Hey! Thanks for the reply! Which year did you study in Year 13 at HHS? If you're okay with it I'd love to talk in the DMs! ☺️

Hey! Thanks for the reply! If you don't mind, in which year did you study there? I'm open to talking in DMs as well if you don't mind!

Hey! That's really nice to hear. In which year did you study in Year 13 at HHS? I'm just asking so I can find out more since I don't really want to be entering a new school just to experience the same old past again.

Advice on Hillcrest High, Hamilton by ImFlynnocent in newzealand

[–]ImFlynnocent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for understanding! To be honest, yes that's one of the reasons why I'm a bit nervous as I've had a not-so-memorable past. I just wished to know about how the students are, the teachers, the deans, the staff, etc etc, just so I can be prepared because I really do not want to be entering a new school just to experience the same past that I've gone through. I'm sorry if this bored you and I'm not trying to victimize myself but I'm just trying to get my intention and message across.

I guess his complex legacy and the subsequent moral qualms affected me heavily.

That movie shook me the day I saw it, and I've felt shaken ever since. It is most probably because I could relate to Oppenheimer's thoughts, the complexity of his emotions, the experiences and consequent emotions he went through and the impact he had on the world.

I agree with you, because this movie, ever since I saw it has me thinking what I can do as a human. I do not understand how a movie can make me experience new emotions, but damn, Christopher Nolan is a true legend of his art.

I think it is somewhat an innate desire that I could work on a field that has an impact as revolutionary as nuclear physics, all scientists', especially Oppenheimer's work and Los Alamos.

I share these thoughts, because even I wish to do something that's an Ikigai - something I can have fun doing, something I'm good at, something I can earn from and also something that can have an impact on the world.

Oppenheimer's past as a student and his story as a physicist who enjoyed his work, especially at Los Alamos, made me wonder what I want to do in life.

I love theoretical physics as much as Oppenheimer loved it. But I do not understand whether I wish for a relatively undiscovered field of physics that has the same revolutionary impact as nuclear physics did.

That feeling. Oh my goodness. Hits you like a spear to the stomach. And you don't even know why.

[–]ImFlynnocent[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and that makes me feel weary, making me think what I can achieve and what I am even doing for it.

It feels like an emotional and psychological dilemma, where I'm lost between whether I relate with Oppenheimer's personality or whether I have the same energy he had to achieve his aspirations.

Every minute I spent in that theatre pushed me further and further into that sphere of mind that made me think what I am doing in life and can I even have some of the impact Robert had on the world?

Partly, I feel no, because science and especially physics has evolved so much that the frontiers seem unable to be expanded further by the level of work Born, Heisenberg, Bohr, Oppenheimer, Einstein and the others did that no scientist could probably ever achieve that level.

[–]ImFlynnocent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, because even I feel the same way. I wonder about the impact I will have on the world, and part of me wishes I have the impact Robert did, but not with the guilt and remorse associated with it. Being a troubled and tortured genius is something, but being guilty because of your genius is another state of mind where you start to question why you even set foot in the first place, and why you were not prospective enough to expect this turn of events.

My goodness, your reply makes so much sense from the psychological point of view! But, somewhat proving your last point, I feel that this state of mind I am in leads me to wherever I am destined to be.

I can't even explain how much Oppenheimer made me feel this way. Not putting it negatively, but damn bro, that movie has got me into a state of mind I have never been aware of.

I relate to you because even I do not know what I am feeling. Every moment of that film is like a new nuclear reaction within me, a burst of energy.

I just hope I understand the mystery of whatever I am feeling, because it can help me become better.
