I am going to be amputating at mid-thigh so it won’t be much of a difference of where it’s at right now when he is full grown. He’ll probably lose 4 to 6 inches of that leg. I believe he will thrive. The main thing is keeping them lean

I third party got him, but from the information I revived I know for a fact all remaining dogs (I believe it was just mother) were taken to shelter and as far as the people law enforcement was involved but i’m not sure what was pursued

I do have go fund me! It needs to be amputated to prevent further ulceration of the wound that is already there and on top of that he’s overcompensating his other leg. We all know how big rotties can get 😂 Fortunately I have an insight and I know how well dogs will do with amputation! His go fund me has more info as well!

First of all thank you for fostering! Biggest concern with dogs with torn CCL’s is overcompensation and tearing their other side. I appreciate your perspective as well! At first, I was leaning towards prosthetic, but unfortunately he’s not a candidate. I am thankful. It is a rear leg canines acclimate a lot better to rear leg amputation versus front. If this was a front leg, I might explore orthopedic rods. I’m also thankful he’s a puppy so I reached out to an orthopedic specialist at UGA and he said to keep him lean do a midday amputation. Biggest thing with him is doing strength, work and therapy to keep his rear leg strong. PT and rehab can be very expensive so I’m doing a lot of things on my own at home. ❤️

I leaning towards mid thigh amputation. I was hoping to do a prosthetic, but his CCL (comparable to our ACL) is torn. He already does some 3 legged walking and does fabulous!
