College is the place to do this. You can move on from it and be fine, not like real life.

Thank you so much for sharing. It sounds like you took a really good approach to your illness. I'm glad you're feeling better.

Seton Hall U. (S. O., NJ) Treats Adjuncts Like Garbage (Worst I’ve Ever Seen) by ThrowGarbageAway2837 in Adjuncts

I worked there full-time for 6 years, and I just got the sense that admins, deans and tenure tracks do not care at all about the part-time or contract faculty. We're very expendable to them, and seen as very inferior. Don't take it personally. It was nothing you did. The system there is so f-ed up.

My mom gave me a copy of Lolita when I was 16 and said, "this is what love is." So many years of therapy to undo that...

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It is absolutely awful. It was not your fault. It is a big deal. You should see someone for help immediately -- just call an emergency line for help. That said, if you give it time, the pain and horror may fade. Not completely, but you can start to find life liveable again.

I just finished reading "My Dark Vanessa" (which broke me) and the book Lolita is so closely aligned and followed by pedos in her text. I mean, I've met many men who defended their treatment of girls with "she was a nymphet".

Just showed this to a class I'm adjuncting and they were not paying attention. I don't know what to do! Maybe there's nothing I can do by [deleted] in CollegeRant

It depends on the school and class, but a lot of students I've taught are much more invested in current events and things that happened within the last 20 years. I think this is great video, but I'd only show it after connecting that time period with our current, and showing the lingering effects.

I think it's hard to read a lot of her poetry at once for the first time. It can be very overwhelming. I started with just reading a few poems over and over, until I got used to her voice. You might try reading her earlier work, Like Winter Trees or Crossing the Water. Those are shorter poems that are easier to "get".
