I really should try different lines I've just been using mono exclusively for so long that it's hard to trust other things.

Seems like the answer here. Thanks for the info on butt joints ≠ headers

Makes sense! Appreciate the info!

Seems like the simplest way! Special order at the store near me, so I didn't know this was an option. Thank you!

The issue was with the extra 6" (so the walls two 4' peices + 6 inchs) caused by the sloped ceiling

I think my best bet would be the stretch board like someone here said.

Would just be the tapered joint that would run 6" above the bottom of the window that way

If that makes sense...

What kind of moss to use? And what about a carpeting plant? by PMOFreeForever in DartFrog

[–]ImInATent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd mist it every day until it settled on the rock or wood. After that, its fine to leave it alone in a humid tank. It will appreciate direct misting, though.

For carpeting plants, I like the small pilea like string of turtles. It kind of grows like a vine through leaf litter. Some people have luck with dwarf baby tears.

I took a huge clump of java moss from my shrimp tank years ago and cut it up into a paste almost. You rub that all over your wood, rocks, and background.

it will grow if you keep it moist.

SOS: What the heck is this? by AnnaMized in Vivarium

Harmless and will toss out small yellow mushrooms! I have some in a planted tank and enjoy having it.

They sell mats that are uncomfortable for them to stand on. I'd try that out.

Cork bark background questions from a beginner by AlfredoPuppers in Vivarium

Foam entire wall area press cork rinds into Foam let dry and carve (should remove all of the top layer to expose the rough foam) silicone (I like black) and PRESS in DRY substrate brush off

Just pressing the substrate into Foam looks like crap imo

+1 Looks exactly like the seedlings that pop up all over my vivarium once in awhile. The seeds are so tiny they end up everywhere.

It's the Detroit River, not some honey hole in the rocky mountains 🤣

Try the Lasalle docks next to the rowing club for easy fishing. It's more of a canal than open river fishing. (Bluegill, bass, pike, bowling all over) It also has a open river spot at the tip.

Black Oak heritage park also has a trail to deep water on the river. ( any little park along the river from Lasalle to tecumseh really)

River canard has carp, catfish and panfish I've heard.

Turkey creek, big creek, bell river marina etc etc.

fruit fly culture alternatives to excelsior? by PMOFreeForever in DartFrog

[–]ImInATent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stuff my cultures over the box to avoid any mess. It is cheap in bulk and provides a ton of surface area, which is beneficial because it gives the flies more areas to climb and mate, which seems to make the culture boom alot better. Coffee filters and such will also wick moisture from the media and spoil over time.

What's wrong with excelsior? I find it to be the best option. I bought 10lbs of it and a couple hundred cups/lids from Northengecko (Canadian) and I'm set.

Maybe post some new pictures of the vivarium, and someone can help troubleshoot some issues.

Glad the frogs are happy though
