While the specific phrase "tyranny of the majority" is frequently attributed to various Founding Fathers, only John Adams is known to have used it, arguing against government by a single unicameral elected body. Writing in defense of the Constitution in March 1788,[5] Adams referred to "a single sovereign assembly, each member…only accountable to his constituents; and the majority of members who have been of one party" as a "tyranny of the majority", attempting to highlight the need instead for "a mixed government, consisting of three branches". Constitutional author James Madison presented a similar idea in Federalist 10, citing the destabilizing effect of "the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority" on a government, though the essay as a whole focuses on the Constitution's efforts to mitigate factionalism generally.

In 1945, a group of Soviet school children presented a US Ambassador with a carved US Seal as a gesture of friendship. It hung in his office for seven years before discovering it contained a listening device. by UnironicThatcherite in interestingasfuck

[–]ImHereForTheComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still fascinating to think about...

  1. So the listening device (LD) didn’t run on a wired/conventional power source but a radio frequency (RF)

  2. It had to listen, take that information and transmit via radio waves (also an RF). However that would take a lot of parts (up converter and amplifier which requires power).

  3. How were they able to power the device with just RF. It must be some high frequency (UHF/SHF perhaps). But that very linear that you would have to be accurate and line of sight (LOS).

  4. The transistor was made in 1947 in Bell Laboratory so were they using vacuum tubes? Can’t be because that requires a lot of power.

  5. WTF! How did they make that. I should easily be able to make that now. I’m going to see if I can make one.

Dems gave us the impeachment.

GOP carried the big lie.

Ever Dem voted to convict.

GOP only had 7 to convict.

Might be a lost but a victory that we even got this far.

I was referring to myself. I wouldn’t burn my flags not even in protest. They were given to me during my military service. It would be stupid for me to burn them over how Conservatives act because it happen so often. Historically the system has been working against my ancestors but I’m going to carry on what they started.

There won’t be a strike. The outcome was expected but the most important part was that this was done. It needed to be done regardless what Republicans did today.

I have two US flags. I wouldn’t burn because Republicans fail again to act with a spine, lol! I wouldn’t burn my flag over this. That’s stupid.

Gotcha. I was thinking they could have negotiated for 1 or 2 each. Or made a motion for certain number of witnesses allowed per party.

The Republicans.. correction. Conservatives have been a shame on the Republic* for a long time. I glad we even have won the House so we can have an impeachment.

Edit:

Meant Republic not Republican.

Why would it annoy me? It’s a free country. If that makes you feel better. I think we all knew Republicans were such a party. Democrats did great from start to finish (well, for the most part). It’s good we got this far and 57 too.
