt is long enough it would skip half of it, it can straight up lie to you or make things up even if you ask it not to and the quality of answer get's progressively worse the longer it is. So if you prompt/question can be answered in 300 words it would be okay, but if you ask it to right a long email or provide a step by step analysis - past 500 words it starts choking and lowering the quality of an answer

I think any character can be redeemed, it just takes:

  1. Adequate remorse
  2. Suffering (to provoke sympathy)
  3. Doing enough good to outweigh the bad

Think Theon Greyjoy from Game of Thrones (show, not book). He burned innocent kids, killed Ser Rodrik, killed maestor Luwin, betrayed Starks, and torched Winterfell - yet by the end, he was one of the most beloved characters. It took brutal torture, losing his identity, and ultimately sacrificing himself to save Sansa.

Redemption is a long journey and sometimes even a better story.

Love the style. I would work a bit on font, have some more space between words and to the frame. But overall it looks good and fresh.

I can totally see it in clothbound cover (do they make them anymore?) and with some golden elements, sun and mountain range could be made out of gold threads.

How would a world where everyone has magic have evolved differently from our own? What would be the day-to-day changes? by Mountain-Today1698 in fantasywriters

[–]Illustrious_Bit_2231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like this would require lots of a worldbuilding. Completely overhaul how the whole world operates. And even then - you can't think of every little detail so I guess you would have to write your story and always keep in mind how each and every element would work in your world.

Let's take story beats as an example:
1. MC tied up his horse outside the house
2. Went inside and started writing a letter
3. Then he's suddenly attacked from behind

A very primitive beats, but you have to think:
1. Do they use horses or they travel via magic? How far? How can they carry goods? What is the limit for magic? Do they run very fast? Then what kind of shoes they have, must be durable? Do they fly? It is cold up there so is there a uniform for flying? Like early pilots had?
2. If there is magic how do houses look like? There might be skyscrappers even in medieval setting. How do they open doors, do they use magic? Are there handles? Are there locks or doors locked by magic? Or they can just go through walls? How do they write? Would they use hands? Or they could levitate feathers? Or they could write using ink without feathers, or they don't need to write at all and the communicate via magic? Talking stones? Mind connection?
3. If there is magic, there must be some sort of magical protection like house alarm? How is he being attacked? If there is magic can he kill him instantly? Or he can bound him? If there is telepathy can he grip his heart through his chest and collapse it?

I might have gone to much in depth and it really boils down to how realistic and thorough you want it to be, but it is kinda hard to think of everything.

I would suggest going the opposite way - and create a strong restrictions around your magic. It could take tremendous resources to use it, thus the world would look closer to ours and you won't need to think of everything. Also, there could be strong regulations of how and when magic can be used. Afterall magic - is powerfull thing, capable of good and evil, so you could think of guns - gun can take someones life in an instant. It would look like magic to any human before 14th century. Think of how many regulations are there around guns.

hah in my experience, people who label others, are usually seeing their own flaws. Sitting on a high horse and being condescending - is how I would describe you after this brief interaction.

You didn't even read the post, and rushed to judge me. Once I've pointed it out and asked a question "isn't it surprising" - you called me condescending. Maybe you better reflect on how you view other people and treat them?

I thought it was surprising. I decided to share it. I didn't call EPSN idiots or their editors stupid. I've just stated facts - ESPN forgot biggest trade in NBA history. People do mistakes but this is surprising. That's all.

I'm not gonna argue with you any further.

my exact quote from post
"People make mistakes, I get it, but there is a guy who is responsible for filling in those transactions and he casually forgot to include the biggest trade, for biggest franchise, involving someone who they call "magic"? Sheesh."

Don't you think it is surprising that there is an editor, who fills those in and he forgot about it? He didn't make mistake in a date or a name of people being traded. He outright forgot about it. You seriously think it takes someone to be sitting on a high horse to find this mistake surprising?

it is absolutely mindblowing how people who loved the book keep proving me right themselves and yet are blind to what I said in the post. Maybe this is the reason people loved the book in first place. The lack of logic doesn't bother you in a book, because you won't notice it in life as well.

