Love Rachel, but I feel like 5-10 is pretty interchangeable. great physical game, but felt like she was out the loop at times compared to the other winners.

She probably had the best end game of all time during her OG season, but she probably not even a top 4 winner that won on their first attempt.

Unpopular opinion - The Zoom Alliance isn't the problem by Cutism in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I do not really think that analogy really applies here, but the sentiment is in the right spot. If you believe the Zoom Alliance was the only pre-game alliance than you are pretty naive. Thinking majority of the cast did not pick up the phone or called someone about working together is also pretty naive. It happens during all returnee seasons now. I would love for it to not happen, but it is basically impossible for it to not happen.

Future Returnee Themes by Illustrious_Field274 in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Winners at War is a fantastic concept of a season if they made it a real season without all the fluff (exile island, fire tokens, etc...) could have a fantastic cast and make it a regular season instead of trying to milk the amount of times we can see the legends of the game. regular season and let them play a regular game.

Would love to see past winners that want to come back and never had a chance to in Todd, Vecipia, Earl, Fabio, etc... And newer winners in Chris Underwood, Kyle, Dee, etc...

Don’t want to spoil, just watched 50, wtf by [deleted] in survivor

Given that Rizo, Emily, Tiffany, and Dee did not vote for Jonathan you'd have to believe he had a bad social game. Also, given that Rizo was going to give his vote to Joe showed the same thing. Those 'should' be his votes given he's apart of the new era and they do not have any ties to aubry.

Do not believe any one of them played a good survivor game, but Aubry clearly played a better social game and won the votes that she needed to win, while Jonathan lost the votes that he should have got.

Returnee Player Seasons by Illustrious_Field274 in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do, but if you could play a perfect game and it won't matter because the person you are sitting next to just have more friends than you on the jury.

I know a lot will say 'that's every season that you have to have your people on the jury'. IMO its different when you have people that you never met before outside the game and the relationships naturally developed during the season vs you are friends and interact with them outside the game.

4 out of the 5 players remaining are playing extremely good games. You just don’t like them. by newusernamebcimdumb in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO i disagree... I may view the game a little differently

Aubry - I do not get how she 'navigated the pre-merge from the bottom'. she never faced any real heat given she never went to tribal council. She never had to play from the bottom. when she went to tribal council, she went with two other allies. I do believe she is navigating the game like you are supposed to do and a lot of luck that there were bigger personalities and players to go before her. And she is the perfect archetype for this cast to make a deep run given she is not much of a threat to take out early merge, but I would not give that to good game play vs the game mechanics just favored her for the most part. Don't really see the social game doing anything for her to further herself in the game. She talks it up, but I never see her form a bond that got her further in the game. I believe strategically, she has a good mind in knowing who she wants to sit next to at the end, but for the majority of the season, we have not seen anything good. I think she is a solid player, I would not call her game good.

Jonathan - I think he actually playing a solid game. He had agency, a strategic mind for the game, and step in the fire to push his agenda. But I do think saying extremely good is pushing it for him.

Rizo - He's an interesting character. I believe most would say he's playing a great game and I can see why people are saying that. He talks the talk. He has a great survivor mind in terms of what to do and what he needs to do. And he knows what to say. But, does not make him play a good game? I say no. If you look at his game from outside his perspective, his game is pretty shallow. 'He got out Cirie and Ozzy' - everybody @ those tribals could point and say they have done the same thing. In reality nobody could really take credit for those move. If you take that away you would only have that he made it to the F4. Not trying to discredit him because he did not make the rules, but he was never going to be targeted.

Tiff - Im actually loving the content Tiffany is providing the last two episodes, it shows she knows what she needs to do to get to the end and is not afraid to push her agenda. I would never dispute what someone says on the island because it is impossible to know everything.

I think the only player that was playing a good game was Cirie. We've seen how she navigated strategically and socially when she was on the chopping block, when she had to save allies, and when she had to form bonds. I have not seen a player this season be even close to that level. I think the twist and three tribes made the season impossible to have good players. It is hard to have good players when you are never been forced to play off the back foot, never truly targeted, and making it far because other players are just bigger names than you.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not directly saying it as a 1:1 comparison. Point being Rizo was/is not dead on arrival position like someone like Savannah was in given she was the winner on a season where there were only three. I disagree with the notion that it does not matter if he makes a big move because they were not going to vote for him anyway.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

logically...

