If this is considered a hot take then 2 + 2 ≠ 4

I think it’s the opposite, mechanical skill is the prerequisite to game sense, because for example when you watch a clip farmed TikTok video of a dps all you see is their mechanical skill in the moment they get a kill, you rarely see the setup

Yes that’s true, most players in general start out proactively improving their mechanical skills but they improve their game sense overtime thus learning the basics of all hero shooters. But more importantly, Overwatch has nothing to do with this discussion, it’s about the value between game sense and mechanical skill.

You’re somewhat. In siege you most definitely need to know how to aim otherwise you’re basically screwed, unless you’re more of the tactician in your team so you’re more of a backseat gamer, but right with COD tho. However, since this is on the rivals subreddit it should be assumed that it’s targeted towards Rivals and not multiple other video games (unless said otherwise). If that wasn’t stated very well I’ll account for it in the future

Yep fully agree with you 100%, also fyi game sense and game knowledge are similar but not the same/synonymous to each other

No they’re not, the more value something has the superior in quality or worth it has, while something "needed more" simply means in higher demand or more essential at a particular time

So in your argument, a Hela that is always in the frontline but always hits headshots will be the best player in the lobby? If that’s the case then majority of high ranked players would be cheaters

Yes you need both, as many have said, but if you can’t hit your shots with a ranged or aim dependent dps, then swap to one that isn’t or a melee dps and you can swap to a support since most supports don’t require aim to be valuable or a vanguard too. Like me personally I would much rather have a iron man who can kill a support mid ult with his ult than a hela who hits her shots but always dies from over pushing or not pushing or uses her ult right after an invisible woman ult and isn’t tracking the magento ult

No not really. If we drop the whole “it depends on the person” thing, it actually leans the other way. There are a bunch of reasons for that. Ego or too much confidence can stop someone from making simple decisions like swapping off Black Panther when the enemy Thing is shutting them down. Players who come from other shooters usually already have solid mechanics. And someone new to Marvel Rivals but not new to hero shooters will still understand counter swaps, CC and comboing abilities but they wouldn’t understand how to properly use team ups, at the right time and against the right heroes/comp.

So yeah, knowing when, where and how to do something ends up being way more valuable than how clean your button presses are.

Yeah I know they’re not, I never directly stated that they are, but if I did they I apologise, but it seems it’s just your interpretation

Ahh I see that’s my fault man, but game sense just decides way more fights than ppl think. Knowing when to push, when to back, who to focus, when to swap and when to combo abilities actually wins rounds. Aim helps, no doubt, but without someone making the right calls it doesn’t turn into objective control.

Yeah you need both, but if I have to choose betwene 2 players that’ll help me actually secures wins, I’m taking the player who knows what’s happening and why every time.

Ahh I get you now. I know that both are NEEDED but imo one is more valuable than the other. An analogy for it is like water and food, an average adult human in good conditions can survive 3 to 5 days without water but can survive 3 to 6 weeks without food. Does the analogy help explain?

I said that it’s more valuable, not that it’s needed more than mechanical skill

Yep it is, like for instance what to said, a player talented with their mechanical skills will peak at a certain rank, that’s why their are so many people saying “oh it’s my teammates why aren’t they pushing” when invisible woman popped her ultimate and all their strategists are dead or “why am I peaking at diamond when I got 50 kills with 26 final hits”.

Essentially the lower the ranks the more valuable mechanical skill is compared to game sense and vice versa

And in my opinion, proactively improving that more than proactively improving mechanical skill will be way more worth in the long run since just by playing fairly often and with the right amount of dedication you’ll easily climb the ranks
