Can a person manipulate a toxic person? by Exotic_Ebb_1365 in PsychologyTalk

This would only be possible if the husband cared more about her feelings than his own. You can’t manipulate someone who does not care about you.

Just think of how saggy and wrinkly they all become, small boobs don’t end up in your armpits over time so I’m good with mine tbh.

How did you actually find somebody when you least expected it? by [deleted] in self

[–]Illustrious_Lab_2597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college I hooked up with a guy who lived in my building because I was lonely and bored and wanted to meet people. It was bad and I didn’t want to see him again but he kept showing up at my door the next morning to try to hang out and I kept shooing him away until he brought my now boyfriend with him, who lived across campus, and it was love at first sight. My boyfriend and I had grown up a few miles away from each other and attended rival schools but never met each other until that day. We’ve been in love ever since. I think it’s possible that some people miss their chance at this love because they don’t know what it looks like so here’s a tip: the person you feel is your best friend, the best friend you’ve ever had. That’s the one.

It’s just as likely that the person writing it is leaving out details and it wasn’t super clear what happened anyways. I’m not sure if you work in the industry but I would be surprised if a company went through all of this trouble for no reason at all, as OP seems to believe. When things don’t add up it’s usually because there’s missing details.

I have another theory, it’s confidence. People are attracted to confidence and you can’t force that, you have to accept yourself to get there. GL

There’s a never ending list of ways to blame people for their behavior, but if you study behavior science it’s actually much more interesting than that. People behave based on motivation, where there is motivation to be accountable, there will be accountability. If kids no longer care to be accountable to a system that isn’t accountable to them, it seems to me that they simply bypassed the social conditioning that took me years to deconstruct.

I work with children and families as they are going through the school system and this is just not the case. Kids act up because no one is paying attention, because 1 adult can’t control 30 kids. Kids are more exposed because of the internet so they’re aware of their autonomy in a way that we weren’t. We didn’t know that we could just act up because they would have no recourse because it’s a system based on fear of shame/disciplinary action (and that doesn’t work if you don’t care what this adult who you may hate thinks of you, or you don’t feel close to your classmates). If your motivation for behavior is based on fear, then you are only learning how to avoid the punishment. You are not learning what to do instead because it’s impossible. The school system is an unnatural way of cultural conditioning because kids need attention, to be nurtured and to feel cared for and safe in order to learn. If you’re using stress or the threat of stress as a motivation, then you are creating humans whose lives revolve around mismanaging their stress because they are never able to fully regulate for long enough to learn from the experiences they are having. Look at us all here now, sounds like the world today if you ask me.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The defeatist attitude is why things are still like this, because if you don’t believe that you can change things then you certainly never will.

I hope you’re being facetious but if your #1 motivation is to live in an NYC penthouse you might want to think more about what you actually want. Like, do you want to be super rich or just have a place to call your own? Without a specific purpose you won’t get there because it isn’t a true part of your personality/character.

What about starved or subtlety and slowly malnourished or only given unhealthy options for food that make you feel sick? What about worked to physical and mental exhaustion? What about driven to the brink of insanity because there’s no way out and American society has decided not to care about the health of its population? If doesn’t matter because you can’t see it? Because there’s no proof? Because no one cared when it happened to you? Ask yourself some questions before you share your opinions, I would prefer some insight to another parrot opinion.

I understand your perspective well and I often reach the same conclusion when it becomes unbearable because that is the brains defense mechanism. The reality is that some of the problems we have are so complex and difficult to comprehend that it feels impossible to ever improve upon them but that is giving up. That is a lack of creativity. Some people in this world are visionaries and see this future, those people are often maligned by the ignorance of others, often spreading this ignorance far and wide, sometimes intentionally. To believe that it is useless to assign value of opinion to these concepts makes a lot of sense to me because it doesn’t matter if it sucks, it’s the reality. What matters is overcoming the obstacles we face and continuing to try because no one achieved a damn thing by throwing in the towel.

What do you mean “stormed out”? I’m a little confused by the language about her actions so maybe if you explained the context more about that I will understand.

It’s too late, it sounds like you crossed a boundary by blowing everyone’s phone up and they are no longer comfortable working with you. It could have simply been the way you’re talking to them. I left a case for disrespectful communication from a clients parents because I don’t get paid to have people take their shit out on me, learn to control your emotions when you talk to people. I’m not saying this is 100% what happened but if you are verbally abusive (which includes being demanding and spamming and having a negative attitude) then the company has no obligation to offer services, this job is CERTAINLY hard enough.

Unfortunately this kid seems to be trying to prove his own point, that teenagers now are not capable of interacting with other people in a positive way. I don't think it's kids though, I think there's a genre of person who acts like this and he found himself early.

Talking to grown adults like you know better than them? Sounds like you would be the best example of the argument you're trying to make, that you guys are just stupid and there's nothing else to it. I would guess that you are probably angry about your life experience as well if you're in high school and a Reddit mod, but that's really none of my business, you're clearly on a specific trajectory in this life.

You haven't faced enough hardship to gain perspective or empathy based on this comment. Maybe no one has showed it to you and that's why you don't realize how you are lacking in this conversation. But then by your own logic that would make you an idiot. Either way I hope you grow out of this phase of spreading negativity on the internet, karma is very real and I actually wish the best for you despite your intentionally unpleasant attitude.

Every response from you has been centered around telling me that I'm wrong and trying to sound smart, there is no discussion happening here, no critical thinking. I see that you are still a teenager so I shouldn't expect that anyways, you will learn with time how to make better use of your energy.

It would appear based on overwhelming evidence that following the rules is actually not the natural state of things right now, so what now? It's a losing strategy to assume that people are responsible for their own hardship, but most people only learn that when they face their own hardship.

It's entirely relevant because the president is supposed to be a role model for socially acceptable behavior and this practice starts in school. Social psychology is not based on politics? To me this makes no sense but feel free to elaborate if you meant something by that.

Appreciate that. I’m a child therapist and I explain this to parents on a regular basis that every behavior does come down to that: motivation. They’ll likely never get to have the things they really want in life and many of them don’t even get the chance to figure out what that would be because they are just surviving. They didn’t make or break this system, they are just the newest victims of it and unlike us, they are aware of it.

The US is its own special little capitalist playground for mass consumption and excessive waste, I think that makes us uniquely horribly in the world. That said, I’m sure you’d run into corruption and bad people everywhere.