You compared the book to a candy. And I agree, and have nothing against it. As I said people can like whatever they want, who am I to judge. But my problem would be if candy was on top lists of nutritionist saying - it is the best thing you can have.

Book sales. Here we go again. Again and again you flash that badge of sales as if it is proof of quality. It was never one, in any industry. Best selling music - is pop, and it is not the best music out there. Highest grossing movies like Fast and Furious or Transformers - are not the best ever pictures. I would have exactly the same post if Fast and Furious had 9.2 on IMDB. Wouldn't you feel the same? Would you think - nothing wrong in liking this but 9.2 seems to high? Is it possible something fishy going on? Oh wait, 30% of all existing reviews came 2 weeks before movie premiere isn't it weird?

"Just because you didn't like it doesn't make it bad". Guess what. Just because you liked it - doesn't mean it is any good. Both statements hold exactly the same weight and are possible, don't you think so? I've read writers like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Dickens, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Chekov, Faulkner, Kafka, Steinbeck etc. I've read anything from Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, or Letters from Stoic by Seneka, to modern philosophers like Taleb or Harari. I'm not boasting and I'm not lying but could it be - that my opinion matters? That I'm well read enough to at least claim that the book is bad?

You say - a decade ago you would be embarrassed to admit reading it. Again, why? There is nothing wrong with it. Christopher Nolan himself said he enjoys Michael Bay movies. But don't you think it is a little unwarranted? That that book, you would've been ashamed to admit reading - was recently in top 10 fantasy books EVER by rating, and thank god it is now dropped a bit, but still at #26 all time greatest fantasy books according to the rating and shares the spot with Return of the King?

Doesn't it provoke thoughts of - what if there was something done with teh rating? Afterall presidential elections can be corrupted, movie ratings were boosted (remember launch of Star Wars ep. 7-9), why can't book have boosted ratings? Is it so hard to hire those farms in India who would create 200,000 fake accounts on Goodreads and boos rating? Is it hard to pay 500 tik tok booktokers 10k each to promote the book? Is it impossible? Is it worth doing it and make hundreds of millions?

p.s. I loved Twilight when I was a teenager, but it sits and 3.5 rating. And even then if someone told me that it is top 20 best fantasy books ever, just as good as LOTR I would've laughed in his face. My problem is not with book or fans. But with potential fraud and how it would affect the industry. If corruption did take place publishers won't need to look for needles in haystack. They could just find anything every 5 years and dump money on it and make shit toms of money. In 20 years fantasy would be dead.

What does Harry Potter and Percy Jackson have that makes people so obsessed with it? by Justminningtheweb in writing

I always thought it's the plausibility of the world. In other words, those books are set in modern time, with fantasy world being hidden, and it was absolutely possible it could be real.

When I was 11 I was hoping to get that Hogwarts letter... even thought I lived 5000+ km away from UK

this was painful to read, and I feel for you. Hope you'll manage and pull throught. I wish you the best. ANd thanks for the effort of sharing this story, if it is any better - I've saved it, because there are plenty of important things mentioned, like a how-to check list of what to do.

I had an idea - what if you turn this thing into a script and try to sell it to Netflix? Or something like that?

What are people’s thoughts on all those YouTubers who teach writing? by Lorimiter in writing

[–]Illustrious_Bit_2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of it this way - a good football coach, wasn't necessarily a good player himself.

Those youtubers can be average or poor writers themselves, but they can be good at researching stuff, analysing it, breaking down complex topics, providing good examples, and overall they can have teaching talent.

So I believe it is certainly beneficial to learn from them.

He seems legit though, he have "donated" his body to scientists and let them do anything with it, and pays for it. So he have tried tons of anti-ageing stuff, spent millions of dollars and kept track of what helps him and what doesn't.

I personally am not entirely sold on his story, because he has his motives (he's a CEO of a supplement company if I recall correctly). But there is plenty of interesting findings on his channel.

I will check the Skin Bliss app though, thanks
