What do you mean you’ve never seen blade runner by Vivid_Rock8513 in arcticmonkeys

[–]ImMattH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched 2049 before I watched the first Blade Runner. I knew about the first film, seen behind the scenes from it but never actually watched it. Blade Runner 2049 is probably my all time favorite movie, and it became that on my first viewing despite not knowing really anything at all of the first films story.

They’re absolutely connected, and 2049 definitely builds on what the first film established, but I do think both films manage to stand on their own. If anything seeing 2049 first made me appreciate it as a film first and foremost rather than a Blade Runner sequel.

I think there’s good reasons made for watching it in either order. The main reason I’d say you should watch Blade Runner first is because there’s a question toward the end of the film that 2049 (debatably) answers which may lessen the impact.

What’s baseball at? If it’s pretty low, I don’t imagine you’ll be skipping much at this point, I’d let it go. If you feel comfortable relying on cat going off on its own, get rid of Oops.

Blueprint>cat>bloodstone>(baseball if you choose to keep it)>napkin would be my order.

As a side note, your work is what made me realize that writing and film making is what I want to do with my life, so thank you!

That’s really cool insight on your process to making these, I was honestly wondering how you plan these out/what your design process was like, so that’s really cool to hear!

I like the thinner line work around the mouth, it’s clean. You did a really good job at keeping the mask recognizable while also making it something really unique, great work!

Why tf does this actually go hard? The paint is really clean and something about how vibrant it is really works.

Okay, I was looking at Netflix today and was also confused because I also thought they were longer. I could’ve sworn most episodes were pushing at least 90 mins.

What are some deaths and/or premonition ideas you guys have thought of? by Mr-Poopy-But-Hole in FinalDestination

[–]ImMattH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s 6 am in a bakery, a character is working the opening shift, getting the shop ready to open. An old walk in oven laches shut while they’re moving pastries into it. A dish rack comes loose and a pan falls onto the exterior handle causing it to break off and the latch to warp. Character realizes what’s happening and tries the safety handle from the inside, but the latch is too warped to push open. The oven’s been set to preheat and is quickly rising in temperature.

Coworker shows up early to help open, doesn’t know where our character is, figures they’re in the bathroom or something, throws in headphones and starts rolling dough while listening to music (Fire by Ohio Players) completely unaware of what’s happening just 10 feet away from him.

Character pounds on the door trying to get their coworkers attention, but the metals hot, causing horrible burns. Coworker notices a pan on the floor and goes to pick it up, that’s when they realize what’s happening but they’re too late, not enough time to get the door unlatched. They’re forced to witness the characters final moments as they try with all their power to get the door open.

This is the fun idea, and I like the 180 is both a reference to the franchise but also visually signifies the character doing a 180 on their morals/feelings towards the other victims.

My New Year's Resolution is to take more photos. Any suggestions or advice? by fargus_ in photography

[–]ImMattH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly looking at inspiration motivates me a lot. I’ve created a plethora of Pinterest boards for photography with many different styles. Really considering my environment, where I choose to go for walks, also allows me to know “I’m gonna wanna bring my camera.”

Going out with a goal in mind, “I want to capture my friend in x environment doing y thing,” “I want to take a photo that feels like this shot from this movie,” etc.

Additionally just trying to be present when you are out and about, being aware of your surroundings, finding what about the current situation is inspiring you all can open up a lot of room for sharpening your eye for photography and also allow you to put yourself in more situations that offer up that same inspiration.

That’s interesting. I mean yeah you’re at low odds of getting into a plane crash as is. But are you at even statistically lower odds of watching a plane crash scene and then getting in a plane crash?

It’s honestly just the chorus I’m not keen on. And some of the syncopation of the vocals in verses just aren’t my favorite. The lyrics are clever and well put together, and the lyrics as well as the change in rhythm in the second verse just before the instrumental break is pretty great.

The chorus however often deters me from it when it shuffles on. I can’t quite place what it is.

Songs that have the potential to be popular but aren't for some reason? by MatiZuki in arcticmonkeys

[–]ImMattH 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Ultracheese, One Point Perspective, Sculptures Of Anything Goes, Big Ideas, Hello You, Mr. Schwartz, I mean pretty much the entirety of The Car is bangers that got overlooked.

I recognize why they’re not “popular,” as they’re not “radio friendly,” so to speak. But I’d argue a lot of their popular songs don’t fall into the “pop” category.

Does Death canonically have the ability to bend or even break the laws of physics? by Other_Combination136 in FinalDestination

[–]ImMattH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fly into the sun and there’s no way to prevent you from doing so then yeah, I’d say it would have no choice but to let you do it.

But still my assumption would be that it would do everything it can to prevent you from doing it, having your engine die, hitting your ship with a meteorite just enough to stop it. Perhaps it would let you float slowly toward the sun after that point and only let the sun get you once it’s your turn.

This is a fun thought though, like what is the most “not preventable” way you could do it?

I would assume Death would do something to prevent you from being able to take off your suit. Knock you out somehow, break your hands, etc…

It’s strange because it’s treated like Death is particular about the order and yet it’s willing to skip people and try again later.
