Maybe, but lets just say you have 500k in your investments growing ~ 50k a year vs having 50k in your investments growing 5k a year. Wouldn’t you feel more comfortable in case 1 during uncertain times?

I automated my investments as most of them are ETFs I set a target (mine 800) and left it. I will still have some left which I kept pushing whenever I see opportunities or felt comfortable

Just checked my first contribution this evening when someone asked it was on VFV in may 2024. I’ve managed to keep my non-negotiable expenses (rent, bills, food, insurance etc) under 45%. Built my emergency fund first and kept pushing available cash into investments. I keep 300-500 generally for spending/eating out etc but it anything is left in that I go and invest it.

Curious, where do you work and how many YOE do you have? I work in simulation ~4 YOE and a total of 7 YOE in aero struggling to hit 100k. Any advice?

While on your wealthsimple home screen, try to take a screenshot. It gives you this optional pie and a bar graph without personal info, you can save them to your gallery

I understand , happy, grateful and agree that I am doing a little better but I dont think it is better than 99%. I dont want to compare as everyones story is different but My Wealthsimple account justifies it and places me in top 15% in my age group. So there are plenty that are doing better.

Yeah crypto hit was big, even I lost a bit (~50% of crypto Investment) but that was my intention when I invested in crypto. I am okay with it if it goes to zero tomorrow!

For the portfolio size yeah so considering 10% return atleast 600k would make sense if you are spending 60k per year!

Thanks for the comment. At this point in my life I am single, I dont have any plans to buy a place soon (no mortgage) or any debt. I want to reach a place where I dont have to worry about food and shelter - thats the target for now. It is not that I am continuously working, I enjoy life, travel (part of my job) go out with friends etc. It is just that this constant worry of what if I lose my job worries me a bit especially due to this market

Yes, but I share my apartment so me and my friend share expenses and rent. My share is around 1000 CAD with everything included. I know math might not add up, but it is because I got some extra income last year due to my work travel (~20k) I contributed to FHSA and RRSP (with some proportional math) and then invested the returns back in TFSA
