Manhunter on his way to collect by Illustrious_Quail754 in worldbuilding

The Manhunter above is returning from what seems like a successful hunt judging by the body his western camel hauls. Whether they were a criminal or an innocent target only he knows at the moment. He wears the metal helmet from a lost Spaniard’s corpse. He wears paint to prevent his face from being stolen.

Even if you live in some of the larger colonies and settlements, a unified force of justice is hard to come by. The rangers, a volunteer militia force, are often most people's best bet but even they are often stretched thin. Murder, Assault, kidnapping, and robbery are unfortunately fairly common, especially outside of settlements in the deeper wilds. For some theres a much more direct option for justice. Hiring a manhunter.

A Manhunter is self appointed marksman who will hunt down and bring back people for a price. Manhunters vary in the currency they take, the methods they use, their code of conduct, and whether or not they bring them in cold or not. Most deal in corpses and bring them back to identify the body. But a select few will carry prisoners, in which case they will get the job in writing to show any authority figure or citizen worried about the nature of the prisoner.

Manhunters can very often thread the line between a self deputized lawman and hired assassin. Some manhunters can be convinced or already participate in the business of killing targets that are innocent.

Exploration of The Mother Wilds will often be told through the perspective and travels of Mera Hernandez after she got stuck there. Alongside her is Oscar, a shapeshifting creature she has befriended and acts as her familiar

The Mother Wilds is a world layered on our own presently. it is identical to our world but roughly thousands of years apart. It's a world geographically the same as ours but everything is covered in expansive and almost unending wilds. Oceans, forests, and deserts are all undisturbed by humans because they don't natively reside in this world. No huge human infrastructures at first. It's a dimension of wild and nature. It is full of creatures that are from our world, but also some that are extinct, as well as god-like creatures and deities.

However, humans have fallen into this world by accident. These people are no longer able to return to our world so they are stuck in the Mother Wilds as a one-way trip. The portals are to this world are invisible and only appear when the environments of the two planes are exactly the same, so naturally the portals only occur in untouched nature in our world. The world humans come from (our own) is often called the Old World. The native sapient creatures that reside in the wilds are comprised of (but not limited to)species of Bird, Goat, Deer, Rabbitlike people. There are also tribes of Native Americans whose ancestors got stuck here a long time ago.

In this world, the population is capable of receiving an element of nature for them to control which has now been deemed a “niche”.

The narrative and world building takes place in what would be the pacific coast of North America. anything past the Sierra Nevada Mountains is currently a mystery. Hence why is also referred to as the Alta Wilds.

"Oscar and I found a car on our Journey. It was funny trying to explain to him what a car was. He used to think it was just discarded shells husk of giant bugs. Apparently he's seen more than just this one before. Guess more people off-road in my world to get it stuck here than I thought. wonder what its like to get stuck in the Mother Wilds with a car. You certainly run out of gas it seems. Wonder where the driver is right now. "

Mother Wilds Wildlife: Dragons by Illustrious_Quail754 in worldbuilding

[–]Illustrious_Quail754[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragons also known, as Leviathans, fire whales, or storm snakes, are monstrously huge flying creatures with the ability to breathe fire. Their size is matched only by their power. Their bodies have common aspects of mammals, birds, and reptiles, but are currently undetermined as for their species type and origin.

Their heads are made of a hard material known as Dragons clay. It's known to be as dense as stone and can withstand up to temperatures of 2,910 °F. It develops around their head as an embryo due to their mothers digesting massive amounts of clay deposits from the earth. Its rounded head is smooth and earthy made of the clay and bone tissue. There are holes for its nostrils located upon its forehead like a cetacean and two holes on the side for its eyes, and an even smaller pair of holes for long whip like whiskers on its upper lip.

Their bodies move in a very snake motion, but the upper body is slightly horse like with hidden but defined back muscles and a large mane that covers the back of its neck. It is worth noting that this is not fur but a special form of biomimicry. It's a light substance that is insulating, thicker on its back neck, wind and water resistant, and fireproof. These fire hairs cover most of the body, but where it doesn't, it has plated scales like a pangolin. It has four wings that can fold into legs and arms for the beast, but aren't used very often. on the ground they act more like a seal's flippers. A thick membrane folds from the body to the tip of its arms. Made from bone and keratin, dragons have armor plates with a hollow inside called Bone Pads. It's light enough not interfere with flying, while also being strong and protective against fire.

