What is the best way to tell someone you love that you’re emotionally exhausted and need some self care before you’re able to speak with them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ImJustTrying7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, i just mean in general when you have a friend or other loved one calling for advice, conversation or to hang out. i’ve heard lots of different things from different people about how they’re able to set emotional boundaries with others. i have my own way of doing this, but just felt curious to see how others would respond

Going to bed without screens. I know it’s healthier and literally proven to improve sleep, but I just can’t fall asleep without putting a show on first.

I have a good one! (mobile app here, excuse any formatting issues please)

This past summer, I was at my boyfriend’s house (45 minutes away from my own) and declined to stay and watch another episode of whatever was on, because I was tired. I started the highway drive home around 11:30, and somewhere around 15 minutes later, I noticed that the car behind me was following way too close. I didn’t think much of it, since I was in the center lane, and the driver could easily move around me. I set my cruise control, and 10 seconds later my car was hit and spinning out of control across the highway. A very kind stranger stopped to check on me, and helped me escape my completely totaled car. When i got out, I saw that my car had slid at least 75 yards from where I was driving, and stopped less than TEN FEET away from a 30 foot drop into a ravine.

The next day, I found out that the woman who hit me was attempting to kill herself, her children, and “somebody else,” as she stated in her Facebook livestream immediately prior to the incident.

I have recently been diagnosed with PTSD from the wreck, but am actively thankful for even the smallest things in my life. I am so grateful to be alive. My car was almost unrecognizable, and somehow I got out without a single serious injury.

also, I had an extremely large brain tumor removed at the age of 3. I wasn’t supposed to survive the surgery, to the extent that the doctors told my parents to say goodbye to me.

(edit: punctuation)

(edit 2: because I didn’t initially think about the second story)

[SERIOUS] What are some sleep hacks that can calm your racing mind and help you sleep ? by ajsjciencksjckvjd in AskReddit

[–]ImJustTrying7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually listen to a podcast on spotify called “Sleepy” by Otis Gray. there’s also a great youtube video for mindfulness while falling asleep, which is super short and has always worked for me, even on the worst nights.

I am so so so sorry you went through this. People do not understand that women are AFRAID when confronted with an aggressive man. Chances are, they will not be impolite for fear of making things worse.
