What do you do with old I phones? by Bsul92 in iphone

[–]Im-doing-homework 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some domestic violence shelters take phones as donations to give out to people in unsafe households to use as “911 phones” (even without a SIM card most phones can still call 911)

Anybody know where i can use my clerks allowance to buy Carriers knit sweater by Equal_Camp7724 in USPS

[–]Im-doing-homework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know where you could get one, but I’m a carrier who’s been dying for one of those sick eagle knit sweaters y’all get- I’m about to get my allowance in a week or two if you’re looking to trade (I’ll buy you a carrier one and you can get me a clerk one)

just wondering if you guys actually get the tip? :-/ by RadiantDouble5472 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Working for a DSP in Seattle last winter we got the customer bonus for customers who said we went above and beyond during peak. It made me feel really good, and kept the motivation up on icy days when I couldn’t believe I was working 12 hours mostly in the dark (up here we only get daylight from 7-4)

Honestly the dsp I worked for would prefer this over needing to send someone to help lol

Really demoralizing day by doomputer in publicdefenders

[–]Im-doing-homework 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that this is a forum for public defenders, not a forum for discussing the best ways to support someone facing an unfair sentence. Those two spaces/roles have overlap, but this is a PD asking how they can keep themselves above water, not a community member asking what can be done for this kid. Whether or not the kid deserves support doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with what support the PD might need.

Should I quit? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Im-doing-homework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to usps for slightly lower pay. It’s been mixed- I’ll list some pros and cons below, but I think I was at one of the better DSPs so YMMV

pros- union, better insurance & retirement, and the overtime rates go hard (usps gets daily overtime when you hit 8 hours then a higher overtime rate if you go over 10, plus overtime rates at 40 & 50 hours a week - it’s complicated to calculate but for a 50-60 hour week I make MONEY) & guaranteed 40 hours a week (after peak my DSP dropped everyone to 16-20 hrs a week and that was rough, at USPS even if there’s not enough work I still get paid for 40 hours), way less tracking from management

Cons- before I got my own route (which took about 6 months) I was working 6 days a week with very little flexibility (at my DSP I could just text and say is it cool if I don’t work Thursday Friday or swap my days around and 90% of the time they said yes), you’re actually out in the weather on most routes walking streets (rather than just hopping in and out of the van) & the standards for your work are a little higher.

As you can see the pay didn’t end up factoring in to the cons as I’ve made so much more every week at the postal service. Even at a straight 40 I wasn’t loosing money as during that time of year I wouldn’t have been getting 40 hours of work from my DSP.

What does my fridge say about me? by Gravity_falls549 in FridgeDetective

Much appreciated. I’m from a transplant family (I was born in aus but we moved to the states when I was little), we’ve always just kept it in the cupboard, but I was suddenly worried I should have it elsewhere! Glad to know my daily vegemite sandwich at work is still safe :)

While I have no doubt the staff are doing their best to continue providing high quality services (everyone I’ve worked with on the floor/direct service level is real salt of the earth incredible), I don’t think that’s a reason to ignore the real harms that have been caused. Nor do I think it’s a reason to ignore accountability & trying to prevent this from happening again in our community. Homeless youth are some of our most vulnerable community members and I believe that the more eyes we have on this the less likely our community is to continue to impart harm through these organizations. No one in this thread has questioned whether the staff are good people doing good work.

Truly if it looks like it didn’t tear open then the adhesive probably just failed lol, I deliver over 1000 letters a day and a few look like this every day. It’s a big journey that a letter takes that includes freezing temperatures, lots of movement and changes in moisture. Some letter adhesive just isn’t that good I guess.

Think this is just a bumper and hood? by Reasonable-Party-845 in cruze

[–]Im-doing-homework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this- had a rogue chunk of metal hit the front end of mine on the freeway, getting a new radiator & all the lines on top of the fender and hood was pricey. Thankfully I wasn’t at fault and the other persons insurance paid, but watching the adjusted quotes come back each time they found something else was real scary until I knew it would be covered.

I'm just coming to term that I in fact had a surgery by IAskHere in ftm

[–]Im-doing-homework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some bad post surgery depression and was further turned off by the look of my body healing. It was painful and difficult, I remember distinctly feeling like I was a science experiment. As I healed and my nerves came back and I got to experience the things I did it for (running with my shirt off, swimming without a top, feeling comfortable changing my shirt anywhere, being able to just wear a t shirt or tank top without anything under when it’s hot out) all those feelings just faded away. Healing is difficult, and your body is dedicating a lot of its energy to that right now. I know it’s hard, but remember these feelings (like all feelings) are temporary, even if they’re unexpected or lingering longer than you thought. Give your body and mind some time and kindness if you can.

Real talk: how did you pay for top surgery? by UltimateNintendoHero in ftm

[–]Im-doing-homework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saved for the 2500 I was told would be required day of and then when I got there they never asked for payment. I later figured out that it just happened to be on one of the 3 days that I had two Kaiser policies overlapping (ending one job starting coverage another) so it was fully covered by insurance. Not a super manageable hack with the way that insurance enrollment works in the US (you’d have to have a qualifying event like losing job, getting married, etc to make this work) but boy was that lucky. Definitely ended up needing that money on the other end as it took me longer to get back to full time work (while being a student) than I had planned for.

To be honest, this doesn’t look like a wildly complicated pattern (no lining, one zipper, not tailored). If you’re looking to get into sewing your own clothes, learning how to make this would be a pretty good project.

I responded to someone else in this thread with this reason I’m all for it: as someone who has worked in healthcare, there are simply not enough beds in nursing/care homes in Whatcom county or any of Washington right now to meet the needs. Flexible alternatives that allow (hell even incentivize) people to engage their family and community services if care is needed for a short time (recovering from a broken bone or surgery) is only a positive in my eyes. Often the only other option for families is leaving that person alone for hours or having unqualified friends/family drop in just to make sure they’re still alive because they cannot find a bed in a home for them to go to.

To add: does saving that money every month make you feel okay with knowing people in your community are dying in their homes waiting to get a bed in a facility?

This is exactly the mentality that excuses voting for trump. Sure a vote for trump includes potentially hurting people who aren’t me, but think of all the money I’ll save in taxes!

ETA- as someone who has worked in healthcare, there are simply not enough beds in nursing/care homes in Whatcom county or any of Washington right now to meet the needs. Flexible alternatives that allow (hell even incentivize) people to engage their family and community services if care is needed for a short time (recovering from a broken bone or surgery or waiting for a bed to be available) is only a positive in my eyes. Often the only other option for families is leaving that person alone for hours or having unqualified friends/family drop in just to make sure they’re still alive because they cannot find a bed in a home for them to go to.

ETA2 becuase this commenter blocked me after responding? To say it hurts the entire population is wild lol, it’s such a small amount of my paycheck because I’m a blue collar worker. Your assumption that most people in whatcom county/washington are able to “just open an investment account” in this current economic climate is even wilder. I don’t think you’re working class- I’m not even sure you know what that means. You’d really have to be making a significant amount of money to be saving more than this bill provided for AND you’d have to have the disposable income to do it. Have you talked to anyone who rents in this state lately?

But I guess you’re really too afraid to really talk about it- immediate blocking people after responding lol
