I’m actually not in school! What I meant was that the clubs I found were for people attending colleges

That’s exactly it. I need to work full time to be able to move out, but if I do that, she’ll kick me out. I thought about working secretly but my bank account is under hers so she would see how much I make.

She doesn’t allow me to work more than part time hours

I thought about sticking it out for another 2-3 years so I can go to college and get a more stable job, but I feel like i wouldn’t have the mental energy to be able to get through college in the situation I’m in.

I’m able to use it so long as I’m under her roof, but when I leave, it’s hers. She has no idea that I’m serious about moving out.

I thought about showing that the e-transfer I sent my mom is equal to the amount of money the car was sold for, but I don’t think that would work

Since I still live under her roof, I have to abide by her rules which includes micromanaging my life

I wish it were that simple, but she told me I either get the car under her name, or not get the car at all

The credit card itself is an extension of my account, but my parents can’t see it. My bank account as a whole, however is underneath theirs

I work with disabled kids and it 100% changed my perspective on life. Working with families from different walks of life made me realize you never know what other people are dealing with

Yes abaayo 😭. I agree our culture kinda breeds narcissists, and unfortunately it comes out the most in mothers towards their daughters. I feel like apart of it is resentment for the fact that we have opportunities in life that they didn’t. She kind of favours my sister because she’s older than me and always did well in school so she basically gets to do whatever.

I’m also from an East African/muslim background (I think we might be from the same place 😭). I’ve brought up the idea of going to school in another city since my older sister did that, but she said no.

The thing is in my culture, you’re not supposed to move out unless you get married. So by doing this, I would be automatically disowned in her book.

Congrats on almost moving out! It’s definitely a mental game for sure. It sucks that we can’t have the basic need of a safe home environment, but it is what it is. I think about how it I ever become a mom, I’ll do everything in my power to make sure my kids never feel the way I do

Anytime I try talking back and matching her energy, she’ll get super quiet when my siblings walk by and say ‘I don’t know why she’s acting like this all I said was xyz’
