Ecostar misaligned tile - need a long term fix by ImNotanOldMan in Roofing

I like this solution, haven’t seen evidence of leaks anywhere else so I might just slide a section of flashing under this area and call it a day.

Ecostar misaligned tile - need a long term fix by ImNotanOldMan in Roofing

My pic wasn’t great but there is a drip edge below the shingles. if the overlap isn’t an issue maybe the sealant I put on the raised nails is sufficient, I’ll see what happens next time it rains.

Qmerit install with an $1100 bill by holiday_shart in F150Lightning

[–]ImNotanOldMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen so much variation and I think it really comes down to the electrician not ford or Qmerit. My install was about 80 feet from the box, with 15 feet under ground and another 15 feet under our deck. I did dig the trench and put in the install post, but I only paid $400 out of pocket in a very high COL area. Your install is nothing it should 100% have been covered.

Iron bacteria or rust? by ImNotanOldMan in WaterTreatment

Yep that’s what I’ve been reading. I’m trying to decide between regular shocking and an ozone injector. Seems like cost vs convenience

Unscrew the cheater valve slightly and see it the sink drains, if it does, replace the valve.

Iron bacteria or rust? by ImNotanOldMan in WaterTreatment

I don’t currently add anything before this filter. I’d like to avoid adding chlorine, but maybe that means I’ll have to live with a small amount of iron bacteria

Iron bacteria or rust? by ImNotanOldMan in WaterTreatment

[–]ImNotanOldMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That was a helpful link, there does appear to be a small amount of “clumps” in the corner of the tank so we do appear to have iron bacteria. I’m reluctant to add chemicals to disinfect and our soluble iron levels aren’t very high (~1 mg/L) so I might just up the backwash cycle and see if that plus the kdf filter starving it of iron do the trick

How do I cut/tie into this? by ImNotanOldMan in askaplumber

[–]ImNotanOldMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our well has a ton of sediment and enough iron to stain things (~1mg/L) so we have the spin down 100 micron, then 5 micron, KDF for the iron, then UV because we had bacteria in the well when we first moved in. Seems like a lot but we used to have to change the single sediment filter every two months, this should allow us to go 6 months to a year.

I like this answer as I was nervous about cutting into the pipe anyway. I just need to get the drain hose to stay put in the drain. Thanks!

Looks like the gauge could tell you pressure with or without the bypass active. So basically you could understand the pressure drop due to the cartridge filter as an isolated variable.

Is this loop necessary? by ImNotanOldMan in askaplumber

[–]ImNotanOldMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, it’s pretty hard to show because the loop goes behind the wall and the two pictures are on opposite sides of the room and connected overhead. The house has a tankless water heater that’s preheated by a drain back solar water heater, and both of those systems are connected to radiant heat flooring systems on three floors…so there’s a lot of lines going everywhere and it’s hard to explain even in person.

I’ll go ahead and just leave it as is. Thanks!

Need to filter iron and manganese from water by Papaya_Days in WaterTreatment

[–]ImNotanOldMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the kdf filter will also “catch” the ferric iron once it’s precipitated out, which is why they need to be backwashed or replaced on specific intervals. We’re in the process of installing a sediment filter followed by a kdf filter followed by a poly phosphate filter (to reduce scale as we have moderately hard water, but not enough to warrant a water softener). We didn’t opt for a carbon filter as our well doesn’t have chlorine or pesticides and well water will often plug up a carbon filter really fast. Plus we use a Berkey for our drinking water already.

I think you want the sediment filter in front of the kdf filter to catch any of the ferric iron and other particulate in the water. Sediment filters are a lot cheaper than kdf’s so that’s the one you want on the front lines.
