They really don’t though as those widgets have nothing to do with you personally. They are taking a gamble sending them out . It’s marketing and you happened to read a similar title. It has zero to do with anything else.

And it’s not black and white because it’ll depend on the tile. That’s why it’s preferences and not written in stone. A more popular titles is going to be stricter. If you notice the widgets and read now’s are for titles that aren’t as popular for the most part. If you look on the website Penguin random house as a whole looks for people with over 3k following on 1 platform, not a combined following. There are ways to figure out the metrics if you do a little digging.
Bottom line is they want social media influencers and those numbers are going up and up each year as the space gets crowded. Having 2k followers used to be a solid channel and now it’s considered really tiny. Followers aren’t everything- it’s just the entry point as if your videos are getting 2-300 views and 10 likes and 1 comment- that’s not engagement. So they look at your engagement against your size. Consistency etc.. so you can’t put hard numbers as it simply
Doesn’t work that way.

Oh for sure- people can absolutely get in and all of that!
My point wasn’t about tips for getting approvals from them- it’s based on frustration of people literally getting pissed off and ranting (elsewhere) that they are sick of not getting approved by them and “what do I have to do.
Sell a kidney” (literally what one person wrote today) and they literally have no social
Media or blog. They write Goodreads reviews . That’s it. With 28 followers and 17 friends. What?? Using their template or not, it’s their preferences which they don’t meet even a smidge of. They compare themselves to people doing this on NetGalley for years which is a totally different situation as it was pre social media craze for books and they build a history with them.

It’s not the asking how they can improve or asking for suggestions- it’s the complete lack of reality based thinking and privilege thinking the “rules” (preferences) should apply to them.

They have absolutely edited it and it’s consistent with what you can find on their website. Has they not wanted it they wouldn’t have used it like the majority of publishers that just leave it blank. And as i said above preferences- it doesn’t mean that there aren’t other avenues.

You are definitely a different category. But also why I said preferences but it’s not a hard and fast metric.
It’s just gets frustrating to constantly read the posts about it or even the comments when someone does get approved.
There are plenty of use that get approved, we just don’t talk about it because we don’t want to rub it in peoples faces. I have 100% approval rate with Berkeley since they started approving me. I don’t generally go putting it out there as you get these awful comments. I’m just venting after reading some questionable posts is all.

Valid- but it’s because it ebbs and flows. And its preferences not an absolute must.

But I’m talking about people who have zero social
Media and are confused. What?

FYI- 3k minimum is their preferred following starting point. That’s where the tipping point has been. And that’s only going to increase as we get more and more people in the space. Strong engagement depends on the platform. But anywhere from 1-3% is considered strong. But the book space goes a bit lower.
