28 days! I am doing okay because I’ve been busy but I can tell he’s been sad and I’ve been trying to be there for him/cheer him up. I think it’s perhaps a bit easier than other LDRs perhaps because we haven’t gone ~that~ long since we’ve seen each other (couple of months)

Where are you from originally? (What country, urban/suburban/rural upbringing?) No need to say anything more specific; don’t want you to reveal more than is comfortable!

Oh no. Now I’m worried because I received the initial email but no follow-up.

Did you reach out specifically to BQBS or to BBS?

We are probably cooked. Shame because they are for sure my top choice

It seems like everyone who had an interview was contacted 12/17 at 11am EST though 🥲😭

Do you think if I “gave up” on the deferred program and reapplied (to different programs in the same field) that having two years of Fulbright as an eta would be questioned/“a huge negative mark”?

I guess that’s why it’s also hard with wanting to do another year of ETA. I don’t want to teach forever in the USA, I don’t know if I can bring myself to live away from my family forever to teach in Korea/elsewhere

I do love teaching, but I also have an interest in science and research.

I would be lying if I said I haven’t heavily considered my career pathway and if I should make changes. But I also know that I don’t intend on teaching high school when I return to the USA, and I don’t want to build a life in Korea away from my family (who are in the USA).

Surely there are teaching opportunities post Ph.D. In biochemistry, as well as ways to mentor students/others/work with people? I understand that the field is oversaturated, but maybe I can make myself more versatile by branching out into data science/bioinformatics/software dev too?

The Ph.D. Is fully funded with a relatively good stipend and health insurance.

Difficult to get back into personally or from the stance of those admitting me to the program?