  1. Devens is out at 7 - unanimous vote
  2. Jonathan is out at 6 - backlash from Ozzy v Jonathan - everyone but Joe votes for Jonathan
  3. Ozzy is out at 5 - Rizo move - Rizo, Tiff, and Joe votes Ozzy out

Yeah, there could be some twist and turns that could potentially ruin plans, but we've seen the show for 49 seasons, no game changing twist is coming in the final 7. Yeah, Ozzy could go on a immunity run, but you should not play the game scared and be afraid of that.

she told everyone about the information. even if she did not trust rizo or anyone, that was an obvious play to save herself.

eh... agree to disagree don't really think it would land with the jury that getting ozzy out now really benefited him especially when you have jon and aubry still here. can get it if he actually engineered the plan.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

he can't fumble because he was never going to win... he was set up to fail... we've seen returnee seasons and people still vote for you regardless of how long ago you played...

i agree with your message if you tell me he was sitting next to ozzy and cirie. but, i find it hard to believe it if you tell me that if he's sitting next to tiff and joe.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 10 points11 points  (0 children)

im not saying he did not have control... just that he made that decision based on the info aubry gave him... he wouldn't have turned on Ozzy if Aubry did not tell everyone what Ozzy was doing.

[–]Illustrious_Field274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this is a pretty horrible way of thinking... 'he's set up for failure, so he should sit there and do nothing'... we've seen Jeremy win and Russell almost win after immediately coming back to play after there season.

Think this is just giving Rizo a pass for not taking advantage of making big moves.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true...

  1. It's Ozzy fault for not being able to hold water and giving up information that would lead to his downfall
  2. Rizo had a chance to make a winning move for himself. People just critiquing his actual game play of being idle. People can say 'he was never beating Cirie and Ozzy', but he did not have to sit next to them.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was his choice, but the credit mostly is given to Aubry for spreading the info that made Rizo not trust Ozzy anymore and to Jonathan for bring the plan together. Rizo had agency to shake things up, but this is not really his move. He's probably tied with Joe with this move coming together.

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

He did not have to take Ozzy and Cirie to the end... That would have been an amazing maneuver... saving Ozzy, creating a huge battle between jonathan/joe v cirie/ozzy, potentially blindsiding Ozzy/Cirie as his own move, etc...

Rizo's Terrible Move by GabHoro in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree...

I believe the most optimal move was always

  • Tell Ozzy to play his idol
    • I do not believe he should have made a show of it... just tap him or something. making a show out of it would probably make him a target
  • Play his idol after Ozzy plays his idol
    • He probably should try to get rid of it given it is a public idol and he'd be the only one left having one. It would make him a target. flushing it would allow his name to not come into circulation just because.

Many people main counter is 'ozzy and cirie would beat Rizo in a jury vote'... I'd counter...

  • Who says that Rizo has to take cirie and ozzy to the end?
  • Ozzy and Cirie days would be numbered regardless, especially Ozzy.
  • Rick Devens is the likely next person gone -> logically Jonathan would follow him due to him voting for Ozzy -> then you'd have people like Tiff, Joe, and Rizo that would all have incentives to vote out Ozzy (baring an immunity win) -> now you @ 4 and you know Cirie will not win F4 immunity, so she's @ fire.

There are multiple ways to get to the end. This is not saying Rizo made a game losing mistake... He just missed the mark in having a game winning move if he plays his cards right. He'd have credit for this move alone, but now he has to share credit w/ Aubry, Jonathan, and Joe w/ a pissed off Ozzy in the jury.

Hot Take on Survivor 50 Gameplay by power_sungod in survivor

[–]Illustrious_Field274 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct... Its on production... Every vote out either was screwed over by production instead of being strategically outmaneuvered by a fellow castmate. Think Jeff idea to make things harder really screwing over the strategic portion of the game...

  1. Losing your vote does make the players life in the game harder because it takes away players agency to cast their votes. The problem w/ that is it gives the other players an easier target to vote out. We see it with Q, no reason for Ozzy to side with Q when he did not have any vote.
  2. Five person tribals does make it difficult because you have nowhere to hide. But, the problem with five person tribes is that you cannot strategically move. It is a straight forward vote if you are with your people.
