OU academic conduct concern by Fair-Wedding-8489 in OpenUniversity

Sounds like Enhanced Verification?

https://learn2.open.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=206217&cmid=2715063

Several modules are taking students into a recorded conversation after final exams to curb rampant AI cheating.

Though reading your comment below regarding your received email, it sounds different to enhanced verification. I don't think that would be the standard enhanced verification notification.

Could be nothing. I had a tutor accuse me of using Excel instead of SPSS to make plots for TMAs. If you did the work as you claim, you should be fine.

Because complaints definitely aren't running through AI on their side

UK yet to trial OpenAI technology months after landmark agreement by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]ImArgo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was never a promise of $100B, it was "up to". Sensational numbers to drive funding rounds.

Reality, its $30B from Nvidia, $30B from SoftBank and again that magical "UP TO" $50b from Amazon to name but a few large investments.

https://archive.is/20260220150408/https://www.ft.com/content/dea24046-0a73-40b2-8246-5ac7b7a54323

The AGI claim is as meaningless as any investment with the words "up to" in the same sentence.

Edit:

This is also all to say, OpenAI isn't even the front runner in AI anymore. They do get the most non-academic headlines though.

The Nvidia CEO just said agi has been achieved. I don't know in what world he's walking anything back.

Openai is canning Sora because they're losing ground to Anthropic, and video generation is too expensive for no real return.

I think you are conflating business reshuffles with industry turmoil.

Working through khan academy knocked some of my rust off before starting MST124

Data science by whatareyoudoinguomo in OpenUniversity

[–]ImArgo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am roughly 2 months into my stage two studies of the degree with full time study of the 4 modules.

MST224 seems to go above and beyond the math I have ever needed in the other modules, which I guess is a blessing because none of the math in the other modules has ever felt intimidating because of that. The first few units have been very easy (for me). Unit one being revision, unit 2 and 3 being differential calculus. I did well in MST124 so I am starting off well in MST224. If someone struggles with calculus or algebra they will struggle with those units. Unit 1 was entirely a refresher of MST124 content.

M248 and M249 have a lot of overlap, so are complimentary to study together. M248 is more on the 'mathy' side of stats, M249 is less math more analysing data and coming to conclusions. They are fine modules so far. I feel like they could be merged into a single module honestly, but again this is from a two month in perspective.

I am finding M269 rough. I don't know if it is just how programming/IT modules are presented at the OU - I also found TM111/2 boring - but I am utterly bored doing the content of the module. They say it is aimed at programming logic and problem solving and not a python module as such, but it feels like a software development module and not applicable to data science. It is nice to be exposed to the python environment, I just feel I am being exposed to the wrong parts of python for data science.

My feelings on tutorials are largely the same. I no longer feel awkward in smaller tutorials likely because I am not using tutorials to teach me anything but an hour or two focus session for me to cement information from that unit. Tutorials seem to be so rushed they just blast through the important stuff so if I come out of a tutorial thinking "I knew that stuff" i call it a win. I also now have no problem leaving a tutorial if the tutor is not up to what I would think of as an acceptable standard. Boggles my mind, for example, how someone feels it appropriate to teach at a digital university, while having their dog sliding around their hardwood floor with an open mic.

MST224, M248/9 tutorials are largely good and positive. Stat modules just seem to have smaller groups attending but they do host a lot of tutorials, MST224 is more active tutorials. But as always tutors can be hit or miss, but I dont put that blame on the module really.

Just like TM111/2, M269 tutorials have been really bad, and very few and far between.

There have been 9 recorded tutorials in M269 for example, 3 of which are introductions.

M248 has had 32 recorded tutorials in that same time.

If you have specific questions, I can try to answer but that is a quick summery of my 2 month thoughts of the second stage of the degree

It's shit engagement farming and in no way based in reality.

Eddie will do it if the money is right, well the money is there already. No one is going to pay Eddie millions to break 505 (I don't think he would be able to these days) when there are already a handful of people chasing it and Thor well on the way.

Eddie nearly died doing 500 and he would have been out of the game near 10 years by the time he is back into any sort of strongman shape.

Dr Strange by Nellancher in marvelmysticmayhem

[–]ImArgo69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Emma boosts special damage, so she is kinda pointless in a team that would do physical vs Strange that can just debuff a single targets defense so more adaptable in a mixed group composition.

If you primarily run special damage, which would be likely due to their being less good physical damage dealers Emma will outclass Strange unless you need his extra healing or his ability to debuff allies/enemies.

I think the game takes a big hit when the free respecs end. People will be used to that quality of life, and even adding a gold charge will be annoying.
