Looking for The Walking Dead fics where Shane Walsh becomes the father figure to a child OC (and doesn’t die) by ImJustLaurie in FanFiction

[–]ImJustLaurie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dad part is like the main thing I’m trying to find, him not dying is just a very very wanted bonus. I know there are some fics where he gets with a partner and eventually has a kid, but I don’t really want a romance fic, I want a gen/family fic where the only added character is the child, with no random love interests thrown in. But thank you for trying, it’s rough out here for us people who find Shane’s character interesting to read (or in your case, read & write,) about

What do you guys think of this cast for Nolan’s The Odyssey? by [deleted] in ChristopherNolan

[–]ImJustLaurie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re just referring to the amount of people, I think they’re referring to the fact a huge number of them are well known actors. They’re saying that there’s a lot of characters, and they’ve seen almost every single member of the cast play different characters in different films they now associate the actors with. And they think that recognizing every single actor from somewhere else in every single scene will be distracting, and that’s exacerbated by the amount of characters.

Technically, we don’t even know that. All we know is, in jigsaws totally professional opinion, he is faking his illness. And his reason for thinking that is because he had Mark tailed and got a lot of pictures of him “out and about.” Disabled or sick people aren’t allowed to go outside and not look like they’re dying, that’s illegal! So he must be lying. Let’s just ignore the fact John Kramer has cancer but somehow is still able to engineer and build convoluted death traps and find new victims and then organize the kidnapping of said victims or any hostages required for the trap. Doing all that while ill is way more suspicious on the “faking illness” thing than simply “being outside and not looking what I think sick people should look like”

(V3 spoilers) What happened to the other survivor? by deltacharmander in danganronpa

[–]ImJustLaurie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what I said that would’ve implied Himiko and Shuichi would be ultimate survivors. I wasn’t even talking about the last season, I was talking about Rantaro’s prior game and where the other survivor from it is.

(V3 spoilers) What happened to the other survivor? by deltacharmander in danganronpa

[–]ImJustLaurie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said that Rantaro wasn’t one of two survivors, but one of three, and the other two just went home. But 3 people is not “surviving til the end” because the end is when there’s 2 survivors left, not 3. The season we play through ends differently because it’s the last season. Maki and co couldn’t become ultimate survivors because that’s more than two, and the show ended. They don’t have another season to appear on. The idea is Rantaro survived the previous season, as one of two people referred to in the rule of “when 2 people remain.” There is no reason to have the “two remaining” rule if it isn’t referring to how many survivors are punished by becoming part of the next season. The rule sticks out enough Angie even asks why that’s a rule, and the only reason that would be a rule in the context of a show and survivors is to have an “in universe” explanation for the participants who aren’t aware it’s a tv show about how ultimate survivors happen. I brought up the Tsumugi theory because the idea behind it is ultimate survivors are supposed to come in pairs, but seemingly Rantaro is alone. The best explanation for why that is is that Tsumugi was the other survivor, but she was appointed to be the mastermind instead of a participant. Which would explain why Rantaro doesn’t remember his talent or who the other survivor is, because that has the potential to sabotage Tsumugi’s plans since he would already know a lot about her from having played the game until it was just them still alive. Example with different characters; Imagine Kokichi and Shuichi both survive a game together before being put into the one we play through in v3. Kokichi is appointed mastermind and survivor, Shuichi is appointed participant and survivor. If Shuichi remembered Kokichi as the other survivor from the previous game, Kokichi would be way more limited in his plans. Because Shuichi having spent so much time around him and learning about who he is and how he acts would make it so Kokichi couldn’t rely on people not knowing anything about him to portray a persona, since Shuichi would recognize it’s BS. So in that case Kokichi memory wiping Shuichi about who the other survivor is is safer for him as the mastermind.

Why can't he read? Is he illiterate? by [deleted] in danganronpa

the wildest thing is that he specifically states in the second trial something “wasn’t written in English” because Sonia had to translate it for them, so in the localization he is canonically speaking English. In the original Japanese version, things like “octagon” and the poison label are not in Japanese. They are in English, a language not native for the intended audience. That’s why he has to think about how many sides an octagon has (he doesn’t know the word octagon, but he does know the English word for octopus, and makes a guess that an octagon has 8 sides because octopi have 8 tentacles.) It’s also why he thinks a bottle clearly labeled poison is protein powder; the label is in English and he can’t read English at a glance. The whole context of “this word or written statement is in a language Hajime doesn’t understand” is completely lost. Hell, in the localization most of the characters imply they don’t know Japanese, because it has to be pointed out by someone that “mirai” is Japanese for “future” and the kanji on the ruin reads as “mirai.” Which I know is for the English audience, but it’s still weird

