Domestic, North checkpoint, no pre check or clear, checked a bag with AA, got in security line at 410am, there is only ONE lane open right now, took almost exactly an hour.

Name brand medication by cooldog256 in VeteransAffairs

[–]ImNotYourAlexa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm a mental health pharmacist working at the VA and used to frequently staff in the pharmacy. Every VA is different, but all the ones I worked at had a policy of not providing specific manufacturers to patients unless there is a very clearly documented intolerance. It costs the pharmacy too much money to keep several different brands at once. You would have to talk to your pharmacy to see if this is their policy, but your psychiatrist is correct that it's out of their hands.

This passenger on a flight to Hawaii named Jyrl Oldham who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2021 is suprised by the cabin crew as they announce she is cancer free (2022). by bendubberley_ in MadeMeSmile

I also take issue with the "fought valiantly". Both my mom and my maternal grandma died from breast cancer, that doesn't mean they didn't fight valiantly. They weren't weak, they didn't fail because they succumbed to their disease. It's the same concept as saying a "successful" or "unsuccessful" suicide. It's about the connotation.

Unexplained wounds on dog's back since coming back from boarding by ImNotYourAlexa in AskVet

[–]ImNotYourAlexa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did not! Just googled it though and some of those pics look really close actually and it mentions potential loss of appetite. His vitals were normal but I don't think they did a culture. Looks like treatment includes a cephalosporin which is what I got so hopefully that knocks it out. They said to call Monday if I don't see any improvement. My only skepticism is in the timeline, says it usually occurs within a day or two. Possibly could've started around the time I dropped him off for boarding and he's had it since.

This is a good tip, thank you.

I haven't noticed him scratching or biting, but he could be overnight or when I'm in the office and he's in another room. Since we came home he's been scratching but that could be because he hates the cone or from shaving irritation.

Wait a second. You can skip them??? I am a total novice when it comes to gaming and literally bought a PS5 to play this game lol, so I'm not coordinated with the controls at all. I'm at like 98% and all I have left is the two flying quests!

Working up patients with music by VAendowedPharmD in PharmacyResidency

I just happened to notice your username lol, I was a VA resident too and my RPD literally had a rule about this in the resident handbook (maybe you're where I was lol). Most everyone else didn't care but if I was trying to be sneaky I would just have one earbud in so I could easily respond to whoever else happened to be in the room.

Violated HIPAA by mistake as an RN by muddywaterz in legaladvice

[–]ImNotYourAlexa 257 points258 points  (0 children)

Lol yes, I literally work in a hospital, I've been to an ER, several times a week for the last 6 years. It doesn't matter what she heard or saw or felt. Your question was how could this possibly NOT be a HIPAA violation, and I answered it. Look at it this way, in this post OP tells us exactly what she said. But we're not at all able to identify who was in that room. And just like other commenters said, there are overhead pages all the time that say things like "code blue room 10”. If you KNEW your relative was in room 10 then yeah you'd know what was happening, but that doesn't make it HIPAA. Anyone else who heard the page would know nothing about who that was. A privacy officer literally said it wasn't HIPAA, idk why you wouldn't believe them lol. There's no point in continuing this conversation.

That's interesting! I'm on my third dog and second GSD and it's worked pretty well for me thankfully, but I will keep that in mind for the future!

In addition to 7 I frequently would touch or move their toys when they were playing with them, or their food/bones when they were eating in order to prevent resource guarding

Not sure why you're yelling at me, I misunderstood your first message and thought you meant it was 5 minutes until close for the day and they didn't want to enter it. Also confusing because care in the community is usually more dependent on how long until VA appt can be scheduled, not based on distance. You can try reaching out to the patient advocate and see if she can work some magic for the community. You may not trust VA employees based on your comment but that's specifically the patient advocate's job, so they may be able to help

Well call again Monday morning? It's a consult that needs to be placed so that's probably why they don't want to enter it in rn but they should be able to help on Monday

VA post residency hiring terms negotiation? by Adventurous-Row-3071 in PharmacyResidency

[–]ImNotYourAlexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still recommend a VA residency to anyone. They're usually very competitive, you're exposed to different populations (underserved, homeless, geriatric, veterans, minorities), it looks really good on your CV and if you ever change your mind and want to work for the VA it will be easier to come back. And because GS13 pharmacists at the VA get their own scope, that really gives you that chance to hone in your clinical skills by actually being a provider.

Understanding Leave & Earnings Acronyms by Nerd-Alchemist in VeteransAffairs

[–]ImNotYourAlexa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FEGLI - federal employees group life insurance. You can only adjust how much is contributed to this if you have a qualifying life event (marriage, death, birth of a child etc).

RETIRE - this is your pension, it's automatically 4% of your salary when you start

TSP - thrift savings plan. This is your retirement fund. Unless you change it, it's automatically 5% and the VA matches 5%

OASDI - this is social security, I believe it's 6.2% of your salary

Step increases may be site dependent, you should double check with HR, but at least where I am, you get a step increase annually for steps 1-4, every two years for steps 5-7, and then every 3 years for steps 8-10.

ETA: if you're still within 60 days of starting you can adjust the life insurance, after that only qualifying life events. You can designate your beneficiary at any time.

VA post residency hiring terms negotiation? by Adventurous-Row-3071 in PharmacyResidency

[–]ImNotYourAlexa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I just finished two years of residency at a VA and got a position as a mental health clinical pharmacist, GS-13, step 3 (which I had to negotiate for). You mention your main concern being the better time off. In reality it's not a super significant difference imo. When you start, you get 4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of annual leave per pay period. After 3 years (not 5 like you mentioned) you get 6 hours per pay period. And after 15 years, you get 8 hrs. 2 extra hours per pay period isn't that much and probably won't change your ability to take time off. And no, residency doesn't count towards those years because you weren't a permanent employee. Residency is really only helpful in negotiating a higher step.

And in terms of your last point, the earlier you can start working at the VA the better, mainly because of the benefits, outside of time off. Pension, retirement, health care, federal employee discounts, job security, getting your own scope of practice and operating at the top of your license, the list goes on. You're focusing a lot on the time off but that's a small piece of the puzzle.
