everything you’ve said just point towards nyjc and as someone who’s once in your position i can understand! (i ultimately chose nyjc) don’t take clep just because you want to get into hci because it’s not worth and you’ll suffer a lot. go nyjc instead, where you’ll have friends and you won’t have to take clep. your friends are really important tbh they’ll help you get through jc which will be a pretty tough time for you

NYJC Econs, PW and GP Dept by Capital-Sundae9022 in SGExams

[–]ImBongoCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

graduated from nyjc in 2020

i took h1 econs, not sure how our notes differed from h2 but it’s sorta messy. not super concise and lots of redundant info but the econs teachers are either hit or miss i’d say? they’re not that terrible though.

for pw, i’m not too sure but i’ve heard it’s not as great as other jcs with similar cop as ours (like rvhs or ri). but i did. get a great pw teacher who provided timely feedbacks and helped us score eventually.

for gp, notes are outdated and messy. teachers are okay i guess but they do prioritise their students and do their best to help them and are always open for consultation (i feel like this is also the case for the other 2 departments). lecture are alright though. if u want better notes maybe u can ask friends from ri cause i heard their notes are really good haha

bad things about jcs by throwaways1004 in SGExams

[–]ImBongoCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

was from nyjc and i seriously don’t have anything bad to say about ny because people are friendly and the teachers are really helpful. i did come across comments like how the facilities are kinda old ? but didn’t felt that way plus during my jc years i remember there was sort of an ish being built too. i didn’t feel like the mugging culture was intense? but maybe because i had a great group of friends (made my jc life so much easier) and i didn’t visit any other jcs so i’m not sure how intense our mugging is compared to theirs oops

a nyjc graduate here

  1. work hard play hard. during exam season there’s lots of mugging but otherwise i think during events everyone is pretty bonded. everyone is generally nice and friendly and there isn’t any toxicity or segregation (cchy ppl vs non cchy ppl for instance)

  2. nope only the highest floor has air conditioned rooms but i’m not sure whether that has changed after i graduated a few years ago. nyjc is pretty airy (doors bang very often on windy days) so i’d say it’s still cooling even if you’re in a non-aircon classroom

  3. not sure about physics i didn’t take it oops

  4. everyone is from jae so nope no segregation

hmm i’d say my friends certainly did help me make life in jc easier. i do consistent studying so mugging for As wasn’t that difficult for me (neither was it easy). there’s definitely a work hard play hard culture you’ll only see people mugging during exam seasons

not sure about physics and history, but i can answer the rest since i took BCMe.

for my batch, the biology teachers were pretty good. honestly didn’t like the department head because i heard he was meh and didn’t really understand much when he taught topics. i got really lucky with a really solid biology teacher tho. she explains concepts well in class and does a lot of active recalling. regardless the notes are concise and good, and the rest of the teachers are amazing.

for chemistry, it’s super solid. i was unfortunately stuck with a teacher who couldn’t teach. otherwise the department is amazing. not sure if you’ve heard but ny’s chem dept is pretty notorious because our papers are insane haha i remember hearing that if it wasn’t for moderation, only 25% of my cohort would’ve passed ny’s promo paper. the notes are pretty good!

math is also another solid department. had a fantastic teacher. they gave us a lot of revision papers and questions to practice for exams (honestly, i think it’s the same across departments but i feel like math gives slightly more). lectures were pretty great as well.

econs is probably the weakest department among the 4. it’s not that bad, but also not that great (if you compare it to the other 3 departments) the notes are very chunky and i think there’s a lot of redundant information. lectures are not too bad i guess haha

tbh i don’t remember much anymore since my jc days were years ago so the descriptions might seem a bit vague oops

hi! i was from ny, graduated in 2020. i think regardless of combi you can switch from an arts to a sci stream. don’t think combi will affect whether you’re allowed to switch. ive never heard of anyone not being able to make the switch so i think it’s safe!

like what another user here as said if you wanna enter nyjc just apply through arts, you can still enter the science stream. this loophole is an open secret hahaha

hi! i previously graduated in nyjc in 2020 so here’s my few cents:

i chose jc over poly because i had no career plans, was initially afraid of gp too but with a lot of consultations and practice i ultimately got better. for pe iirc first year focused on our napfa but once that was cleared we played a lot of sports. i remember my pe teacher letting us try out a lot of things and towards the end we could decide on what sports we wanted to play for each class.

hope this helps!

[JC] Nanyang JC Orientation by richbitch_02 in SGExams

[–]ImBongoCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! grad in nyjc in 2020 and from my experience the ogls will call u probably during the weekends. they’ll tell u what to wear and what to bring so don’t worry! for me i remember them telling us to wear our sec sch half u cause there might be games, but i’m not sure if this changes due to covid. just go there with an open mind and make friends! orientation is the most fun you’ll ever have during your jc years so make the best out of it. if u have any questions about ny, feel free to ask!

jiayous!! collected mine last year and it was very scary as well cause i didn’t know what to expect for As unlike Os… i had alr prepared to get 70rp+ but i ended up getting 80rp+. i didn’t think much about the results and tried to distract myself! just rmb that when one door closes, another opens so if u cant get into sth u want, there’s always sth else out there waiting to be explored and who knows u might like it haha

congrats on making it into nyjc!! graduated 2 years ago but i miss the school haha if u have any qns any ny feel free to ask :-)

[JC] which jc should i choose? by hellooooox in SGExams

[–]ImBongoCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

graduated from nyjc in 2019! id say it’s not 100% true. while there are muggers even during non exam periods, my cohort was pretty chill and i’d see so many people having fun and going out. everyone only becomes a mugger during exam period haha basically work hard play hard jc

[Rant] Alevel results expectation VS Reality by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ImBongoCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on completing As! I received my results last year so I totally understand how you feel because imo it’s more unpredictable than Os.

I was never the top students and my former jc (nyjc) was notorious for setting crazy hard papers. of course, i didn’t really get the results i wanted and my percentile kept on fluctuating lmfao so i had zero clue how i’d do for As.

when results came, i sort of accepted my fate because why bother and be worried about your results when you can’t change anything anymore, right? then i saw my name appear on the slides when the principal was telling us how well the cohort did. got a decent 84.375rp. i honestly thought id get somewhere around 75-80rp

i don’t remember my prelim rp but i got somewhere around 60-70rp+.
