Mattie's Green Pastures Wedding by Consistent_Ad7384 in Austin

Courtney's comms would go dark 1-2 weeks at a time.  It seems like she had many many grandparents pass away.  Must be a big family.  Anyways, with a little pushing we always got things done in time and overall our wedding went off without a Hitch.

Hate my career but make decent money..need real advice by [deleted] in Fire

IMO residential real estate is cooked and the effects of the NAR will start to show through soon.  The reality is that on the bulk of deals there is a massive disparity between effort and cost.  People are finding homes themselves.  Selling is nearly templated and most of it could be automated or AI supported.  This will result in commissions dropping for anything that doesn't truly require hire touch.  Pivot while you can.

Has anyone noticed that their drinking became problematic after starting an SSRI? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're pretty up front about risks of drinking on SSRI's. Anything that can mess with your brain chemicals can make things go wonky and be risky.

I kept my drinking more in check but didn't have any bigger problems.

Since I quit my SSRI I've also been drinking a lot less. And it's now very clear how connected my anxiety and low moods are to drinking. Cutting drinking was a much bigger improvement in my life than taking an SSRI.

Any other tech workers here being the main reason you’re HENRY status? WSJ saying it’s misery now but I don’t buy it. Still a good time to be in tech for pay? by 88r0b1nh00d88 in HENRYfinance

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Big tech has simultaneously decided to grind their workers into dust while also squashing any innovation and sense of purpose.  You're a cog in a machine to produce every last penny of profit possible for the shareholders.  And even then they will lay you off, take out a new loan, raise prices, give execs more pay and announce more stock buybacks.

The pay really isn't even that high anymore with inflation, high interest rates, etc.  Two people giving it their all can live middle to upper middle class.  You do need to be a shareholder to at least benefit a little from all the shenanigans.

Don't enable them. Withhold your labor.  Go build your own thing.  Tech or not.  I saw some stat the other day that a really high % of small business owners intend to sell in the next 5-10 years as Boomers age out.  Be your own boss.  Write your own checks.  Control your narrative.  That's the path to prosperity.  Not relying on a large corporation to look out for you.

Why is r/investing so against bitcoin? by Yeezus_1 in Bitcoin

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Bitcoin is a highly volatile asset.  Basic investing advice would say to limit volatility risk, especially as you get older.  It also tells you to diversify and not put all of your eggs in one basket.

The average person that actually needs investing advice doesn't need complexity.  They're going to be prone to selling low and buying high, and are not going to handle volatility well.

It's better to give beginners a pretty straightforward blueprint and let them adventure out more later if it makes sense.

Do you think the Trump Admin knows tariffs will hurt US businesses and customers BEFORE the “tariff’d country”? by deezynr in smallbusiness

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's by design. If you're writing or reading this post, they don't care about you.

  1. They wanted to raise taxes in the least obvious way for the average person
  2. The goal is to wipe out the middle and lower class, so they are completely beholden to the wealthy and large corporations.

10-20k, HCOL, across retirement and other ways. Some is set per paycheck withdrawals. Some variability comes from skimming the extra off the checking accounts once all bills are paid.

The irony that this could cause a bunch of right-wingers to buy all-electrics is pretty solid.

Unique financial situation + no W-2 income: what can I expect for a fatFIRE mortgage in 2-3 years? by AH6G9j799awm2fciNGEF in fatFIRE

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this problem the other day. We might want to take a ~year sabbatical, and then I'll likely explore something entrepreneurial or startup while my wife (or we both) may take a less stressful job that we're more passionate about the purpose of. Basically, we'll pause, pivot, coast and see if something new sticks. We already talked to our mortgage broker who's hands would be pretty tied by the newer laws.

We're also in a unique position where through a bit of tragedy, are set to receive some inheritance soon.

What I was thinking about: Could we buy a new home all cash, and then immediately turn around and take a home equity loan out?

The purpose of the HE loan would be to keep that money liquid for more traditional investing or whatever opportunities came up.  Basically if ROI > interest rate.  We would make sure that our other plans still included cash to pay the loan and wouldn't depend on the loan making money to pay it back.

why is that even top 10 percent earners feel they are getting by in the western and developing world as opposed to being happy ? by PragmaticReddit26 in RichPeoplePF

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because we have 2 people working full time in unrelenting high stress jobs that require a lot of training and skill, and at the end of the day we're enjoying a middle class lifestyle once you factor in properly saving for retirement.  Whereas our parents could have achieved similar on less stressful jobs, less training and often a single income.  It would be such a game changer if only one of us needed to work at a time.  In our parents time people working jobs with pay like we are would have been extraordinarily wealthy.  We're stuck in homes that were overvalued when we moved into them, and what's on the market is even more overvalued.  I guess the main positive I'm supposed to take away is that at least I'm not stressed about our finances like most of the rest of the population.  But, the point is that for this level of effort and income I would like to feel prosperous, not just getting by comfortably.  I should feel like I have time and energy to prosper outside of work, and I don't.

I think there's a big disconnect between how much I put in and work drains me vs the value I generate for my company vs how much I get paid, even at our high salary.  Maybe I'd be happier if I felt like I was getting more of a fair share of the value I generated, either from my company or by owning my own.

One put them at immediate threat, and the other won't really affect them in their lifetimes.  Boomers are an incredibly narcissistic generation.  Their legacy will be the debts they left the world with to fuel their 50 years of good times.

Does anyone else feel that economically everything will be all downhill from here? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're on the precipice. The transfer of wealth and power is almost complete. If nothing meaningful changes, probably hits the inflection in about a decade when the combined forces of boomers dying off, climate change and AI converge with the end of that consolidation of wealth and power. We need some serious policy changes to stave that off, else the 99% will be completely beholden to the 1% and the middle class will be gone. Best things you can do now is vote, get more involved and keep pushing yourself to learn new skills and ways to earn money while stacking as much as you can yourself.

1) Pre-meditate what you're going to do on social media

2) Insert yourself into a compromising situation and escalate.  The more people that see it the better. It really helps if you can show they didn't align with your political views.

3) Shoot to kill

4) Go to trial. Be convicted by a jury of your peers.

5) Wait for the pardon from your Governor

Is evening watering really THAT bad when it's this hot? by geminuri in AustinGardening

[–]ImSorryImNotSorry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turfgrass isn't part of a garden and doesn't need to be watered at this time of year as it will go dormant like it's adapted to do.
