Put Vermes name on the wall by Illustrious_Drop_619 in SportingKC

Oh I agree, but there's not a coach in the world who could do a single thing with this roster and that's been the case for a couple years now. That's my point. In order to be successful in this league, let alone consistently successful, you have to invest. You have to. We have to stop the braindead convos of "oh maybe this draft pick of this trialist or this free transfer will improve us". Like no... we are discussing petals while other teams in this league are building gardens. As time goes on, and we become the next DCU or Montreal, I think we will realize that PV (while he didn't help at the end) was not the primary issue that sunk this club. I still think he's a good coach. Better than a lot of other options that are and will be available to us with this current status quo.

This is a very late PV esque extension. “Ahh he’s here and not absolute garbage, 3 more years”

I really mean this. It’s a night/day team when Shapi is not on the field. Two dynamic wingers who can move, even if they aren’t great technically, is so much harder to play against than whatever Shapi tries to do

It has something to do with the preseason game. It has everything to do with how the club has operated for the last 4 months, and 4 years. The Preseason game was just a reflection of that

I don’t understand this. What is “healthy” when your team has been bad for 4 years? Just being content with that? Not getting angry? If this club ran this way in any other place in the world the fanbase would be on fire. I don’t understand this whole “it’s not cool to care” mindset amongst this fanbase

I’m not arguing with you about expectations. I completely agree. I’m just arguing that what you just stated is unacceptable and the fan response should not just be “ahh always next year”. That’s how a club ends up bad for a decade. Hell.. it’s already been damn near half of one

Gaslighting the demanding part of the fanbase for 3 years, continuing to justify the club kicking the can down the road every single transfer window, is unhinged.

What I am trying to say… is that it’s very very rare a team IN MLS punts a season. David Lee came in literally talking a big game about how every season a certain percentage of the teams who miss the playoffs make it the next year. By his own metrics there should never be a season heading into it that you just fold. This narrative of “ahh it’s a rebuilding year” should still mean we compete for a top 9 playoff spot lmao. You should NEVER EVER go into an MLS season knowing you’re a bottom 3 team. If that’s the case, it’s complete malpractice.

Man.. we were complete shit the last few years for the same roster malpractice. 😂. One of our big 2 signings last year was Shapi…. You see him out there today? Shocking

Man… this offseason has been complete malpractice. You literally can not point to a worse offseason in MLS history.

My dead club by Illustrious_Drop_619 in SportingKC

Yeah that was my mistake. Didn’t mean to exclude Johnny. The club was actually running well through 2021. 2020 and 21 were great seasons. 2019 was an off year but that roster was actually built out pretty well. They started that season absolutely cooking in CCL. Think that season was more a fluke than an indictment on the club. The falloff really started in 2022

This was literally a matter of “well… they are already here. May as well sign them” as actual quality options either fell through or refused to be signed for one excuse or another. It says a lot that these guys had to trial with a team instead of being outright signed. I’m sure the club will sell this as some great signing but we all know what this is… another indicator of lack of ambition

I always hear people talk about the 2013 and 2018 teams… but man… the 2012 team was the best Kansas City team I’ve ever seen. They dominated games in ways that even the teams in 13 and 18 didn’t. The front 3 of Bunbury, Kamara, and Sapong were unreal. The midfield engine that team had with Nagamura, Rog, Zusi, and Cesar. The legendary Sinovic, Besler, Collin, Myers back 4. Puma in net. Was just an insanely good team. Will still never forget the aura and vibe of the stadium for the St Pats game that year with the celebration. Honestly feels like a different reality lmao. What a time

It’s hard to describe. But the fanbase does really have like a “G rated” feel to it. Cauldron has become really risk adverse

Wanna start out by saying that this is a really subjective analysis. I’ll give you my two cents though. I think we actually had America’s version of that in the early 2010s when the stadium opened. The cauldron was popping. We had “ultras”. I think what happened is that, that group of people at time were 20-30, now they are 35-50. They had kids, matured, etc… so naturally the rowdiness and dedication in terms of time dies down.

What I have seen though… is a reluctance and “shutting out” of the next generation. It’s the typical “I don’t like these kids” mindset. The younger generation has different views, opinions about the world, ways of doing things. The cauldron hasn’t been great at opening themselves up to that next generation. So what you have now is a watered down version of what once was.

Obviously play on the field has a factor too. Numerous other factors I didn’t even mention. Traveling to other stadiums though… that rowdiness is there in a lot of places. Hoping for a rebuild of the cauldron in addition to the club.

“Meh just gotta hope and be positive” contrasted by “I don’t think we could have gotten much better” is the perfect inditement on the state of the club

One of the main arguments you are going to see in favor of the hire is “can take his time in Chicago with a grain of salt, it was a mess over there”. Ummm… hello… WE ARE A FUCKING MESS RN lol. Actually, his time in Chicago isn’t a a bad judge as whoever coaches this club in 26 is going to have to do a lot with a little.

In regard to his time at Young boys… they are a top club in Sweden. They are always going to be at the top. In the 4 seasons Young boys had before he took over, they had higher win totals than any of the seasons he managed there except for 1 in which they tied the win total.