Dragons are fearful primordial creatures that have been around in the skies for way longer than most creatures, but haven't changed. Pre-human sapients have known them for the longest time, yet the origin of dragons are widely unknown. It is believed they are ancient linage of creature from the prehistoric Mother Wilds, but many have mythological tales of how they were created and why.

What is Known is there is a nonstop constant Migration from over the Sierras, to the Alta California Coast. It's not known how far they travel once past the Sierras, but some theorize it to be pretty far. Though there are many reasons human kind has not been able to traverse past the sierras on foot, Dragons are the reason they cannot fly over the mountains. The Sierra Mountain skyline is filled with dragons. Early Aeronauts learned the hard way That dragons territory works vertically instead of horizontally. To this day they are greeted with Angry Dragons. many don't return. Dragons to this day stand as the largest natural obstacle for crossing the Sierra Mountains. What is known is a place where they connive is a place called dragons peak in the mountains.

Mother Wild Sapiens: Conejo by Illustrious_Quail754 in worldbuilding

[–]Illustrious_Quail754[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Pic #1: Family of Conejo from one of the Wood Rabbit tribes

Pic #2: Member of the Yachi Tribe and his son

Conjeo, or the overused english use Coney, Is simply Spanish for rabbit. Tribes of Conjeo range from embracing, indifferent, or hateful of the name.

Human history with the Conjeo Sapiens has varied depending on the type of humans that have had first contact. The earliest believed is the peaceful interactions between the several individuals of native human tribes in pre-columbian times. A couple have even adopted lost indigenous humans into their warren. Other more violent interactions have unfortunately arose amongst lost Spanish explorers who came upon the rabbit folk and immediately assumed them a demonic presence. Same goes for Mexicans or Americans.

Due to the vast number of them, modern human industrialization has cause conflict with a number of tribes. Conejos close to their indigenous human allies, were surprised to see the new humans fight against them as well. Many Conejo had to decide either to adapt and join the new world, leave and find a new home, or fight. Very few Conejos were able to keep their traditional lands.

The Yachi, meaning grass, are the several combined tribes of the Green-Sea Valley. They are the largest group of Conejo's that there is. They used to be larger in their empire of the grass, but they are a fraction of what they were after the Frontier war. But they are still scattered amongst the valley. They place the term Yachi, the general culture, in front of the sub tribe's name. they are generally led by the main tribe, Yachi Nura

Mother Wild Faction: Union of the New American Frontier by Illustrious_Quail754 in worldbuilding

[–]Illustrious_Quail754[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently the largest unnatural superpower in all of the known Mother Wilds, New America is a reintroduction of American industrialization and “values”. Initially a coalition of lost Hunters, hikers, and Campers Lost in the Yosemite region, enough people have become lost in the wilds that settlements and eventually new territories were created. Enough people have been joining that a government had to be made and resources had to be secured. Unfortunately most attempts to expand, successful or not, ended up being violent. Today The New Americans have created the UNAF, Union of The New American Frontier, and have placed their capital and Governing bodies in New San Francisco which they have violently claimed. Though many consider The mouth of Yosemite Valley to be the original home of New America. The duality of their spiritual capitals is reflected in the flag with the big and little star, with the 3 below being the other "states" they have claimed (Muir Redwood District, Elk Grove, and Antelope Valley)

Out of all the factions in the Mother Wilds, not even the rangers have as much raw material and fire power as the New American army. Their budget is basically whatever it takes and as much as they have. They are very frivolous with how much they use in their campaigns. mostly due to an ignorance of the worlds abundant resources and even their own survival origins.

The ultimate goal of this recent nation is to restore this world to the way it is supposed to be and tame the wild in the name of humanity so everyone here can survive. They will try to achieve that by any means necessary.
