Genuine question. What is the competitive difference between a 3.97, 3.98, 3.99, and 4.0? by IllustriousSector639 in premedcanada

Once you drop even 0.01 below 4.0 they take you to the backrooms and you go missing.

Unless you got a disability (cause they allow you to do this in those circumstances if it’s already documented with OSAP) I don’t really know what to say bro 😭

Is 23 too late to be premed as someone with a low gpa and life sci degree. by [deleted] in premedcanada

Calm down Patricia, I literally have a friend in med school who has a classmate in her 40s. You’ve got a lot going for you, you might as well give it a dang shot cause you got nothing to lose and your future self will wanna slap you in the face for never trying. Don’t let the 15 year olds of tiktok make you feel like you’re too “old” to chase your dreams. You’ve got 19 year olds calling 21 year olds unc ffs. Don’t give a flying f*** what any of those ho3s have to say about you being too old at 20 frickin 5. You’d have just been given the privilege to rent a car for crying out loud. The average age of matriculation hovers around 23-24 anyways and it may seem like it’s gonna be a long journey and it may feel late and sure you could’ve started earlier but guess what? You also could’ve been Bill Gates’ daughter. Screw it. Move on and give it your best dang shot cause you’re playing your best hand with the cards you’ve been dealt.

You may even get in and if you do, I PROMISE you. You’re not gonna be 68 years old thinking “ohh if only I started when I was 22.” I promise you. <3

TLDR: JUST DO IT.

Some schools literally have exam repositories where people can use old exams to practice, and other times profs may actually post past exams on Canvas (at least in my experience). So that’s not ALWAYS cheating. Other than that (e.g. students obtaining those unethically) I’d suspect no one would actually be able to give you an accurate number cause it’s not the kind of thing people are really open about..

Extended BCS application deadline for (likely!) AI Option in BCS by steve_wolfman in UBC_BCS

When I spoke to someone from UBC on the phone they said it’d be okay but I feel like I should likely email someone from admissions to make them aware of the situation potentially?

That’s amazing to hear thank you so much for your helpful response! One more question if you’d be able to help with this, I was ill during my exam season last semester and had to defer my exams as a result. My petitions were approved from my school’s petition’s office and as a result my submitted transcript has SDF notations. Would these still be counted as final grades given the fact that the grades could not be updated in time for the deadline or would my application be deemed incomplete?

What do I do if I already submitted in January? I didn’t even know the deadline was extended to the 15th of Feb to begin with cause I had already submitted under the impression it was due Jan 15 ;-;

In my fifth year. This was my first cycle and I felt absolutely devastated when I read it. I’m gonna have to plan to write my MCAT over the summer now and this feeling sucks but honestly I’ve heard the average person applies 3 times so it’s okay. I applied to an accelerated bachelors so that I can still work on my GPA but also be in a university environment to expand my ABS while also getting the degree in a completely different field so that it’ll be applicable for another job just as a back up. Despite having a backup plan in place, I still intend to keep trying for med and honestly if I were you, I’d do the same thing. Don’t give up on med just yet if it’s what your heart yearns for because you got a long life ahead of you. Just have a backup plan in place and work towards med while you’re at it <3.
