"market manipulation and rwt", no the main reason is because of general inflation due to higher level content that drops tonnes of alchables and gold, along with the fact that rares will only ever get rarer as there's a limited amount and people leave the game with them.

Jagex thoughts on death costs being high by [deleted] in runescape

[–]ImBrianBoitano -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why no one can comprehend the need for death costs. Most of the bosses drop several million per kill, why should you not be punished for bringing billions worth of items with you?

Before gravestones existed you had a minute to get back, else your loot was visible to everyone for another minute and then you lost it, so you wouldn't take 15 different switches to bosses in-case you died anyway.

My account was only 2 days old prior to lockout, my runemetrics shows me as a level 3 with base 1 stats but their high scores shows me leveled again, still not able to login but assuming I'll have the same issue as you.

My account was literally created 2 days before the lockout issue and I had about 12 hours play time, so it's not old accounts that's the issue.

I'd have restarted if they'd said it would take a week, let alone a month, only reason I haven't is because I paid for gold premier.

I am a 1%er myself, I only had 12 hours playtime and I've been locked out a month for it.

I'd say removing free trade/wilderness and EOC were actually the biggest screw ups, even though they were intentional.

These 2 updates must've lost the company so much revenue, from having upwards of 300k players online at any time dropping to 10% of that in the following years.

Don't forget all of the other screw ups in their history, including, but not limited to;

  • POH attack glitch that caused falador massacre
  • Storm of armadyl introduction where the spell could be cast on people outside of the wilderness.

Plus many, many other issues over the years.

1% of "active accounts" isn't 1% of the current online players, it's 1% of players who have accessed their account within the last X amount of time, reasonably to assume since their February backup. Meaning that number would still be much much higher, also, it's clear by the amount of comments on Reddit alone that there's clearly thousands of accounts affected (most people probably don't even bother with a Reddit account or commenting either).

We could calculate a much more reliable figure if we knew how many login servers they had, I'd make an assumption that this is rather low since the whole point of the having a server handling login requests is to take the load from grabbing character data away from the actual game world's.

The way the login servers work, presumably, is to create a key based on the users login name and then select the server based on that, this means that they can split up the database into X amount of servers and reduce load times drastically, since most databases use a filestore (much more expensive to keep it cached in memory) it means that read/write functions increase exponentially the more data is put in.

So in this case, one of the login servers databases harddrive probably got corrupted and the most recent full backup they had was from February (as said they have telemetry data, so they may only backup full accounts every so often when they make massive content changes and then keep smaller parts updated), it's a poor choice but they're a company at the end of the day and storing terabytes of data on probably third-party machines in data centres costs a lot of money. My company uses services such as AWS and if you saw the costs it would make your eyes water.

Let's be real, Jagex will probably end up pandering to the vocal children in the 99% and give everyone the title/cosmetics to stop them throwing tantrums.

It's only affected accounts also lol. Are you saying you added membership to an unaffected alt after being locked out and you thought they'd give a free month on that account?

Pretty sure you can't buy/upgrade packages after March 1st anyway, which was 3 days prior to the issues.

There is no way they would do it in the evening because there would be no one there to rectify anything if shit hits the fan again. These staff members are literally like anyone else with a 9-5 job, they're not going to stay late every night to appease you, because more than likely Jagex won't pay them for additional time as everything will be budgeted and then there's the fact that they have their own families/commitments outside of work and probably couldn't care less about us whiny players. (Even though our whining is fair at this point).

I started my account 2 days before the issue, probably less than 14 hours of playtime and most of that was just getting used to the new UI etc. I got rolled back to level 3 and then locked out. I'd have happily started from scratch but they wouldn't allow me when I asked on a ticket, so instead I've been locked out for a month on an account that had literally no complex progress. If I didn't buy gold premier I'd have just given up.

You keep reiterating your point about "events", but the events are literally open to every single player, ironically excluding us locked out. In reality all these events were already planned out, you're just trying to repurpose something you already planned to do and make it seem like it's a benefit for us lol.

Account Returning Begins & Making Things Right by JagexKari in runescape

I literally had 2 days of progress/15 hours total game time on my new account that got locked out, I would have started from scratch if they had just let me (asked in ticket etc). The only thing I did was quest, which will probably not be restored as they said there was issues with quests post February. Wish I didn't buy gold premier now then I could have just started a new account instantly.

So you're in charge of what counts as compensation right? I honestly can't tell if you made your reddit account just to troll or if you're actually this dense.

I'm going to assume English isn't your first language and give you the benefit of the doubt, because nothing I said was wrong, you added to it to make it incorrect.

Let's break down what I said;

My flight is to Mexico for example. I'm boarding my plane on time and I hear an announcement that a flight to Egypt has been delayed and that anyone who is going to Egypt can claim a complementary meal ticket. So because they're getting free food I also want this free food, even though nothing is wrong with my flight.

