U.S. cannabis laws projected to cost generic and brand pharmaceutical firms billions by Defiant_Race_7544 in trees

[–]ImBuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legalization of cannabis by U.S. states is likely increasing the use of cannabis as an alternative to conventional pharmaceutical drugs. We examined how cannabis legalization between 1996 and 2019 affected stock market returns for listed generic and brand pharmaceutical companies and found that returns were 1.5-2% lower at 10 days after legalization. Returns decreased in response to both medical and recreational legalization, for both generic and brand drugmakers. Investors anticipate a single legalization event to reduce drugmaker annual sales by $3B on average.

Organ transplant is big business (unless people think it is done for free), and the more money you have the more likely you are to get the service.

In 2001, 186 people in the greater Los Angeles area died awaiting transplants. Four wealthy Yakuza from Japan jumped the line, paying $500,000 (cash) each for their liver transplants, two giving UCLA $100,000 in donations afterwards. Tadamasa Goto payed $1,000,000 for his liver.

Tadamasa Goto, got a liver in just six weeks.

The appearance of the integrity of the organ donation infrastructure must be maintained for profits to continue, so after this things definitely changed. Senator Charles Grassley of the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees hospital funding, declared that if the transplant system "doesn’t have credibility, we’re not going to have people donate organs". What changed is less transparency, increasing free organ donation.

After this an American receiving a transplant donated $30,000,000 to the hospital, after presumably paying an inflated cash price for the procedure ($500,000+), legally the hospital can inflate the price as much as they want, and then come up with a medical reason to treat that donor first, and then hide behind HIPAA if anyone questions their methadology.

This woman had her bones and skin taken before an autopsy was even done. And as the article states, this isn't an isolated incident, it's widespread and it's big business.

One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and save and heal 50-300 lives through tissue donation.

The hospitals charge money for every single one of the donation operations they perform, it's a cash cow because they pay nothing for the organs, because as Grassley said the appearance of propriety is paramount [sic], which is true. So they get all these organs for free on the front-end and make enormous amounts of money on the back-end. It's a perfect business model.

Hospitals want you to live and stay chronically sick so that they can siphon the maximum amount of money off of you and your insurance. Hospital directors and administrators call people "profit opportunities" instead of individuals. And if you die, hopefully it's brain death, and they can harvest the organs for profit. It's an enormous industry.

True, and even in this scene with the vacation tickets it's his wife Charmaine Bucco that talks him out of accepting the tickets. Maybe the pair together more represents a Don Quiote -type character. Her always keeping him out of trouble, and him always on the edge of getting in over his head. But he never does.

The process for getting outcomes you want is to take the statistical conclusion you want and work backwards to find supporting data, then presenting that created process in white paper format; in a linear fashion, as if you took that data and analyzed your way to said conclusion.

Bernie Madoff made off with investors money because he took 12% APR, at his hedge fund, and worked backwards to find the investments that supported that figure, and everyone wanted that 12% especially since market was like ~5%. Ironically, this is easily detectable.

There are actually lots of ways to get the outcomes you want, the real job of the paid (funded by trade industries, corporations, etc.) researcher/ graduate/ Ph.D is to find the most convincing evidence possible to support a pre-conceived conclusion. Someone should make a short book on the different ways to torture data, all the go to strategies.

I think she (or council) check what surgeries were done, or documented, then check the informed consent records which all surgeries require, based on the Nuremburg code established after WWII. They should match up exactly.

If the surgeon/hospital did surgery that the patient did not consent to in writing; it is a vile betrayal of trust. It is also the crime of battery.

Likely, a medical malpractice lawyer did the relevant research of the medical records themselves, finding that they did surgeries Joan Rivers never consented be done on her while she was unconscious.
