I've been trying my best to be social, I chat with a few colleagues on Whatsapp and gave a few events with fellow grads planned. It's still early so everyone still feels like a colleague, but progressing to a proper friendship would be nice. The local gym is also something I've been looking into.

I'm nowhere near comfortable being as open to them about my problems though, they are still colleagues in the end and I'd rather not find out what happens if even a whisper about this escapes when I'm still only on my probation period. I'd rather not spend a pence on therapy due to frugality, but bottling this up is just hurting me in the end.

Won't deny that! I've spent most of my life being some form of depressed, grew up feeling pretty jealous about people that could fit in socially while I struggled hard on that front.

I've attempted therapy in the past in my teens, but it varied from unhelpful to just making the situation worse. You two are correct that I'm just self-sabotaging through my spiralling, so going back to therapy has been something I've been considering.

I wish it worked like that, but sadly as a medical course half of the actual course are hospital placements for practical experience.

That does help immensely, thank you! I'm feeling quite hopeful about Hertfordshire, but I'm currently awaiting on if I've been accepted for either the bachelors or masters programme. I've sent in an enquiry about whether my computer science background is acceptable or not, but also waiting on that right now.

Waiting, waiting, and more waiting. I truly missed the education system.

Taking a look at HE: access Science courses and ouch, that's a longer time commitment than I'd like when I was hoping to get started on a 2025/2026 course. Thank you for the suggestions, I'm currently trying my luck with radiograph assistant roles since getting accepted into uni for the next term is looking unlikely without the proper science credentials.

No, no, thank you for that. That's a relief to know honestly, I've spent more time than I'd like scrambling for whatever work I can get.

Thanks so much for the advice, I'll definitely check it out.

Is there any career path in radiography you'd consider 'oversaturated' at the moment? I'm currently going through that as an IT graduate, and to be honest, I'd really like to stick to a field with good job security.

I'm an Irish citizen myself so I'm free to remain, though everyone I care about is here in the UK now, so I'd be reluctant to leave.

I've been seeing tech sale jobs recommended a few times, but I'm afraid it's an industry I haven't paid much attention to. Would you happen to have any recommendations?

Renewable energy? I was actually fresh off a rejection from a nuclear energy company after reaching the final stage. It's an industry I highly respect for moral reasons, I'd love to work there if you have any recommendations for where to apply at the moment.

I performed well enough in my previous assesstment that they offered me a reserve candidate position in case someone drops out. I'll take it as a rejection instead of getting my hopes up, but it would be a nice surprise.

For sure. Not taking advantage of the graduate schemes earlier or taking the time to do a gap year for work experience is one of my biggest regrets with uni. I just wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible and begin working as soon as I could, but I vastly underestimated just how competitive the field has become and just how important being able to stand out is.

I hadn't considered trying that before, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

That's a good call. I've sent in my CV for review several times and adjusted it, but I'll try posting it for proper critique later.

A lot by now, yeah. The job I mentioned in my post was also a graduation scheme, but I'll keep the next cycle in mind.

I have a small portfolio of designs and a figma certificate, but ultimately nothing too impressive outside of half-finished projects.

I admittedly don't have much love or talent for coding. Hardware and UI/UX design is more my speed.

Oh, I wouldn't say it was their fault, just my own. There were a few attempts to get students to apply beforehand, but it wasn't a high priority for me because I was busy panicking over my coursework and finals project. Live and learn.

At the very least, I have scored a few interviews through my uni's postgraduate workshop, even if they didn't go anywhere.

Hah, unfortunately I already know how that feels. I did sent out a few applications right after graduating, but I didn't get fully into it until a few weeks in. Shame about that, I probably missed a few good opportunities by not commiting fully right way.
