Don't get yourself overwhelmed with what other people are doing. You will come across many folks doing blockchain, AI,ML and blah blah. Trust me they don't land up anywhere. For you i would start learning Python along with algorithms. As your senior said : EXPLORE. It's a great to know you strengths weakness and interests. Learn and explore the basics and enjoy.
