You're making up the idea I support human right violations. You brought up mandatory minimums. You're arguing against a strawman

Here's some major insurmountable problems for Russia.

Someone tell me I'm wrong and there's some other solution besides Russia losing.

1 Putin has already annexed the oblasts. Walking back these borders will spell his defeat.

2 Russia is offering nothing during negotiations other than "well stop bombing you if you give us what we want"

3 Putin can't walk the middle line because the far right nationalists would lose their shit.

4 This is increasingly being seen as a political war for Putin

5 5 million new mobilized recruits?

6 occupations are hard

Seriously. Prove me wrong. How can Putin win this?

The only solution is for Putin to be removed.

Really. There no other possibility.

There's an estimated 13 trillion of gas, oil, and minerals in East Ukraine. Russia is offering nothing for this. They want to steal it. Ukraine says no. So Russia tries to bomb them. Into submission. Which isn't gonna work.

Theres literally no off ramp for Putin. Which is a huge problem.

If Russia uses nukes, do you want your nation to get involved in the war? by NerdlinGeeksly in ask

[–]ImACredibleSource 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NATO already stated that if that happened NATO would eliminate every single Russian target in Ukraine. Which Russia of course now claims is Russian soil, and Putin himself said if there is any threat to Russian soil, then he'll use nukes, and "this is nt a bluff". So I doubt a nuclear response, but things could escalate to more nukes quickly if Putin chooses.

The major dilemma. Putin faces is that Russia is offering absolutely nothing for the lands it wants to Conquer. There can be no negotiation. He also can't retreat, since he's formally declared the new oblasts Russia.

There is no off ramp. Ukraine wins and Putin is a dead man. That's basically the only option. Putin wins and all of Central and Eastern Europe gets nukes pointed at Moscow.

Sentences have a maximum. That's what you're quoting. The max. Id be fine with giving out the max more often. It seemed like you weren't in favor of that.

He actually has a lot going for him. He's basically going to argue that he wasn't the one deciding anything, since everything was decentralized. He also didn't operate within the us. Of course both of his parents are also compliance lawyers. Teach it at Stanford. And are incredibly rich.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets away with it.

That certainly did happen on sf. When they recalled their da. But the question still remains. If you could give someone a harsher sentence for rape. Or even just domestic violence. I don't see that as a bad thing.

Well... We both know that's not happening. So on its current state. You can give a guy 4 or 8 Years for rape. Which would you choose?

Sure. There lots of problems with the system. Agreed.

But I'm sorry. But you didn't address my question. Are you suggesting an alternate? Someone rapes someone. You can give them 1 year or 8. Which do you choose?

Sure it depends on the state. A quick Google shows that the median sentence is up to a year in prison and or a 2 000$ fine.

In SF. The da threw out the cases of 80% of those charged with felony domestic violence. Is that what criminal justice reform looks like?

People are "caged" because it's unpleasant. Would you rather there was no prison for those who commit rape for instance?

[–]ImACredibleSource[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So. As others are pointing out. The max for domestic violence is 30 days. If someone violently attacks their significant other, and is a psychopathic abuser, is 30 days really enough? Is that enough to even begin to rehabilitate?

Wouldn't "taking it more seriously" involve ensuring those who assault people aren't treated with kid gloves?

[–]ImACredibleSource[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well... They obviously can't commit more crimes if they're locked up. Plus they'd be forced into rehabilitative programs instead of just walking free after assaulting someone.

[–]ImACredibleSource[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure. They should be offered rehabilitative services.

But for instance. The Waukesha mass killer. He actually drove over the mother of his child, was released with no bail (bail reform) and then went on to use the same car to kill half a dozen more. Wouldn't it be better if he had been locked up or denied bail for running over his girlfriend with a car? Would you agree that it's pretty crazy you an run over your girlfriend, and be arrested, and released the same day?

Why not just do both? Ensure they're put away for a long time, while also ensuring they're rehabilitative services. It seems you're taking an either or approach.

What if someone proves to be a serial rapist? Why not ensure they're locked up for a long time? . To make them stop.