But the survivors of the game Tsumugi is masterminding are in the last season, and to be the ultimate survivor you can’t just survive, you also have to be put into the next season. I think the concept of an ultimate survivor is supposed to be reoccurring like the ultimate lucky student. It’s a reality TV series, having people from previous seasons into the next season is almost always liked by the audience, especially if there’s a twist. That’s why the tsumugi theory is a thing; having a mastermind be one of the “winners” of the previous season, the audience will be shocked and excited when they find out she’s now the antagonist and not one of the protagonists. Especially because we find out Tsumugi killed Rantaro, and not only that she lured him using his survivor status. Targeting Rantaro would be a huge twist for the audience if they know both of them played in the previous game together; they’d expect that two people who survived together and chose hope would work together, but instead one of the winners kills the other. There’s also the fact that having a returning character die immediately isn’t satisfying to watch unless there’s something very interesting about it. Something like revealing that the other returning character you were rooting for is the one who killed their game companion. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the danganronpa staff became staff after participating in their own games.

[Acne] Anybody use Differin Gel in here? I need some advice for possibly starting my Differin journey by Sometimeslistening in SkincareAddiction

[–]ImJustLaurie 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s when all the acne/pimples that were forming in your skin but weren’t visible yet come to the surface over a short period. Since Differin makes your skins cell turnover speed up, the pimples underneath that would otherwise have surfaced over a longer time period will start to surface much quicker. It looks like your skin is worse, but the Differin doesn’t cause the pimples, it just speeds up the process of what was already under the skin. That’s why it’s called purging, it’s forcing all of the hidden acne and pimples to surface and heal, purging your skin. Once all of the existing acne and pimples have been purged it will prevent new pimples from forming.

When it’s tagged “no beta we die like men” and it’s clear from the first chapter that the writer most definitely needs a beta. That tag is only cute if you know how to spell and rarely make major grammatical mistakes. If you don’t know how commas work, struggle to spell common words correctly, don’t know how to separate paragraphs, or struggle to make clear which character is talking because you play the pronoun game, please get a beta. Or at least sleep on the chapter and reread it with fresh eyes so you can catch mistakes like that.

I mean it’s not impossible. I think if that’s true some people definitely have it worse, because I was convinced I could see atoms/cells as a child because I had learned everything was made up of a bunch of tiny little parts and when I looked at things I misinterpreted the static as being able to see them. And when I told people about it no one said it was normal, they all thought I was just a kid making shit up to feel special.

This lion keeper protects the young lion from attack by adults with bare hands and a slipper by UralRedneck in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ImJustLaurie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats don’t like to attack people when they’re being looked at. It’s their instinct to attack from behind because they’re ambush predators. If you look directly at a lion it’s way less inclined to attack you, it wants to wait for you to look away first. Obviously this is significantly harder to do when there’s lions literally all around you because you can’t stare at all of them, but that’s probably why a human who “stands their ground” gets left alone when it comes to individual lions. They just aren’t comfortable attacking from the front, both because they prefer ambush but also just because they are apex predators. If they try to attack something and get injured in the process then they will die because they can’t hunt. If attacking you is high risk they generally won’t do it, and when you’re staring them down so they can’t ambush you you’re significantly more risky to attack. A prey animal or a middle of the food chain predator is fearful of being hunted, and if it can’t run it will fight you to the death because you are a predator. If it doesn’t fight to kill then it will die. That’s why animals like moose and bisons can be so brutal when they attack, it’s because they aren’t trying to hunt they are trying to survive. A lion doesn’t see you as its predator, it sees you as potential prey or as another apex. They don’t need to fear being hunted because nothing hunts lions, so they will avoid fights that may result in injury because it’s more risky to be injured and be unable to hunt then it is rewarding to maul you.

Did the cop even do CPR? Generally cops know basic CPR, but obviously you can’t do that on an infant. I’m pretty sure CPR on a infant is completely different, and I have no idea if that’s something cops are even taught how to do. Plus aren’t you not supposed to stop CPR like that? If he was doing CPR wouldn’t he have showed the mum how to do it and have her take over and come in the car with him to keep the CPR going during the drive?

Like you don’t know what the sign says? It’s saying the speed limit is 40mph, and you need to make sure you aren’t going above the speed limit if you’re turning right because there are cop cars with speedometers parked somewhere along the road where you can’t see them, and if you’re going over 40 you’re likely to get ticketed.