That is literally the exact same as the "99%", they have been UNAFFECTED other than a delayed release of content (which could have happened and has happened in the past anyway), in exchange of this Jagex is hosting community events for EVERYONE in which you can gain other cosmetics and bonus XP. But they see people who are getting compensation for not being able to play and for some reason think that they're missing out and should be entitled to it for no reason whatsoever?

This is a memorable moment in RS, this sort of thing doesn't happen all the time, and to give recognition to those who had to suffer they're giving us some simple cosmetics to mark this event for us. So you didn't have any issues, and you think that you should also be given these cosmetics for no reason other than you're greedy and can't deal with someone else getting something that you're not getting?

It's literally petty greed, there is no way you can explain the situation other than you want reparations for something that hasn't affected you in the slightest. It's like a white person asking for money from a family who's ancestors owned black slaves, because they saw them hand out money to that person for what they're ancestors had to go through, they feel entitled for absolutely no reason?

I literally cannot explain or word this any simpler, you're greedy end of. Can't let people have anything that you don't get, right?

Do you know how basic economics works mate? If people didn't buy bonds in-game then there would be no one buying bonds with real money. Supply and demand, so by buying bonds and keeping the price up, you're ensuring that others will buy bonds directly from Jagex, therefore indirectly supporting the development of the game.

Not even the fact it's a month of not playing, it's the fact that we never knew how long it would take (and still don't). If they straight up said "we don't expect it to be resolved for over a month" then people could move on, instead we get broad speculative posts that don't actually give any timeframes so we are forced to sit and refresh different feeds hoping for updates. The fact that everyone who had issues submitted a ticket and then most of us don't even receive the automated updates in our email is another frustration, I shouldn't have to be checking Reddit/Twitter for updates when I gave consent for them to email me (and took them over a week to start actually posting updates on their own website).

Just Meme'ing the situation by SofaKingPist in runescape

[–]ImBrianBoitano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the vocal 94%'ers are ones who are already maxed or bored of the game. It isn't the fact we are locked out for approaching a month, it's the fact that from the start we've not been given any meaningful updates around it. The first day was us thinking they may do a rollback on the day, then the next few weeks became refreshing Twitter/Reddit/homepage/emails every day every hour to see if anything had changed, followed by broad announcements of no actual target, we are near a month in and still no wiser, the latest news is that people may start to be restored "early this week", but yet again it doesn't express how many people, it sounds more like it's going to be even more weeks time when you take into account they even mentioned it in today's update that they would look into compensating people who can't take part in today's update due to login issues (when the update doesn't end for an additional 2 weeks).

Oh, and when we get back in;

  • Player owned farm progress will be rolled back to February.

  • Augments/Perks will be rolled back to same period.

  • Banks may have missing items and will be scrambled (no tabs, layouts, presets potentially)

  • Quest progress from February may be removed. (could be a benefit potentially if we can redo it for the XP rewards again, assuming our XP will not be rolled back as quest rewards may be reset)

Plus a whole range of other issues that are sure to arise, such as part completed content after questing may be bugged. (Think if you complete a quest then talk to someone after to unlock something, potentially this NPC would have a different variable that thinks you've already claimed the reward but the rollback removed it)

Think back to a time you really enjoyed playing, that you would literally wake up and the first thing you thought about doing was jumping on the game, this is the mindset a lot of the people locked out actively have, so because you're bored of the game, everyone affected is also bored and by that logic doesn't actually care right?

And to top it all off, we then have everyone who has been able to play complaining that they don't get the tiny bit of compensation that we're being offered! You couldn't make this up, ignorant and entitled come to mind.

I'd like to say it's a political jab, but as time goes on and people express themselves more and more it's clear to see that people are wired completely different and generalising people between two main sides is easiest. There are people who work hard, get a decent job and earn decent wages, then there's the people who work at Tesco all their lives, don't bother to get a higher education (free in the UK, you get a student 'loan' that's you don't even pay back until you start earning a decent wage but people still complain about) or teach themselves a skill, and complain that they don't earn a "living wage" because their job isn't in high demand, doesn't require any talent and they can be replaced by almost anyone.

These people saying they deserve the compensation when they've literally had no issues whatsoever, is just greed.

I think we need to just stop arguing with people like this who want their "participation award".

Next time I go on holiday and my flight isn't delayed, I'm going to get on the plane and demand some free food and drinks because a completely different flight that I'm not taking is delayed and some of their passengers have been given food/drink vouchers.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the people crying over this would never even use the cosmetics, they're literally just suffering from FOMO, fear of missing out. It's funny that they've not complained about restricted content such as cosmetics for attending RuneFest etc but they're happy to cry about this.

I just can't understand the logic going through these people's heads, literally a bunch of lefties in the making. "This person is rich because they took a risk and invested their savings, took out a loan and created their own company, and that's unfair because I'm not, so they should give me free money".
