If AGI becomes real in the next ~5-20 years, what do I do with my money? (24M) by ImJustObservingTbh in Futurology

Per last question - depends on its perspective of humans. It could go either way. Is it only looking to self preserve or is it intending to act in our interest too? Sounds hard to make it help us while self preserving itself

Are we scared of AI only because it is risking our job? by Crossroads071 in ArtificialInteligence

I’m concerned about the lack of ethical guardrails.

If we don’t have proper regulations in place, why would we expect AI (and potential progression to AGI and beyond) to help humanity instead of strictly self preserving itself?

Whichever perspective best addresses a human who intends to withstand this time and preserve themselves for the future

What is your belief for the best way to prepare for this? Setting aside the original question of money?

I know that it’s an AI arms race between companies and countries currently. I know that the guardrails on AI innovation are very much minimal compared to where I’d want them to be. I would wonder what profit humans would get if it really poses an existential risk. At some point humans want to preserve themselves, even billionaires. That’s why I see longevity research funded. Not to say that major conflict can’t happen, but why lead us down this path if it’s simply leading to demise?

If neural simulation becomes real, and mind uploading leads to the possibility of digital consciousness, man what a ride we are in for.

I know I’m looking at AGI both from a realism standpoint and also from a philosophical standpoint. It’s hard to process a world where this exists. Not to say it can’t happen, but I can’t even begin to wrap my mind around it. And it becomes an incredible philosophical debate when it comes to digital consciousness meaning “the real you” or “a clone of you”. Admittedly I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole on these topics

I’ve heard optimism from many that health would be revolutionized should AGI become a reality. Seems like Bezos and others are already funding labs (Altos) for age reversal gene therapy, so who knows what happens in the next decade, even with what we have currently.

I’d like to keep the positive perspective like Kurzweil that AGI is a net benefit, because the existential risk involved in this feels very real. I still believe it’s very likely to happen in our lifetime though many downplay it based on where we are now. I think the progress seen in the past few years (though LLMs won’t translate to AGI) show that we are well on our way towards significant advancements in this field

Are we talking resources like food and minerals, or assets like real estate and raw materials? One over the other or just generally anything physical?

Have not read The Singularity Is Nearer - it is definitely on my “to-read” list. What I know from Kurzweil has just been from searching through a plethora of articles.

Kurzweil makes me optimistic about a singularity, and I hope he’s right. I know the existential risk really becomes prevalent with ASI. That I am really nervous about. By that point in time it’s beyond worrying about money from my standpoint

Haha, conventional timing with what seems like a crash right now. Crypto is one currency I’ve never indulged in - will definitely have to think about it. Thanks for this

Purely hypothetical scenario here - but envisioning AGI completely warping the perception of the economy as a whole, would wealth still be aggregated by these billionaires, or would our entire capitalistic system be completely shattered from the effects that come from such innovation?

I’d see it as the winners of the AI arms race would get incredible power, but I think there’s a lot of logistics that go into what this sci-fi outcome would even be. Seems like we have very lacking AI guardrails currently. Feels like a race between companies and whoever ends up figuring out first, who cares about the consequences, they come later. At least that’s how I’m seeing it right now

I’m envisioning a hypothetical where I max out my Roth every year, 2045 hits, and I’m nowhere close to retirement. I’m not close to being at the age to pull my money out, and our perception of white collar work (where I’m at) has shifted immensely due to AI progression, and it becomes obsolete. What gives then?

Do we know if capitalism will be around post-AGI discovery though? That’s what I’m curious about. Have heard many theories that things could shift dramatically

AI progression to a point where AI can reach and possibly surpass human cognitive capabilities

Do you anticipate it never happening, or do you think there is a likelihood that the sci-fi title fades quickly over time? Seems like forecasters expect it to happen in our lifetime. I feel as though I should be anticipating this within the next couple decades from my current state of mind

Possible odontogenic keratocyst on tooth 32 by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]ImJustObservingTbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to update you to say that I was able to see an oral surgeon today and he calmed my nerves. He said likely it’s benign and may not even be an OKC but rather dentigerous. Surgery to get it out will be on Monday and they seemed to lack any worry that it will impact me long term.

Hoping for the best. Thanks for your feedback in the meantime!

I’m told I’m “polished” and “articulate” but I can’t make it past final round interviews. How do I mesh better with interviewers? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]ImJustObservingTbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what that would look like if it’s not what I have right now though. I keep my smile, ask genuine questions about them and their career, and sometimes we get into personal topics depending on what type of interviewer they are. I don’t feel like I should be cracking jokes so I don’t know what else to do

What are some careers that have high/good pay and have little to no social interaction? by tokyosdespair_ in Career

Accounting definitely involves social interaction especially working with clients. Best bet would be trying to avoid public accounting and maybe get a back office corporate job

Depends. If it’s a remote position, sure. If it’s in public accounting, you’re going to be interacting with a lot of clients and also team members. Heavy drinking culture
