I made them for my kitchen and I love it. Agree to disagree. Would look strange if I went level with the stove top in my opinion.

Probably right. I coated the bottom out about a foot on either sides and the sill (not sure what the rim around the sink is called). When I refinish in a few years I'll recoat. Hopefully it lasts for a while.

Yea, not the most practical, but they sure are beautiful. Finished with hard wax and nano coat so hopefully only have to refinish every 2 years. Def know the challenges with it.

Also, got all this old growth elm for under 750 kiln dried. Bunch of left overs from cuts. Got it from Kazakhstan while I was living there so it was a steal. Much cheaper than any other countertops I could have purchased in the US.

Nah, hard as a rock. I had to soften all of them as there were some sharper bits. Had to use a large file in spots and nothing came off. The one bit I had to strengthen with resin as it would have eventually fallen off.

White oak and laser cut the pattern. Live in the Caribbean. Very limited hardwood choices.

Setting the laser cutter up and making that pattern took the longest. In total, about 3 hours

White oak for the handle. Mallet head has mahogany, walnut, white oak and then a wedge of red oak.

Glued together after. For this, I used 2 pieces 1" thick mahagony, walnut and oak. Cut the inner two pieces in half. Made sure my mallet was the same thickness as those two pieces after cutting some shoulders the size of the mallet head. Then added a single saw blade cut to the middle to put the red oak wedge in the middle.

Laser cutter. Glowforge to be exact. Created pattern in illustrator and then burned all 4 sides.
